Greetings and welcome to Watermark University! It is a new year with new opportunities to grow, learn and participate. Regardless of what is going on in the world, we have choices as to how to react. We are challenged to continue to expand ourselves on this life journey. The foundation of Watermark University (WU) is to provide meaningful opportunities to learn, teach and grow, resulting in a life of overall well-being. Research shows that learning and keeping the mind active and sharp supports a healthy life regardless of your age. Our state of mind can get us through anything life throws our way. At Watermark Retirement Communities® we are committed to encouraging our residents and associates to lead balanced lives, full of meaning and purpose, grounded in self-awareness and infused with curiosity. COURSES FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION Every Monday & Virtual Mindful Meditation Debra Goeppele R.N. Friday ~ 3pm Meditation is proven to relax and calm the mind. We all have busy minds and can struggle with fear and anxiety from time to time. Meditation is proven to relax the mind and body so that we are able to be less reactive, process information better and experience a more positive connection with the world around us. Nurse Debbie will guide you through the art of mindful meditation. No experience required! Music Appreciation Eric Lane Barnes 2nd & 4th Mondays Virtual Learn about different genres and artists from the dynamic Eric Lane Barnes. This in depth 1.5 hour class explores musical artists and their place in history. You will hear music samples, learn about their personal and professional lives and about the environment in which they produced memorable music. Behind the Scenes: Part 1 Tuesday, January Suzanne Parcells Virtual The Kitchen 12~3pm In this behind the scenes tour, Director of Dining Services, Suzanne Parcells will give a behind the scenes, tour of the kitchen. You will find out what it takes to feed over 150 residents and staff daily. Meet some staff you've never met and see this well-oiled machine in action. There will be a Q&A opportunity at the end of the tour. Program is 45 minutes long. Behind the Scenes: Part 2 Tuesday, January Boris Babulkov Virtual Maintenance 26~3pm Check out the new elevator and the behind the scenes areas that support the building's operations on a daily basis. Boris, or "Mr. Fix Everything," will be your guide to a day in the life of maintenance. There will be a Q&A opportunity at the end of the tour. Program is 45 minutes long. Bible Study Denise Hance Every Wednesday ~ 2pm Virtual Go a little deeper into the New Testament with licensed Minister Denise. Learn in a supportive group environment, share opinions and apply what you learn to your daily life. This welcoming group is open to all whether you are religious or not. There are no wrong questions except the one you don't ask.
COURSES FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION Powerful Stories Pamela Love Every Thursday ~ 1pm Virtual So many great stories we have all lived: funny, sad, tragic and inspirational. With guidance from various expert writers, Pamela will provide suggestions for how to choose, structure and express your point of view as you write your memoirs, or short stories. No one knows your life like you do! This year was full of survival techniques and finding joy in the little things. It is time to tell your side of the story! Super Bowl Preview & Friday, January 29th Bob Wright Virtual Predictions 1:30pm If you haven't seen Bob's Seahawk Christmas tree then you can't truly appreciate his love of the team or the game! Get your annual dose of Super Bowl predictions and find out who Bob favors for the big win this year. His knowledge will both impress and astound you!
Faculty Biographies NAME OF INSTRUCTOR CLASS NAME Boris Babulkov Behind the Scenes: Maintenance Boris "Mr. Fix Everything" has practically grown up here at Pacific Regent. Every employer's dream, Boris is dedicated, smart, talented and if he can't fix it, he knows who can! Boris greets each day with a fresh attitude and a smile and a desire to help. He also serves as Pacific Regent's resident Tech support. Eric Lane Barnes Music Appreciation Eric is an accomplished choral director, composer, writer, conductor and performer...just to name a few of his talents. His passion is to explore all of the ways music can connect people with themselves, one another and the world. He is a bringer of joy! Eric also entertains PR residents every Friday at the popular Sing-a-Long party. Nurse Debra Goeppele Mindful Meditation Nurse Debbie has years of medical experience in helping Pacific Regent residents age gracefully and with dignity. She is a tremendous community resource and has a holistic approach to health utilizing many methods to achieve positive results. Denise Hance Bible Study Human Resources Director, licensed Minister and life long student of the World of God, Denise is faithful and walks the talk. She has taught Pacific Regent residents from all walks of life. Her knowledge and ability to share it while making it relevant is palpable. In this weekly course, learn how to apply the Bible to your daily life. Pamela Love Powerful Stories Pamela holds a Professional Acting Degree in Acting and a MFA in Performing Arts. The arts are all about communicating compelling stories in using different media. Pamela will guide residents to share their own fond stories and memories in writing with the hope of sharing them with the community and family. Suzanne Parcells Behind the Scenes: Kitchen Suzanne studied at Seattle Culinary Academy, which had the first sustainable food sources program in the country. She has worked at Pacific Regent as the Director of Dining Services and Executive Chef for over 5 years. Her dedication to elevating the dining experience and exposing residents to different cultural experiences is apparent in all she does. Suzanne runs the largest department serving Independent Living at Pacific Regent.
NAME OF INSTRUCTOR CLASS NAME Bob Wright Super Bowl Predictions Executive Director Robert "Bob" Wright has many talents and skills. Additionally, no one can deny his love of the Seattle Seahawks and football. Go Hawks!! If Bob could choose another profession it would be Football Commentator or Sports Broadcaster. His knowledge is vast and it's personal.
