A Holistic Educational Experience for all NYP Students • General Studies Modules (GSMs) - providing you the opportunity to be exposed to other areas beyond your field of study • Combination of prescribed and elective inter-disciplinary GSMs during your diploma course • Able to select elective GSMs offered by other schools within NYP (in Yrs 2 & 3) • Opportunity to attend lessons with students from other schools • Each GSM = 15 hours per semester (1 credit) • All students are required to complete 10 credits of GSMs

Year 1 Prescribed GSMs Understanding Singapore (15-hour module) • Provide opportunities to engage meaningfully on national policies and issues relating to Singapore’s security, economy, and society. • Display a deeper awareness of their identity as members of Singapore society when Singapore’s socio-cultural diversity and social cohesion are discussed. • Identify the advantages and constraints that shape Singapore’s policies & development, in consideration of current national and global issues affecting Singapore. Personal Career Strategy 1 (15-hour module) • Imparts life skills to prepare you to be lifelong learners and better understand the importance of values, skills and attitudes in different work life settings. • Gain an appreciation of the diverse opportunities in the specific industries relating to your field of study • Set goals for career success. Fitness for Life (30-hour module) • Appreciate the importance of keeping fit and healthy • You can participate in a sport of your choice and be able to enjoy learning it together with your peers
Selection of Year 1 GSMs BMX103 Understanding Singapore BMX102 BMX104 Personal Career Strategy 1 Fitness for Life (2 credits) (1 credit each) DBM & DHTM DAF, DBF, DMMM, DSW, DFBB, DMK • Auto-registered • Student chooses one sport option • No action required from students (nos. 1 to 15). • For students taking Understanding • Selection on 8 Oct (Mon), 9.00 am to Singapore & Personal Career Strategy 5.00pm, via student portal. 1, these modules will be auto- registered and will appear in the time- Computer Lab B503 will be open for table students who would like to use the school’s computers to register. • Students with medical conditions, refer to CM.
Year 1 students: • GS modules start in week 1 (for those doing BMX103 US & BMX104 PCS 1) • DAF, DBF, DMMM, DSW, DFBB, DMK: – FFL briefing at P1 Convention Centre on 15 Oct (Mon) 4-6pm. Compulsory. – Selection of FFL sport is on 8 Oct (Mon) 9am – 5pm via student portal.
What is BMX102 Fitness For Life (FFL)? • The FFL module is a Fitness and Wellness programme targeted at all Year One students to provide them with an appreciation of the importance of keeping fit and engaging in sports for life • You will take FFL module in either Semester 1 or Semester 2 • You can choose one of 15 sport or wellness options!

BMX102 Selection Guidelines 1. Each student is required to select one option before commencement of semester 2. Only students taking this module in that semester needs to go on-line to select the desired activity. For students taking Understanding Singapore & Personal Career Strategy 1, these modules will be auto-registered and will appear in the time-table 3. Selection of option is on a first-come-first-served basis 4. Students who did not select an option during the Selection Exercise will be manually allocated with an option by the school (based on remaining vacancies) 5. Students are not allowed to switch the allocated option once selection exercise closes or mid-way through the programme 6. Students with medical issues should inform and provide their Personal Mentors before the Selection Exercise with the valid medical documents. Students with confirmed valid medical exemptions will be assigned to participate in the “Indoor Activities” option for the semester.
