ABOUT LAVA WEST
Based in Thousand Oaks, LAVA West Volleyball Club for Girls has grown to become the dominant and undisputed premier club of the
Conejo Valley — and Ventura County — since its inception in 2011, with a vast array of successes both regionally and nationally that
widely outdistance all area competitors. The medals listed above highlight just some of our national successes.
For the 2021-2022 club season, LAVA West has fielded twenty-two girls travel teams annually across multiple age divisions.
Our athletes come from many different communities: the Conejo Valley, the San Fernando Valley, Santa Barbara to Simi Valley,
Moorpark to Malibu, Calabasas to Santa Clarita, Woodland Hills to West Los Angeles, and all areas of greater Ventura County, even Ojai.
The Club Director for LAVA West is highly respected long-time girls club coach Trevor Julian.

SUMMER DETAILS
Lava West is pleased to offer an exciting array of camps, clinics, workshops, and youth classes for summer of 2022.
Our summer programs are open to female athletes in elementary school, middle school, or high school. Click here for more info.
Summer offerings are open to any and all athletes, including athletes who played for other clubs last season.
Director Trevor Julian oversees many of the camps and workshops himself, along with the exceptional Lava West coaching staff.

ATHLETIC SOCIETY & LOCATIONS
Lava West is based in Thousand Oaks. We utilize a handful of facilities, all of which are a short distance from the 101/23 freeway
interchange. Our primary facility is the Athletic Society, a high-end membership-based fitness facility with two spacious hardwood floor
volleyball courts (the facility also has a pool, recovery center, top-tier workout space, and much more). During the club season, athletes
on LAVA West travel teams have included membership and can utilize the facilities. Athletic Society is located at 2400 Willow Lane,
Thousand Oaks. For Summer 2022, we will also utilize our secondary gym at Colina Middle School (1500 East Hillcrest Dr, Thou Oaks).
WHAT AGE GROUP TO SIGN UP FOR & WHAT DOES “RISING” MEAN
We classify programs in one of two ways: by grade or age division. “Rising” means the grade of the athlete for the upcoming school year,
so when you see school grade in this program guide, it should be the Rising grade – in other words, the grade they are going into next
school year (2022-2023), not their current one. When age division is used, please refer to the following guidelines:
18's is 12th graders (born after July 01, 2003 eligible) 14's is 8th graders (born after July 01, 2008 eligible)
17's is 11th graders (born after July 01, 2005 eligible) 13's is 7th graders (born after July 01, 2009 eligible)
16's is 10th graders (born after July 01, 2006 eligible) 12's is 6th graders (born after July 01, 2010 eligible)
15's is 9th graders (born after July 01, 2007 eligible) 11's is 4th/5th graders (born after July 01, 2011 eligible)
Health Protocols @ Lava West … Lava West employs health protocols that have proven immensely successful during the
pandemic. We are committed to hosting programs that are as effective competitively for our athletes as they are safe for our

YOUTH ‘LITE’ PROGRAM
Age Range: Rising 3rd-5th Grade Girls
Skill Level: Beginner, Intermediate & Advanced Players
Locations: Los Cerritos (May/June) & Athletic Society (July/Aug)
Our hugely popular Youth Lite Program at Lava West is recognized as an exemplary
development space for elementary school athletes, an important first step for girls into
the sport of volleyball mixing quality skills work with fun competitive games.
The skills work focus is on correct fundamentals and movement patterns with lots of quality repetition,
and emphasis on passing, setting, hitting, and overall ball control. The competitive game focus is on
over-the-net game-like play with basic volleyball concepts, court awareness, and having fun!
We have three sessions upcoming for Summer 2022: our shortened May/June (May 11-June 14)
session, seven weeks of practice on Tuesdays at Los Cerritos Middle School, and our separate July
(July 05-July 28) and August (Aug 02-Sept 01) sessions, which run on two courts on Tuesdays and
Thursdays, 4:30p-5:45p, at 2400 Willow Lane, Thousand Oaks (Athletic Society). Athletic Society is
the primary headquarter location of Lava West. More details below:

We offer a series of multi-day indoor volleyball camps for girls in the rising 3rd-5th grades. Each camp
has its own specific set of dates and its own unique vibe. Each camper will receive a camp shirt, as
well as a camp player skills packet.
Campers are often times broken into mini-groups and the registration form allows you to tell us if
your child has any friends she knows that are coming with her (so we can group friends together if
possible), but many campers do not know anyone ahead of time and make awesome new friends!
Our camps have two potential locations: our primary site for camps at Colina Middle School (CMS,
1500 East Hillcrest Dr, Thousand Oaks) and our backup camp site at Athletic Society (AS, 2400 Willow
Lane, Thousand Oaks – Athletic Society is also the headquarter location of Lava West for team
practices and workshops, etc). Further details are listed below:

THE ‘SIXTH GRADE SERIES’
Age Range: Rising 6th Grade Girls Only
Skill Level: Beginner, Intermediate & Advanced Players
Locations: Athletic Society (July & August)
The Sixth Grade Series at Lava West, reserved for rising 6th graders only, is a popular
training program for rising sixth grade girls (incoming middle schoolers) who want to
prepare their skills for their first middle school volleyball season in the fall, prepare their
skills for the upcoming club volleyball season starting with tryouts in October, or simply
because they have a passion for the sport; or better yet all three!
We focus on correct fundamentals and movement patterns with lots of quality
repetition (emphasis on passing, setting, hitting, serving, defense, and overall ball
control), while mixing in competitive play with over-the-net style games to teach and
foster basic volleyball concepts, court awareness, and having fun!
We feature two separate Sixth Grade Series sessions for Summer 2022: July (July 05-
July 28) and August (Aug 02-Aug 25). Both run on two courts, Tuesdays and Thursdays,
6:00p-7:15p, at 2400 Willow Lane, Thousand Oaks (Athletic Society), as follow:
• July Tues/Thurs @ AS 6:00p-7:15p July 05-July 28 (8 practices) $124

JUNIORS PROGRAM
Age Range: Rising 7th-8th Grade Girls Skill Level: Beginner and Intermediate Players
The Juniors is our popular training program for beginner/intermediate middle school athletes. It runs year-round in
seasonal sessions with a Summer Session that mixes skills work with fun competitive games. Juniors athletes look to
build skills to prepare for club volleyball or middle school volleyball team tryouts in the fall, or out of simple love of
volleyball, or most often all three! The Juniors Program runs once per week on Wednesdays, 515p-630p at Colina
Middle School, 1500 East Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks. The Summer Session is July 6-Sept 7 (10 practices, $148).
SUNDAY WORKSHOPS (JULY & AUGUST)
Age Range: Rising 7th Grade Girls Only Skill Level: Intermediate & Advanced Players
Sunday Workshops are skills clinics for intermediate and advanced players. We focus on one primary specific skill
each workshop for technical training, touching on others and mixing in some competitive play in each 75-minute
stand-alone session. We offer four workshops in July (1:30p-2:45p) and four workshops in August (4:30p-5:45p),
all on Sundays at Athletic Society (2400 Willow Lane, Thousand Oaks). More details below:
*We do not recommend these workshops for beginners. The Juniors Program and Camps are recommended.

school girls volleyball season, which also begins in late July. All programs on this page are Pre-Tryout Clinics, Pre-Tryout Showcases, or

The June Showcase Clinics are stand-alone Pre-Tryout Clinics held in June, coached by Lava West Director Trevor Julian and/or senior
Lava West coaches. It is reserved for non-Lava intermediate to advanced athletes who are interested in playing for Lava West this next
coming club season (2022-2023). There are more Pre-Tryout Clinics scheduled for July, in advance of 15’s-18’s Club Tryouts on July 23.
All June Showcases are held at Athletic Society (AS, 2400 Willow Lane, Thousand Oaks). Come see what Lava West is all about!

JULY PRE-TRYOUT CLINICS (PTC’s)
Age Range: 9th-12th Grade Girls Skill Level: Intermediate and Advanced Players
Pre-Tryout Clinics are reserved for rising high school athletes (9th-12th graders) who are genuinely interested in
playing club volleyball for Lava West the following club season. We kindly request only those athletes who want
to play club participate in these clinics.
Attending athletes can work to refine their techniques, showcase their skills, meet coaches, and come see what
Lava West is all about in advance of Club Tryouts on Sat July 23, as well as to prepare for the coming girls high
school volleyball season (starts mid-to-late July, depending on the school).
We strongly encourage athletes with significant interest in playing club, or if you are looking for more non-travel
