YARD WASTE AND STORM WATER WYOMING CIVIC CENTER RUN-OFF DO NOT MIX It’s not too early to start thinking about holiday events. With our added liquor license and freshly renovated space, the Civic Center is the perfect spot to host your corporate gathering, family get together, birthday, retirement, or special milestone. Call today to make an appointment! To have your next event at the Civic Center call 513.821.5423. Wyoming is fortunate to have a series of channels and creeks running through the community to control storm water run-off. Some of these features have names such as Cilley, Vale, and Ritchie Creeks – while many others are unnamed. These channels and creeks ultimately drain to the Mill Creek. If your yard backs up to a creek or a significant drainage feature, remember your downstream neighbors when identifying a location in your yard to place a compost pile, wood pile, or an area to place yard waste or other items or debris. Do not place these items on or near the banks of the creek or other significant drainage feature. During heavy rains, run-off water and rising creeks can cause items to be washed away and to possibly clog or damage downstream culverts and bridges – leading to localized flooding and other problems. It is also important for property owners to maintain the integrity of any retaining walls that have been placed along the stream banks on their properties so that components of these walls do not become dislodged and swept downstream. In an effort to better protect these creeks the City of Wyoming adopted a set of Stream Corridor Regulations several years ago. These regulations are intended to not only protect stream quality, they are intended to also enhance public safety by minimizing flooding and potential property damage. Remember to be considerate of your downstream neighbors and the environment. 8 |AUGUST 2018 Word on Wyoming www.wyomingohio.gov
