Miracle Network Dance Marathon Social Media Engagement Ideas Wondering what kind of content your program should be posting on your social media channels right now to engage with your participants and keep Dance Marathon relevant while we’re away from campus? We’ve got some great ideas and examples to share in the following areas: • Social Media Calendar • Celebrate Awareness Days • Questions/Polls for Instagram Stories • Social Media Challenges • Other Social Media Engagement Ideas • Guest Blog Feature Social Media Calendar: What should your program be posting on social media over the next few months? We’ve outlined some ideas for you below. Spring • Leadership Recruitment (for Spring programs) • Senior Recognition/Graduation • Year in Review (“School’s Out Shout Outs”) o Highlight successes and milestones. o Share program stats. o Recognize organizations, participants, sponsors, etc. Summer • Participant Recruitment • Summer Fundraising (for Fall programs) • What are your Miracle kids up to? Summer activities, trips, events, etc. • Other fun, entertaining content to keep Dance Marathon relevant on social media Fall • Back to School • Participant Recruitment • Team Captain Recruitment • FAQ’s, Polls, Q&A’s
Celebrate Awareness Days: Awareness days are the perfect opportunity to post non-Dance Marathon specific content. You can see a full list of National Awareness Days here. • National Puppy Day (March 1) o Post a picture of a therapy dog from your local hospital and talk about how donations help pay for the program. o Post a picture of one of your Miracle kids and a therapy dog/guide dog and talk about how it helps them in their treatment. o Create a challenge for participants to post pictures with their dogs on their IG stories and tag your Dance Marathon. • National High Five Day (April 16) o Post a picture of a someone giving high fives at your event. o Post a picture of one of your Miracle kids getting a high five. o See a high five post a high five challenge. • National Look-Alike Day (April 20) o Post a picture of participants “twinning”. o Post a poll of celebrity/student look-alikes. • National Superhero Day (April 28) • National Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month (May) • National Nurses Day (May 6) o Post a thank the nurses at your local CMN Hospital. o Collaborate with your school’s nursing program, if applicable. • Mother’s Day (May 10) o Recognize your Miracle moms! • National Limerick Day (May 12) o Write a Dance Marathon limerick. • National Do Something Good for Your Neighbor Day (May 16) o Post ideas of ways people can do something nice for their neighbors.
• National Smile Day (May 31) • LGBTQ+ Pride Month (June) o Turn your logo rainbow. o Post a DM photo with rainbow overlay. • National Donut Day (June 5) • National Cancer Survivors Day (June 7) • Father’s Day (June 21) o Recognize your Miracle dads! • 4th of July (July 4) • National Ice Cream Day (July 19) • National Sisters Day (August 2) • National Tell a Joke Day (August 16) Questions/Polls for Instagram Stories: Asking questions on Instagram is a great way to engage followers while also getting answers to questions you may need. And remember, these questions don’t always have to be out Dance Marathon. • Song Recommendations o Ask followers for their favorite songs and create/share a playlist with their suggestions. • Campus Connection o What do you miss most about being on campus? o What are you most looking forward to when we’re back on campus? • Recruitment o Ask followers if they are interested in a certain position then direct message them the application.
• Fun Engagement Activities o Post polls/ask trivia questions about your school, hospital, Miracle kids, DM history, etc. o Ask people to send in their favorite recipes and make a DM recipe book/post. Social Media Challenges: You can use shareable stories and challenges to engage your audience in both Dance Marathon and non-Dance Marathon specific content. Watch for the trends you’re seeing with these challenges across social media and implement the most relevant ones on your program’s page. • “See a Pic, Share a Pic” Challenges – Someone starts by posting a picture and then tagging a couple friends to do the same. Some examples below: o DM-Related § Post your favorite DM photo. § Post a picture with a Miracle kid. o Funny/Entertaining § Post a picture of you ugly crying. o Cause-Connected § Share your why. § Post a picture or video to thank first responders for their tireless work during the pandemic, including and especially our medical staff at our hospitals. § Post a picture of your favorite quarantine activity or something you’re doing while staying home to promote social distancing. • Graphics Challenges – Post a template on your program’s story that people can screenshot, fill out, and share on their own stories, then tag three friends to do the same. • Participate in and promote campus-wide initiatives, events, and announcements (i.e. student government elections, extended food pantry hours, a student health PSA, etc.). It’s important for you to stay connected with campus beyond the scope of just Dance Marathon. This is an awesome opportunity for your program or individual team members to share reflections, best practices, or celebrations of successes with the larger Network.
