Version 1 of 2020 ADELAIDE UNIVERSITY LAW STUDENTS SOCIETY GRIEVANCE POLICY Making a Complaint The Adelaide University Law Students’ Society (AULSS) (“the SOCIETY”) seeks to provide a straightforward and confidential procedure to resolving any DISPUTES or COMPLAINTS on the basis of natural justice and the objects of the AULSS. A committee member of the SOICETY may report a COMPLAINT about another committee member of the SOCIETY or other organisation that is bound by this POLICY if they have experienced any form of bullying, harassment, discrimination, or anything else of such nature. A COMPLAINT may be brought forward to the President and the Vice President, either formally or informally. The President has the discretion to redirect the COMPLAINT if it falls outside the scope of this POLICY and should be handled with a different authority that would be more appropriate. The President and Vice President may contact the person which the COMPLAINT has been made against, to notify them of this COMPLAINT. All COMPLAINTS are to be handled confidentially, punctually and seriously. If the COMPLAINT is against the President or the Vice President, the complaint may be made to any other member of the Executive. Improper Complaints and Victimisation The AULSS seeks to ensure this procedure has integrity and does not victimise the committee member making the COMPLAINT. All members of the SOCIETY should feel safe in raising a COMPLAINT. If a committee member intentionally makes an untruthful COMPLAINT, the matter may be brought to the Executive to decide on an action appropriate in the circumstance. Consequential Measures Once a COMPLAINT has been raised, the President will refer it to the Executive to collectively determine and implement any necessary actions. The Executive must ensure all measures: a. Are fair, reasonable and objective b. Take into account all parties involved c. Take into account the evidence and seriousness of the breach d. Take into account Division 8.2 of the AULSS Constitution

It is vital this year that we are completely thorough with this eligibility check to ensure it is an equitable process for all students. o I note that if less students are pre-registered than the amount who can attend the event, I will open up pre- registration to a wider group of Adelaide University students. For example, those who are not currently studying in the degree but are returning to study or previously have taken law subjects. o I apprecia e e er one inp o er he la fe commi ee meetings in helping me agree on the fairest approach being to let currently enrolled law students have priority in attending this ear event given the 50% reduced capacity. EXECUTIVE REPORTS COMMITTEE MEETING 9 compulsory unless a valid reason is presented. Ticketing Roster on the night of Law Ball o As with previous years, our Activities portfolio is always so appreciative of the help of fellow committee members assisting with ticketing and wrist-banding on the night. o Please refer to the roster on the AULSS Facebook page carefully to see when you are on. o The AULSS policy for the Law Ball roster is that the allocation of time = students in their later years ticket earlier in the night, committee members in an earlier year of their degree ticket later in the night, so on and so forth. o The Activities representatives also do ticketing in the earliest time slot of the night as they arrive early at the event to assist. o It can be fun (dare I say competitive) seeing who gets the most check-ins on their phone when ticketing, prize to follo Key ticketing/wrist banding need to know information: o Please adhere to the roster as otherwise the downstairs area will be really congested which is a big issue for COVID-19 o Please make sure you are checked in and wrist banded yourself! o Please arrive to o r shift a fe min tes earl so it s a q ick and easy change over o If you are ticketing, you need to be logged into the Eventbrite Organiser App. Please download this App on your phone. The login details are available from your relevant portfolio Director. Committee Pre-Drinks o You are all invited to attend our exclusive committee pre drinks at Adelaide Oval from 7pm on the night for 30 minutes before we open the event to attendees. o During this time, you have access to the open bar (wooo) and I look forward to seeing you all there.

Kain Lawyers Seminar #2 Tuesday Week 11 (20th October, 12.30 pm 2.00 pm, Moot Court) Topic TBC likely M&A oriented Organised by Charlton This is a sponsored even with one of our major sponsors – a strong turnout is essential. 3. ACTIVITIES OF Sponsored Events PORTFOLIO It was disappointing to see that so few members of the committee showed up to the Kain lawyers Seminar as this was a sponsored event and urged committee attendance. While I appreciate that week 8 is a very busy time of the semester, attendance is vital to the success of pon ored e en and he AULSS f re pon or hip. Thank you to everyone from the committee who did attend.
EXECUTIVE REPORTS COMMITTEE MEETING 9 Moving forward: o There are 4 sponsored events coming up in the remaining weeks of this semester. They are: Lipman Karas Seminar Wednesday Week 10 5.30-7.00pm GDLP Networking Night sponsored by the College of Law Wednesday Week 10 5.30-7.00pm Open Moot Final sponsored by Herbert Smith Freehills week 9 Tuesday Kain Lawyers Seminar #2 Tuesday Week 11 12.30 2.00pm o Together these four events are generating more than $4,100 revenue for the Society. This revenue funds the events and activities of every portfolio. o Without strong student turnout, firms will not continue to sponsor events in future years. This is especially relevant given the impending recession and the fact that firms will have less money to spend next year. This will decrease our revenue and our ability to provide student services. o Therefore, the expectation is that every member of the committee attends these four sponsored events. o I expect to see all of you at all four of these events. If you are unable to attend for some reason, please let me know via email or FB. 4. DISCUSSION N/A POINTS 5. MOTIONS N/A 6. ACTION ITEMS N/A 7. ANY OTHER N/A BUSINESS N/A 8. APPENDIX
