She’ll have an associate’s degree by the time she graduates high school. She cares as much about academics as anything she does athletically. The junior point guard arrived in Ninilchik a week into the prep basketball season. Now the newcomer is recognized as one of Alaska’s best. Colburn has been named the 1A BOYS PLAYERS OF THE YEAR Wasilla Lithia Dodge/Alaska Association of Basketball 2021 Landon Colburn, Ninilchik 2020 Edward Kokeok, Shishmaref Coaches 1A Boys Player of the Year. 2019 Edward Kokeok, Shishmaref 2018 Lance Folger, Tanana “He’s embraced Ninilchik and Ninilchik has embraced him,” 2017 Austin White, Ninilchik Ninilchik head coach Dick Hawkins said. “It’s been a good 2016 Fritz Jackson, Akiachiak 2015 Angel Medina, Scammon Bay fit.” 2014 Tyrus Morgan, Klawock 2013 Danny Wells, Noorvik Hawkins said it was a very smooth transition as Ninilchik 2012 John Peterson, Golovin 2011 Oscar Takak Jr, Elim welcomed the point guard to the program after Colburn 2010 Jonny Samuelson, King Cove moved from Oregon. 2009 Wayne Holberg, Kalskag 2008 Mason King, Bristol Bay “It didn’t seem like a problem,” Hawkins said. “We got him into the practices. An essay providing details about the applicant’s sports activities, community involvement, and grades.
