Star Outdoors is a purpose built facility right on the shore of the Kenmare Bay and a major
attraction along the Wild Atlantic Way. Offering a comprehensive portfolio of different
activities all done under the supervision of our qualified staff, it makes for the perfect
destination for a school tour. Did you know too, that Star Outdoors is the only centre where
you can combine mountain biking, paintball and the banana boat – all in one day?
At Star Outdoors not only do we provide the opportunity to engage in a wide variety of
activities but we ensure that, in addition to the spectacular location, we provide you with all
the facilities and equipment you’d expect from a first class centre; a substantial fleet of craft,
wetsuits and booties, buoyancy aids and helmets for water activities, protective suits for
paintball, cycle helmets and performance bikes for mountain biking as well as multiple
changing rooms with hot showers for when the day’s activities are done. Combine that with
our own pier, accommodation in Kenmare town, as well as an on-site restaurant and we
have everything you need in one place.

ABOUT KENMARE
There are many places to choose for a visit so why choose Kenmare? The answer is
multifaceted; it has an enviable location, a rich heritage, a dynamic community, a colourful
history and the most incredible mix of flora and fauna.

Kenmare, or Neidin (Irish for ‘Little Nest’), is located in the south of County Kerry, not far
from the border with Cork and at the head of the Kenmare Bay where the Ring of Kerry
meets the Ring of Beara. Under the watchful gaze of MacGillycuddy Reeks one side and the
Caha Mountain range on the other, the Kenmare Bay has been designated a ‘Special Area of
Conservation’ (SAC) because of its rich and often unique flora and fauna. The Kerry slug,
natterjack toad, large butterwort and sundew (carnivorous plants no less!!) to name but a
few but there are many more. In the bay we have a seal colony, sea otters, basking sharks,
dolphins, sea anemones and grasses and an extremely important coral reef. How many
other places in Ireland can boast such a rich natural habitat?

Kenmare can lay to a number of ‘firsts’ too; first suspension bridge in Ireland, first planned
town in Ireland and the first designated heritage town in County Kerry. Rural areas such as
Kenmare play an incredibly important part in the economy of Ireland; tourism, agriculture,
fishing and individual entrepreneurship in areas such as bee keeping, cheese making and of
course outdoor adventures.

MULTI ACTIVITY PACKAGE A
This package is the ideal option for a first year team bonding adventure.

MORNING SESSION – 3 HOURS LAND ACTIVITIES
Itinerary may include: Mountain biking, paintball combat, obstacle course, team challenges,
archery, mini golf.

A morning session may typically include: 1.5 hours mountain bike skills session & 1.5 hours
paintball combat.

AFTERNOON SESSION – 3 HOURS WATER ACTIVITIES
Itinerary may include: Kayaking, banana boat, pedal boats, canoeing, water trampoline &
slide.

Stay overnight in the self catering apartments at the Kenmare Bay Hotel.

The afternoon water session on DAY 1 will be replaced by a kayaking trip to the seal colony;
the largest resident seal colony on the Kenmare Bay and the morning session on DAY 2 will
include some of the following: kayaking, banana boat, pedal boats, canoeing, water
trampoline & slide.

BRONZE GAISCE WALK
The value of doing the Gaisce cannot be overstated and at Star Outdoors we offer one of the
best packages available – the walks, accommodation, location and leadership all combine to
make for a truly rewarding experience.

DAY 1
Arrive to the upper car park of Torc Waterfall around 10:30 / 11am where your guides will
meet your group. Your bags will be off loaded from the coach and Star Outdoors will
arrange for them to be dropped back to Kenmare as the walk gets underway.

The rest of the day will be spent travelling along the Old Killarney Road (part of the
spectacular Kerry Way) back to Kenmare and en route your group can keep look out for
deer, hares, wild goats and, most impressive of all, the white tailed sea eagle who was
reintroduced to the park back in 2007. The family make for an incredible sight as they fly
over head.
On arrival back to Kenmare you will stay overnight in the self catering apartments located
in the grounds of the Kenmare Bay Hotel.

DAY 2
Star Outdoors staff will greet you bright and early at the apartments ready for the final stage
of the Gaisce walk. The group will be supervised from the apartments to Templenoe Pier
where the school bus can collect you for the trip home.

OUTDOOR SURVIVAL PACKAGE
As a 3 day expedition, this trip is certain to get the most from your students. The itinerary
has been carefully planned to ensure there is plenty of skills development mixed in with fun
and evening games; skills such as map reading, use of a compass, ‘leave no trace’ and first
aid essentials. Plus there is expedition planning, tent and camp fire set up and problem
solving in the form of team challenges. This is a fantastic opportunity to embrace the great
outdoors under the watchful eye and experience of the Star Outdoors instructors.

3 DAY SURVIVAL EXPERIENCE
This is a package that allows your group to really fulfil their potential and highlights the
importance of team work whilst encouraging individuals to show leadership in different
skills. The experience includes 2 nights in self -catering accommodation.

For a truly UNIQUE experience – Camp on an uninhabited island on the Kenmare Bay with
amazing features such as unusual plant life and rock formations. Team games and challenges at their
best!
