PERFORMANCE RACING CALENDAR OVERVIEW Triathlon Australia (TA) in conjunction with local event organisers provide the annual performance racing calendar. ATHLETE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA To be eligible to compete across the 2019/20 Performance Races, athletes must meet the following guidelines: 1. MEMBERSHIP – Be a current (2019/2020) financial member in any of the following memberships categories and be in good standing with TA and the respective State Organisation (STTA); a. Youth Draft Legal: 13-14yrs (as of the 31 December 2019) or; b. Junior Draft Legal: 15-18yrs (as of the 31 December 2019) or; c. Professional Development U23 Licence: 15-22yrs (as of the 31 December 2019) or Professional Licence. d. Adult Membership (for paratriathletes) 2. RACE CATEGORY AGE – Must be aged as of 31st December 2020 a. Youth: 14 & 15yrs born in the years 2005 or 2006; b. Junior: 16 – 19yrs born in the years 2004 – 2001;** c. U23: 18 - 23yrs born in the years 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 or 2002;* d. ELITE: born in or before 2002* * The U23 and Elite categories are combined when racing. U23 athletes will be eligible for placings in both the U23 and elite category. Athletes born in 2003 and 2004 are eligible to race in sprint distance races with the appropriate membership. ** Whilst racing together, there will be recognition of both Junior (16-19 yrs) and Junior B (16-17yrs) within this category. Junior B athletes will be eligible for placings in both the Junior B and Junior category. 3. PHYSICAL & SKILL REQUIREMENTS GUIDE – the recommendations for athletes wishing to compete in the Youth and Junior categories are: a. PHYSICAL FITNESS/TIMES - The guideline standards for Youth & Junior athletes to compete are set below. Please note this is a GUIDE to ensure athletes are prepared to compete do not have a negative experience by being lapped out and withdrawn from the race. For further information to determine if an athlete is ready for national level of competition please refer to your respective state/territory talent pathway managers. 2019-2020 Performance Racing Calendar Information 4

BIKE SKILL REQUIREMENTS - ALL athletes must be Draft Legally Endorsed. For new athletes (those that have not been draft legally endorsed), please refer to the 2019-2020 Bike Skills Endorsement Information and Procedure HERE > . 4. ATHLETE PROFILING Athletes competing in the Youth, Junior & U23 categories across the National Series Races will be required to submit the following data; - 400m swim (50m pool – if possible) - 1500m run (tarten track) This data will be requested when nominating for each race in the series. All times must be witnessed by an Accredited Triathlon Coach or completed at an officially timed event (i.e. Athletics and swimming meets with electronic timing) Please note, this data is to be collected for the purposes of internal monitoring and analysis. SERIES POINT SCORE As in previous years, a series point score will determine the 2019-2020 Australian Youth I Junior I U23 Triathlon Series Point Score Champions. There are 4 categories in the series: 1. Youth (14 & 15yrs); 2. Junior B (16-17yrs); 3. Junior (16–19yrs) *; 4. U23 (18-23yrs) **. *Junior B athletes are eligible for both Junior and Junior B series points and prizes. ** Juniors 18-19 are eligible for both Junior and U23 series points and prizes. 2019-2020 Performance Racing Calendar Information 5
Australian Youth Triathlon Series Points Youth athletes best two results/scores from three races will count towards the overall point score final total. In the event of a tie the highest placed athlete at the Australian Youth Triathlon Championships (Devonport TAS) will be determine the overall AYTS winners. NB – Race 3: Australian Youth Triathlon Championships (Devonport TAS) is worth double points. Australian Junior B Triathlon Series Points Junior (16-17yrs) athletes best three results/scores from four races will count towards the overall point score final total. In the event of a tie the highest placed athlete at the National Junior Triathlon Championships (Devonport TAS) will be determine the overall AJTS winners. NB – Race 3: Australian National Championships (Devonport TAS) is worth double points. Junior Series Athlete Bursary Junior male and female athletes that place 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the AJTS series will be awarded the Junior Series Athlete Bursary. The bursary was created to recognise the achievements of athletes across the AJTS and to offer further competitions opportunities overseas. The above funds will directly contribute to such opportunities. The bursary awards are as follows: 1st Place: $1500 2nd Place: $750 3rd Place: $500 2019-2020 Performance Racing Calendar Information 7
UNIFORMS AND COMPETITION RULES All athletes competing across the 2019-2020 Performance Racing season must wear a triathlon race suit that meets the ITU uniform guidelines, specifications include surname placement, rear zip and logo size(s). The ITU Uniform Guidelines can be found on the ITU website here: www.triathlon.org/about/downloads/category/uniform_rules If an athlete does not have an ITU compliant race suit, they may compete in a “cleanskin” race suit with no sponsors or markings. Competition rules shall be as per ITU & Triathlon Australia rules for Draft Legal events. This includes: bicycle, wheels (UCI approved), handle bar and wetsuit restrictions. WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SELECTION POLICIES The 2020 ITU World Triathlon Championships Edmonton selection policies for the Elite, Paratriathlon, U23 and Junior Teams are still to be finalised. Once finalised, they will be distributed to all Athletes and coaches who should ensure they read and understand the full policies, particularly in regard to the automatic nomination eligibility.
