VETERANS’ CLUB So, we have come to the end of the year. I look back upon some highlights and with gratitude to my fellow brother veterans. I recall that our officers, Sal Saladini, Tony Anderson, Sandy Epstein and Chet Trechok kept the Club functioning while I was away for three months. I want to thank Howard Cohen and Dave Lyttle for their most informative presentations at our January and February meetings, respectively. Let me not forget, too, our traditional cherry pie and ice cream servings at the February meeting. Thanks, Tony. The Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies sponsored by the Town of Franklin were significantly reduced Sam Pesce and Tony Anderson deliver donations to Operation Shoebox NJ headquarters. this year, but it did not prevent our Club’s contribution to their programs. There may not have had the traditional parade, band or classic cars with our members proudly seated within, but the Town made its best use of Zoom and broadcasting them on their website. The community’s gazebos were decorated for the Fourth of July and for Veterans Day thanks to the help of Fred Campo. Speaking of the gazebos, the one in Veterans Park now displays plaques representing the six branches of service. Have you also noticed the service garden flags that are on display? Sam Pesce and Tony Anderson with Operation Shoebox donations. Last, but certainly not least, the TREMENDOUS COMMUNITY RESPONSE to our Club’s call for support of Operation Shoe Box NJ. With the help of many members of the Veterans’ Club, approximately 400 pounds of food and personal items were collected along with a RECORD of $2,511 in well-needed donations. Rod Hirsch, Executive Sure You’re Director of Operation Shoe Box, NJ, was totally impressed and thankful for the outpouring of generosity expressed by the residents of Canal Walk.
