AQUATICS SCHOOL OF FINS: SWIM AND SAFETY LESSONS Ages 6 months-8 years The Blue Ash Recreation Center is pleased to bring back the School of Fins: Swim and Safety Lessons for 2018! The School of Fins: Swim and Safety Lessons will emphasize the importance of safety in and around the pool, the basics of freestyle and backstroke and much more! Students can expect to learn an array of safety skills designed to help parents and children feel more comfortable at the pool. They will also learn different drills to prepare them to become proficient in the two beginner swim strokes. Each session is one week in length with each lesson lasting 35 minutes. Each lesson will include safety skills, stroke development, and safety topics. Lessons will be taught by the Blue Ash lifeguards who are excited to teach your child about safety and swimming. Play and learn with your child as you explore the water together. Children must be at least 6 months old and are required to wear disposable swim diapers if not yet potty trained. Class Size Maximum- 1 instructor, 10 participants Mini Blue Fins: Ages 3-5 years Class Time Offerings: 9:40AM, 10:25AM, 11:10AM, 5:30PM, 6:15PM, 7:00PM Class Description: The Mini Fins class is designed to build comfort and confidence in the water by introducing basic swimming and safety skills with assistance from an instructor. Students will explore the water by blowing bubbles and getting their heads wet, and learning to combine reaching and pulling their arms with straight leg kicks. Other skills taught in Mini Fins include water bobs, introduction to treading actions, front and back float and how to recover from a floating position. Students must be at least 3 years old and comfortable without a parent. Students will spend time in water depths of 3 to 4 feet. Class Size Maximum- 1 instructor, 5 participants Lion Fish: Ages 4-6 years Class Time Offering: 9:40AM, 10:25AM, 11:10AM, 5:30PM, 6:15PM, 7:00PM Class Descriptions: The Lion Fish class focus is on skills requiring less assistance from the instructor to become a more independent swimmer. Skills include submerging the head, retrieving objects below the surface of the water, jumping from the side of the pool, treading actions, front and back gliding, introduction to rotary breathing and combined stroke on front and back for 5 yards. AQUATICS Parrot Fish: Ages 5-7 years Class Time Offerings: 9:40AM, 11:10AM, 5:30PM, 6:15PM, 7:00PM Class Descriptions: Students in the Parrot Fish class will begin to swim independently with little assistance from the instructor. Skills in this class include an introduction to rhythmic bobs, further incorporation of rotary breathing during front stroke, and combined stroke on front and back for at least 10 yards. Students will also be introduced to deep water with jumps from the side of the pool, treading, headfirst entry from the side of the pool and entering the pool from the diving board. Students must be at least 5 years old and will spend time in both shallow (3-4 feet) and deep water depths (5-13 feet). Class Size Maximum- 1 instructor, 6 participants Blowfish: Ages 6-8 years Class Time Offerings: 9:40AM, 10:25AM, 5:30PM, 6:15PM, 7:00PM Class Descriptions: Students in the Blowfish class will focus on stroke improvement, refinement and breath control, and deep water bobbing. Students will also practice surface dives, underwater swimming, treading water, diving from the side of the pool, and will be introduced to other swim strokes (optional). All students must be able to swim independently and be comfortable in deep water. Class Size Maximum- 1 instructor, 8 participants Students may advance to the next lesson regardless of age. To advance, the student must complete the lesson assessment which can be conducted by the instructor or Aquatics supervisor. BLUE FINS RECREATIONAL SWIM TEAM Ages 5-18 (Blue Ash Recreation Members Only) The Blue Fins Swim Team is for students who have graduated from the Parrot Fish class or who are more advanced and ready for the next challenge in the world of swimming. This is a 10-week swim team program that emphasizes fun while swimmers make friends and learn higher levels of swimming, including additional strokes. The Blue Fins Swim Team practices up to three (3) days a week and competes against other local swim teams in the Northern Suburban Swim League (Evendale, Sharonville, Springdale, etc.). During practice, team members can expect to build endurance, focus on stroke refinement, dive off starting blocks, and work on flip turns. Fee: $100 for the first swimmer, $90 for the second family member and $80 for additional swimmers in the family (must be sibling). FREE FITNESS ORIENTATIONS This 45 to 60 minute session is designed to introduce you to our equipment and the basic components of exercise. It will include a personal workout card that our fitness staff will note seat heights and other information for your future use. Orientations are given by appointment only. To schedule an orientation call or email Kim Warner, Fitness Manager at (513) 745-8435 or kwarner@blueash.com. New members are encouraged to take advantage of this FREE service. Please note that anyone under the age of 16 is required to complete an orientation before using the fitness center. PERSONAL TRAINING One of our nationally certified personal trainers will design a specialized program and work one on one with you to help you attain your personal goals. First, you will need to schedule an initial consultation. The consultation consists of a meeting in which we will establish your fitness goals, and take you through a series of assessments (wear workout clothes). Before your first “hands on” training session your personal trainer will use the information acquired during the initial consultation to design a program for you. The number of training sessions you purchase is dependent on your needs. Individual trainer information and fees can be found below. GROUP TRAINING Interested in something a little more affordable than personal training and more personalized than a group fitness class? Our trainers have specific hourly rates for training individually as well as with groups, but if you have 3 or more people and are interested in committing to a longer time frame (typically between 4 and 8 weeks) then we offer more affordable individual rates for group sessions. Rates may vary slightly depending upon the type of session that is being offered (Yoga, TRX, Cycling, Kettlebell, General Boot Camp, etc). If you would like to create your own group training class with 3 or more of your friends, feel free to contact any of our trainers directly. EXPERT TRAINERS Expert Trainers have a nationally recognized personal training certification and are a great choice if you are looking to get back into shape. MASTER TRAINERS Initial Consultation: $50 per individual Master Trainers are our most experienced trainers. BASIC GROUP FITNESS CLASSES Zumba I Zumba fuses Latin and international music and dance themes together for a great, dynamic, and effective fitness class. The routines combine fast and slow rhythms that tone, sculpt, and inspire! Just Fit B Combine fun with fitness in this 30-minute exercise class that is great for the active older adult, beginner, or anyone searching for a class that is low impact and suitable for all ages and fitness levels. Instructors will emphasize basic movements for daily living that will increase flexibility, range of motion, muscular strength, and cardiovascular fitness. 360 Training B Learn how to maximize the benefits you can get by working out on the Synrgy360 unit (the large red structure in the fitness center) by attending this circuit style group fitness class. Taught to the level of the participants and open to all ages and ability levels. ABSolutely Core I 30 minutes of gut blasting core work! ABSolutely Core combines a little cardio with a lot of core work to help you attain your body sculpting goals. Whether you are aiming for a six pack or just want to firm your middle, this class is great for anyone wanting to get in better shape. Cardio Core I This 45-60 minute cardio session will help you trim excess fat and give you the mid-section you’ve always wanted. Emphasis will be placed on strengthening and toning the abdomen, butt, hips and lower back. Circuit Training I A A cardio, strength, and flexibility class focused on providing participants with a balanced total body approach to fitness. This class is a great way to break up the monotony of your “normal routine” and learn new exercises in a group atmosphere. Power & Endurance (PE) I A A complete and functional approach to fitness focusing on attaining peak physical fitness for your age and ability level. Exercises emphasize total body training. Sports Conditioning I A This total body workout provides a high intensity approach, and still maintains a “work at your own pace” attitude. Perfect for participants who enjoy athletic conditioning based workouts. Exercises such as sprints, jump rope and agility drills are common and can always be modified. PREMIUM GROUP FITNESS CLASSES Hatha Yoga B I Hatha Yoga takes a minimalist approach to burning calories, contracting muscles and stressing the body’s cardiovascular system while encouraging concentration on subtle energy flows that fosters an inner awareness of body position. It centers on static postures and fluid motions, emphasizes controlled breathing that draws attention inward and low-impact drills meant to strengthen body and mind. Group Cycling B I A A 50-minute indoor cycling class focusing on cardio challenges, hill climbs with varying speeds and resistance for all participant levels. Classes taught by spinning certified instructors. Tai Chi B I A Tai Chi is made up of slow movements and breathing exercises. Designed to allow chi, or energy, to flow freely throughout the body. Through these programs children will learn basic techniques and fundamentals taught by Jump Start Sports Coaches in a fun and creative way. All sessions take place on the fields behind the recreation center. T-Birds T-Ball Ages 3-4 Players learn the basics of catching, fielding, throwing, and hitting.
