Firefighters received the callout, to Pakuranga’s Lloyd Elsmore Park, shortly after 3pm on Friday. But the solo mum received a major surprise, in the form of a brand new car, when she recently rocked up to a south Auckland service station. She and her 12-year-old daughter Ahumairangi Te Pere thought they were at the BP Pacific station in Manukau to serve as extras for a television advertisement. They followed the crew’s instructions by driving their Toyota Caldina through the sta- tion’s ‘‘magic’’ car wash. What they didn’t know is the wash was equipped so certain customers’ vehicles would be filled with prizes including a motorbike, paddle boards, kayaks, surfboards, and bicycles. When the Te Pere family, who live in Manurewa, got to the other end of the car wash they were greeted by a sign saying they’d won a new vehicle. It turned out to be a 2018 Ford Ecosport.
