    Karen Davis

Karen Davis is assistant dean for inclusive excellence in the College of Engineering
and Computer Science (ECS) at Syracuse University. Born and raised in the Bronx,
Davis earned a bachelor’s degree in communications and rhetorical studies from
Syracuse University in 1983. She went on to earn an MBA from the Whitman
School of Management in 1990.

Davis began her career as an administrator at Syracuse University. In 1989, she
moved to industry, joining UTC Carrier Corporation as a business analyst. In her
15-year career at Carrier, Karen held various roles in human resources, including
equal employment opportunity, affirmative action, diversity and recruiting.

Her passion for student support and excellence inspired Davis to return to campus
in 2004. As a member of the ECS leadership team, Davis served for 14 years as
director of career services, and for the last two years as assistant dean for inclusive
excellence. Among her contributions demonstrating strategic leadership expertise,
Davis introduced VMock, an analytical resume building platform, which was later
adopted and applied for campuswide use by central career services.

In her current role as assistant dean for inclusive excellence, Davis is leading a
collegewide effort to enhance the culture of diversity, inclusion and equity in the ECS
community. A key element is the Leadership Dialogue Circle, which Davis helped
to create and implement. After two years of highly successful engagement in ECS,
the blueprint for the Leadership Dialogue Circle was adopted and expanded across
Syracuse University’s schools and colleges. Under Davis’s leadership, ECS was
recently recognized among its peer institutions with bronze medal distinction in the
2021 American Society of Engineering Education Diversity Recognition program.

Adding further sparkle to her administrative leadership, Davis is known, respected
and widely admired for her outgoing positive spirit and willingness to go above and
beyond for students. She is considered an “influencer” based on her sincere mission
of utilizing resources to inspire the advancement of others.
