Reflection / Faith Formation Page 3 Mass: An Encounter with Jesus (A Deeper Appreciation of the Holy Mass) “No Mass is celebrated, no communion received without me remembering that You delivered Yourself up to death for the redemption of the world. Your painful death on the Cross is represented at Mass by the Consecration of the bread and wine. I wish to attend Mass often, and in this way, show my gratitude to You for having died on the Cross out of love for me.” Blessed Sacrament Novenas, p8. Beloved sisters and brothers, to encounter a benevolent person is usually cherished and celebrated. People will always admire and appreciate a person who may have gone the extra mile for their wellbeing, such as an organ donor or a benefactor who labored to put someone through in college or a first respondent, who toil day and night to keep others safe. I remember a very close family that would not miss any opportunity to joyfully introduce and acknowledge at any of their important family celebrations, the donor of one of their daughter’s major organ. The Holy Mass offers us an opportunity to encounter someone who gave His life so that we may have life and have it in fullness (John 10:10). This graceful sentiment of encountering a hero, a wounded healer, a person who sacrificed a lot for our life and happiness, ought to accompany us when we come to the Holy Mass. To see the Mass as a moment to encounter the person who loved us to the point of giving up his life for our joy and wellbeing remains an evangelical tool for a deeper appreciation and celebration of the Lord’s Supper. With this renewed understanding of the Holy Eucharist, we can prayerfully recognize that the Holy Mass is a moment to encounter and dialogue with our best friend ever (BFF). “Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13). In Jesus, we find a true friend! To visit with Him ought to be a joyful event accompanied with lively sentiments of freedom, appreciation, and dialogue. The freedom we celebrate in our encounter with the Blessed Lord is a freedom from other attachments, an invitation to forgo anything for the love you have for your friend, the Lord Jesus. Anything that can destroy this friendship such as sinful behaviors, and inordinate attachments to things and persons, should be eliminated. There is also an exercise of freedom to worship, to express yourself, to talk to our friend, to be in communion with Jesus during Holy Mass. Telling Jesus that we are grateful for what He did for us and what He continues to do for us, for our families, and for the world (John 6:51) increases our active participation at Mass. Attending our Sunday liturgy or to coming to daily Mass is an opportunity to dialogue with our Jesus, to dine with our hero, to encounter our friend, to share moments of joy and gladness with someone very dear to us. Holy Mass is a time to listen to the story of Jesus and to appreciate the narrative of a wounded healer; it is a time to learn from the true Master, to have a date with our beloved Jesus, and to cherish the sacrifices of our BFF. Jesus died for us, so we ought to live for Him. We ought to be His mouthpiece in our present world filled with hatred, violence, and anger. May we bear witness to Jesus by making Him present in our lives, in our hearts, and in our homes. Thank you Jesus for the Holy Mass! Thank you Jesus for the gift of yourself! Thank you Jesus for the gift of our priests, who celebrate the Holy Mass for us and invite us to meet you who remains a faithful friend and a merciful Lord. Have a Blessed Week!!! Fr. Ben

Page 6 Out Reach Dear Brothers and Sisters, I am happy to announce that we have a new principal! His name is Mr. Enrique Landin. Enrique brings a wealth of experience with him to Sacred Heart Parish School and is very excited to join us. For the last few years, he has been principal at St. Catherine of Siena in Rialto. Please join me in welcoming him. Thank you, Fr. Ben Dear Members of Sacred Heart Parish and School Community, it is my pleasure that I introduce myself, Enrique Landin, as your new principal at Sacred Heart Parish School. I am very excited to be here and look forward to being a part of this welcoming community. I would like to tell you a little about myself. I’m not only an educator in our diocesan schools, but also a parent of three students. My oldest son is a Senior and my daughter is a Freshman this school year at Aquinas High School. My youngest son is a Fourth Grader at St. Catherine of Siena Parish School. I bring to our parish 20 years of Catholic Education experience in our diocese (12 of those years as Principal). I began at St. Catherine of Siena Parish School, in Rialto, as a Middle School Teacher and after 8 years became Principal there. After 7 years as Principal, I transferred to St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish School, in Riverside, where i served as Principal for 5 years. In 2011 I was awarded Distinguished Teacher, in 2015 I received the Friend to Children award, and in 2018 I was awarded Distinguished Principal by the Office of Catholic Schools. Over the past few months I have had the opportunity to meet the staff and with many of the excellent teachers, while learning about the rich history of Sacred Heart Parish and School. I have been working with staff and teachers, first on a re-opening plan, and then on an online learning plan. As the 2020/2021 school year begins with Catholic Online Synchronous Learning, I look forward to supporting teachers and staff as they collaborate in helping all students succeed through a quality Catholic Education at Sacred Heart Parish School. I look forward to working with Fr. Ben as he leads us forward, as well as with students, parents, families, and the parish community. And please, if you have any questions or concerns that I can assist you with, please feel free to contact me at 909-803-1400 “Sacred Heart One Family, One Family Sacred Heart!” Yours in Christ, XÇÜ|Öâx _tÇw|Ç Sacred Heart Parish School Home of the Bulldog Pride (909) 803-1400 12676 Foothill Blvd. Padre Ben
