Rules & Information for Exhibitors Rules & Information for Exhibitors • ALL entry fees are a Gold Coin unless otherwise stated • Acceptance of entries: o Entries in all sections (EXCLUDING OPEN & JUNIOR/SCHOOL ARTWORK SEE SECTION FOR ENTRY REQUIREMENTS) will be taken in the Main Pavilion from 9am- 12pm Saturday 14th September 2019 Or o From 9-13th September at 91 Boorowa st Young (Side Entrance) from 10am-4pm • Pickup of Entries & Prize Money: o Can be collected from 6-6.45pm in Main Pavilion on Showday- Pavilion will CLOSE AT 6.45PM o Pavilion will open on the Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th after Showday from 10-2pm for collection of exhibits & prize money • Prize money in ALL sections (unless otherwise stated) are: 1st Prize- $3.00, 2nd Prize $1.00 • Definition of Novice: Exhibitor who has not won a prize in a similar section at the Young Show • Stewards have the right to move exhibits to correct classes if they have been wrongly entered

Build A Bee-u-tiful Hotel OR a BAT BOX! Our Bees and Bats Need Our Help! Give Mother Nature and our native bees and micro bats a helping hand and keep our plants, food and crops fertilized and us growing strong! Recipe for Class 23- Prune Muffins INGREDIENTS 1 cup VERITY prunes chopped 1 cup Castor Sugar 110gm Butter 2 eggs lightly beaten 1 cup Water 1 cup Plain flour 1 cup SR flour 1 teaspBicarb Soda METHOD 1. Heat oven to 180C. Lightly grease a tray of 12 x ½ cup muffin cups 2. Place VERITY prunes, butter & sugar in a saucepan, bring to the boil & allow to simmer for 5 minutes. Cool slightly 3. Add eggs, bicarb soda, & both flours to prune mixture. Mix well. Spoon into Muffin Cups 4. Cook for 20-25 mins or until cooked through
RICH FRUIT CAKE COMPETITION State Wide Competition • Winner at the Young Show will need to make a second Rich Fruit Cake to compete in the Regional Semi-Final in Dubbo on Feb 22nd 2020 • Regional winner will bake a third for the final judging at the Sydney Royal Easter Show • Recipe to be followed exactly and Baked in a 20cm (8’) tin INGREDIENTS 250 gm Sultanas2 50gm Currants 250gm Plain Flour 250gm Butter ¼ teasp Grated Nutmeg 4 large Eggs ½ teasp Vanilla Essence ½ teasp lemon essence 90gm chopped red glace cherries 250gm chopped raisins 90gm chopped blanched Almonds 125gm chopped peel 60gm SR Flour 250gm Brown Sugar ½ teasp Almond essence ½ teasp ground ginger 1/3 cup Sherry or Brandy ½ teasp ground cloves METHOD 1. Mix together All fruit & nuts- sprinkle with the Sherry or brandy. Cover and leave for at least 1 hr (overnight is best) 2. Sift together flour & spices. Cream together butter & sugar with essences & add the eggs one at a time- beating well after each addition 3. Alternately add fruit & flour mixtures & mix thoroughly. Mixture should be stiff enough to support a wooden spoon 4. Place mixture in to prepared 20cm tin & bake in a slow oven for 3 ½- 4 hrs 5. Allow cake to cool in the tin
Section G- Jams & Preserves Prize Money Donated by Mr & Mrs J & M Tout • All exhibits to be cooked by exhibitor • Each Container must be marked with the exhibitors label stating the nature of the contents • Maximum size of Jars is to be 375 gm, any size Fowlers Jars for preserves • Cellophane or unlabelled lids to be used on exhibits Exhibitor Tips: JAMS • Good colour resembling fruit used- too dark may be result of caramelisation • Aroma should have a slight sweetness- Overly sweet bouquet indicates too much sugar • Consistency – good set, syrup should bind the pieces- stiff consistency may be the result of overcooking • Small, even pieces of fruit evenly distributed throughout the syrup. Clear Syrup, Jam should be free of froth or bubbles or evidence of crystallisation CONSERVES • Large or whole pieces of fruit evenly distributed in syrup. Fruit should retain its shape unlike Jam • Ratio of fruit should be greater than syrup MARMALADES • Thin slices of fruit of julienne of citrus ring, evenly distributed throughout the syrup • Syrup should be clear and firm set& fruit/rings should be consistent in size & shape • Should be rich with well-developed colour not dark • Visibility should be good even with darker fruit JELLIES • Rich well developed colour, not dark which could indicate overcooking • Should be transparent , clear and not cloudy when held to light • Must be extract products of fruit only- no colouring or glutinous material • Should be firm and hold its shape for several minutes when cut with a spoon

YOUNG SHOWGIRL COMPETITION 2019 The Showgirl Competition aims to find a young woman to act as an ambassador for rural NSW, with her role involving many official and informal duties both at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, and during her travels interstate and overseas. It is NOT a beauty pageant. Most importantly the Showgirls must have a genuine interest in, and knowledge of, rural NSW. The competition encourages the participation and subsequent awareness or rural women’s contribution and involvement in both local communities and rural NSW as a whole. Proudly Sponsored by: Judging will occur on Saturday 7th September 2019. The entrants will be judged at a luncheon starting at 11.30. A Cocktail Dress dinner will be held at Urban Retreat with a 6 for 6.30pm start, with the public invited to attend to be able to vote in the People’s Choice Award. The winner will be announced 2pm Show Day (Sunday 15th Sepember)

Cattle Pavilion Please Read and complete the Herd Health Status Declaration entries will not be accepted without. Entries Close: Friday 13th September 2019 Entry Fee of $2 for general classes must accompany the entry form along the National animal health Declaration. The age of all cattle is to be calculated up to 1st October e.g 2 years and over before 1st October. 2. Cattle judging to commence at 10am. 3. Exhibitors must complete the special entry form PLUS the Johne’s Disease declaration form provided. 4. Cows over 3 years of age must be in calf or have calf at foot. 5. All exhibits at all times to be provided with strong halters and nose clips. 6. All bulls must have a nose ring and at all times be led by a halter and nose lead. 7. All females must at all times be led by a nose clip and lead. 8. All exhibits must be securely tethered by an effective head stall in addition to neck strap or rope. 9. If in the opinion of the Chief Steward, any exhibit is deemed to be dangerous, or not under proper control in the show ring, the owner of such exhibit shall immediately upon receiving notice to the effect, remove such exhibit from the societies grounds. 10.All cattle exhibits must be paraded before the judges of the section. 11.All beef cattle exhibited at the Young Annual Show must conform to the rules for “Pure Breed Cattle Classes” as at the 2018 RAS Show. 12.Paraders are to be correctly attired in Breed Society requirements. 13.No child under the age of 12 years of age is to lead an animal in the general classes. 14.Any calf that is exhibited with mother, cannot be exhibited in a separate class 15.Assessed &Non Assessed Cattle will be segregated in the shed. There will be no communal water facilities provided. 16.Cattle coming from Non-assessed herds in a control zone will need to have a negative blood test within 6 months of the show. 17.All exhibitors, handlers and grooms must sign Indemnity form and be issued with a wrist band. This band is to be worn at all times. 18.Trophies will be presented in the Murray Bolger Cattle Arena at 3.30pm 19. PESTI VIRUS - Tested and cleared animals will be accepted on the grounds. Non-tested animals WILL NOT BE PERMITTED ON THE GROUNDS. Please ensure that your animals are
tested and able to provide a certificate confirming testing and clearance.
