5 | ANONA MAGAZINE The Season of Lent We live in a world full of noise and distraction. Whether it’s the constant distraction of the chiming of our phones, or the noise of traffic in our daily commute, or the incessant background music in every grocery store and shop we visit, we oftentimes become deaf to the many sounds and sights we encounter in our daily lives. This Lenten season Anona invites you to listen. To take the time to step away from the distractions that fight for your attention, and to begin the season of Lent by listening to the Holy Spirit at work in your heart and in your life. We invite you to experience THE LABYRINTH. A place where you can center yourself and reflect on your own spiritual journey while you walk the path of the Twelve Fold Labryrinth. A place to focus your thoughts and prayers on the journey that you have been on, and the journey yet to travel. To learn more about this experience, please visit anona.com. Then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my Son, my Chosen, listen to him!” Luke 9:35 Ash Wednesday on March 2, 2022, marks the first day of Lent, the beginning of a period of reflection and penance. In the Bible, sprinkling oneself with ashes was traditionally a sign of one’s sorrow for having committed sins. In the Christian tradition, Ash Wednesday also marked the beginning of preparation for the understanding of the death and resurrection of Christ. Join us for our Ash Wednesday service on March 2 in the Traditional Sanctuary at 7 pm. Maundy Thursday, April 14, 2022, offers a worship service in our Anona Traditional Sanctuary where we invite you to a 7pm service. Maundy Thursday is an alternate name for Holy Thursday, the first of the three days of solemn remembrance of the events leading up to and immediately following the crucifixion of Jesus. The English word “Maundy” comes from the Latin mandatum, which means “commandment.” Throughout the service you will enjoy the musical talents from our Anona choirs and organist. Holy week will culminate with Easter Sunday services. Join us Sunday morning, April 17 for our worship services online or in person for Traditional Worship at 8:15 and 11:10 or Contemporary Worship at 9:30. Celebrate Jesus’ victory over death for HE IS RISEN!!

8 | ANONA MAGAZINE Anona Little Kids Jen Bryant | nursery@anona.com | anona.com/infantandpreschool CHECK OUT WHAT’S COMING THIS SPRING! FEBRUARY BOTTOM LINE: JESUS LOVES EVERYONE. “Do everything in love.” 1 Corinthians 16:14, NIV Did you know there are over 100 million love songs? Why so much interest in love? Well, it could be because God is love. And, God made every person in His image. We were literally made by love, to love and to be loved! That is why Jesus loves everyone, and why He taught us how we can love everyone, too. Jesus gave us so many examples of loving everyone while He was on earth, and we get to share them with our preschoolers this month. Jesus loves everyone, and we can love everyone like Jesus—that is what we want preschoolers to know. And, there’s no better time in our world for children to hear this powerful truth. So, grab a party hat and a handful of confetti and let’s get the party started! MARCH BOTTOM LINE: EVERYONE CAN BE FRIENDS WITH JESUS. “‘Come and follow me,’ Jesus said.” Matthew 4:19, NIrV While Jesus was on earth, He lived a life that very clearly said, “Everyone can be friends with Me!” While not everyone took Him up on His invitation, those that did were changed forever in the best way. That is why we are teaching preschoolers that no matter what kind of shoes we wear, everyone can be friends with Jesus. We can be friends with Jesus no how young or old. We can be friends with Jesus wherever we live and whatever language we speak. We can be friends with Jesus no matter how much money and education we have. There are no special requirements to be friends with Jesus. It’s a come as you are kind of friendship that lasts forever. Everyone can put on their shoes and follow Jesus because everyone can be friends with Jesus. We love sharing God’s love and friendship with our Anona Little kids. OH WHAT SMILES!

11 | ANONA MAGAZINE Young Adult Group youngadult@anona.com | anona.com/youngadults In November, Anona Young Adults represented the church at the Hope Villages of America Empty Bowls event. After hearing about the number of people in Pinellas County who face food insecurity, including many of their peers at St. Petersburg College, they were moved to participate in the Hope Villages Reverse Advent challenge. The group included donated food to their Christmas potluck dinner sign up and helped feed a family in need during the holidays. At Empty Bowls with Hope Villages President and CEO Kirk Ray Smith Progressive Dinner with host Bette-Ra Ivy In a fierce competition at their Friendsgiving event, the women beat the men in the number of bags filled for Pack ‘A Sack! Anona Young Adults packed 200 bags of food for Ridgecrest Elementary students to take home on the weekend! Anona Young Adults loved playing Santa’s Elves this Christmas! They sorted and wrapped gifts donated through the Anona Giving Tree and delivered donated gifts for families in need to PEMHS. Bible Study! We all know the feeling. We take a leap, only to land flat on our face. Just when our plan appears to be perfect, it falls apart. Life’s failures and disappointments can make it difficult to move forward. How do we pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off? Our winter Bible study examines the life of Jeremiah, whose failed pursuits are described in more detail and depth than with any other prophet. Even though God set him apart to speak to the nation of Israel, Jeremiah’s attempts to fulfill his calling were met with ridicule, punishment, and suffering. But through it all, God never left his side. The story of “the weeping prophet” has much to teach us about trusting God during life’s most trying times. Anona Young Adults meets for small group discussion and connection on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month at 7:30pm. Online and in-person options are available. Anona Young Adults is a ministry of the church serving those between the ages of 18 to 24 years of age who are currently in college (local or away), career, or military. We strive to support these individuals in this stage of their lives through community, Bible study, and service while navigating new challenges and growing in their relationship with God. If you or someone you know would like more information or would like to join in on the fun, follow us on Instagram (@ anonayoungadults), visit http://www.anona.com/youngadults or contact Casey@ anona.com. Thank you for your support!

The springtime one of my favorite seasons here in Anona Youth. Our students, 7th grade and older, have the opportunity to partake in one of the most important experiences in our faith journey—Confirmation! Confirmation is a time where our students will learn about our story as Christians and get the opportunity to make that story their own. Beach Night is one of our most ceremonial and special moments in in the Confirmation Journey. Everyone (whole church, youth group, families, students) is invited to the beach on Friday, April 8th as we celebrate our students’ Confirmation journey. Confirmands will be invited to take the next step in their faith journey- whether that is confirming their faith, getting baptized, remembering their baptism, or simply finding their Small Group Leader to walk and talk together. Join us on Sunday April 10th as we celebrate our Confirmation Class at all of the Sunday morning worship services. Our Confirmands and leaders will be presented to the congregation to be congratulated, prayed over, and welcomed into the church as adults for the first time. SUMMER TRIPS ARE BACK! Students love adventures with their friends, and we love helping them grow in their faith at the same time! That’s why we LOVE summer trips. Each Evangelist presents a distinct picture of the death of Jesus. Each portrays different individuals and groups of people at the cross, each offers different images and dialogues, and so from each, we learn how those meanings and messages cross the centuries to any who would come to the cross today.
