2022 Corn Palace Festival Open Class Exhibit Book Here is an opportunity to showcase your creativity at this year’s Corn Palace Festival. You can bake a cake, color or create a picture, show off your homegrown produce, design a flower arrangement or make one of the many other options. Ages 3 & over are eligible to compete in the Corn Palace Festival Open Class Exhibits. (Age as of August 25, 2022). Categories include: Art, Crafts & Photography, Foods, Horticulture/Agriculture, Floriculture, and Culinary. Each exhibit must be marked with an entry tag containing the exhibitor’s name, age, category, class, division, and a brief description of the exhibit. There is a maximum of one entry per person per class. Exhibits must be delivered to the Corn Palace on Wednesday, August 25th, 2022 by 5 p.m. The judging will begin at that time. All projects will be displayed by 2 p.m. the following day in the City Hall Armory above City Hall. All exhibits must be picked up from the Armory on Sunday, August 28th, 2022 between the hours of 1 -5 p.m. or will be discarded. When submitting perishable items, all produce becomes Corn Palace property. We are not responsible for the exhibits. All beginner exhibits will be given a ribbon. A grand champion, first and second place ribbon will be awarded in all other divisions. A grand champion will be announced in each division of every class and will receive a ribbon along with a Corn Palace Festival prize (carnival ride pass or concert ticket).
Exhibits will be judged on: Visual appearance, Originality, Workmanship/Craftsmanship Class Numbering System: Example: Arts & Crafts 001 (B) The word(s) is the Category - Arts & Crafts The 3 digits are the Class - 001 The letter in parenthesis is the Division -(B) Beginning level, ages 3-12 (J) Junior level, ages 13-18 (S) Senior level, ages 19 and over (Age as of Wednesday, August 24th, 2022) Art, Crafts & Photography Coloring Contest 001 (B) Age 3-12 – unicorn picture 001 (J) Age 13-18 – cute pig picture 001 (S) Age 19+- dragon picture Description – Color the selected festival picture. The coloring sheet for each category is on www.cornpalace.com or can be picked up at the Corn Palace Box Office. Seed Art 002 (B) 002 (J) 002 (S) Description – All design art items made from seeds of choice, seed mosaics, Pumpkin and/or Goard Art 003 (B) 003 (J) 003 (S) Description – Pumpkins or Goards can be painted or carved. All design art items made from seeds of choice, seed mosaics, Design Art 004 (B) 005 (J) 006 (S) Description – All design art items need to include an agriculture theme. Design art items may include any form of painting, drawing, chalk, graphic art, clay, and other forms.
Corn Craft 007 (B) 007 (J) 007 (S) Description – Corn Crafts must include some part of corn such as: kernels, cob, husk, stalk, and/or silk. Photography 008 (B) 008 (J) 008 (S) Description - Photos can be standard or digital, black & white or color. The photo subjects should be in relation to corn or agriculture. Photos need to be displayed on mounting board or matte board. The boards may not exceed 18”x 24”. The exhibit may contain one picture or a collage of pictures. Rubber cement, photo tape (non- double stick regular tape), adhesive spray, photo sticker squares or other acceptable photo methods may be used to attach the photos to the boards. Photos must be taken within one year of the year exhibited. Crochet/Knitting 009 (B) 009 (J) 009 (S) Description- Create your own original design. Accessories, household items such as, potholders, hangers, baskets, magnets, rugs, etc. Playdough Craft 010 (B) 010 (J) 010 (S) Description- Create your own palace! Foods Bread 201 (B) 201 (J) 201 (S) Description – Bread items are to be exhibited on a paper plate in a sealed plastic bag (either a zipper-close bag or a plastic bag closed with a twist fastener). Please do not use plastic wrap to cover food items.
Jams & Jellies – any recipe 202 (B) 202 (J) 202 (S) Description – Jams or Jellies should be contained in one standard jar, pint or half- pint, using a standard sealed lid. Popcorn – any flavor 203 (B) 203 (J) 203 (S) Description – Popcorn needs to be popped and flavored to your liking. Popcorn must be brought in a quart sized sealed bag. Crock Pot Crazy- Any Recipe 204 (B) 204 (J) 204 (S) Description – Get creative with your Crock Pots. Exhibitor’s choice of any dish. Horticulture/Agriculture All exhibits must be grown in 2020. All root crops must be free of soil. All produce must be exhibited on a paper plate. Sweet Corn 301 (B) 301 (J) 301 (S) Description – Plate of three matching ears of sweet corn. Produce – Green Beans 302 (B) 302 (J) 302 (S) Description – Plate of 3 matching. Produce – Carrots 303 (B) 303 (J) 303 (S) Description - Plate of 3 matching.
Produce – Cucumbers 304 (B) 304 (J) 304 (S) Description - Plate of 3 matching. Produce – Pumpkins 305 (B) 306 (J) 307 (S) Description - Plate of 3 matching. Culinary Cakes, One Layer, Exhibitors Choice 401 (B) 401 (J) 401 (S) Description – Cakes must be one layer and may be any flavor. Cakes should be exhibited in a disposable pan. Cupcakes, Exhibitors Choice 402 (B) 402 (J) 402 (S) Description- Six (6) cupcakes (decorated) are to be exhibited on a paper plate. Decorated Novelty Cake – Animal, Figure, etc. 403 (B) 403 (J) 403 (S) Description – Have fun with this one! Cakes of any shapes or styles are encouraged. Cakes should be exhibited in a disposable pan or board. Cookies, Exhibitors Choice 404 (B) 404 (J) 404 (S) Description –Six (6) cookies are to be exhibited on a paper plate in a sealed plastic bag (either a zipper-close bag or a plastic bag closed with a twist fastener). Please do not use plastic wrap to
cover food items. Cookies, Chocolate Chip 405 (B) 405 (J) 405 (S) Description –Six (6) chocolate chip cookies are to be exhibited on a paper plate in a sealed plastic bag (either a zipper-close bag or a plastic bag closed with a twist fastener). Please do not use plastic wrap to cover food items. Pies 406 (B) 406 (J) 406 (S) Description- Bake any type of pie in a disposable pan or board. They must have a cover on them. Please do not use plastic wrap to cover food items. Corn Palace Festival Open Class Exhibit Entry Tags Each exhibit must be marked with an entry tag containing the exhibitor’s name, age, category, class, division, and a brief description of the exhibit.
