Boundary Overview • All students living in Seattle have a guaranteed seat at an attendance area school based on where they live. – All attendance area schools have a geographic boundary which defines who is assigned to a particular school. • Growth boundaries are the school boundary changes that occur when a new school opens or when an existing school’s enrollment changes. – The School Board reviews and approves all school boundaries. 5
2013 Growth Boundary Project • In November 2013, the School Board approved boundary changes for many elementary and middle schools. – Final decisions were strongly influenced by community input. • The approved boundary changes are being implemented each year between 2014-15 and 2020-21 to correspond with enrollment growth and capital projects.
