TAITOKO SCHOOL NEWS “I am safe, I am respectful, I am a learner ” Term 4 4th December 2019 Malo, Talofa Lava, Kia ora. Here we are again reaching another end to a school year. Our amazing students are ready for a well-deserved break. Both students and teachers have worked exceptionally hard this term and can be very proud of their mahi and what they have achieved. Our Health and Fitness focus, this term has gone incredibly well. All classrooms begin each day with a 15-minute fitness focus, looking at stimulating the brain to be ready to support learning. Teachers from another school, came to visit and saw this in action, with all our students involved in circuit training, dance, and movement to music. Feedback from our students showed that they found fitness fun and wanted to continue with it. Staffing for 2020 This term we will farewell Mr Paterson, who is leaving to follow his passion in the Fishing Industry. What a fantastic opportunity for Mr. Paterson! We will welcome to our Taitoko Teaching Team, for 2020, Mr Cullen who has been teaching in some of our classrooms this term and Mr Samuelu, who has experience teaching across all senior levels and comes from Auckland. Mr Samuelu will be moving down to Levin with his family and I know our school community will make them feel welcomed. Our teacher placements for 2020 are as follows: Whare Manaaki: New Entrants - Ms Dennehy Room 5: Year 5/6 - Mrs Kiriona Room 1: Year 1/2 - Mr Cullen Room 6: Year 5/6 - Mrs Ainslie Room 2: Year 2 /3 - Mrs Gajadhar Room 7: Year 7/8 - Mr Samuelu Room 3: Year 3/4 - Miss Taipari & Mrs Kjestrup Room 8: Year 7/8 - Whaea Maria Room 4: Year 4/5 - Miss Neilsen Within School Teacher: Whaea Maria will lead an Inquiry across our school, with the ‘lens’ on engaging our Maori students and Whanau in their child's/children's learning. Looking at working together for all learners. Taitoko Curriculum: Over the past year, we have been working hard on developing our Taitoko School Curriculum and are pleased to share with you our focus for Whare Maanaki and Room 1 students. These students will be involved in Play Based Learning under our school wide chosen curriculum focus, that will be developed at our planning day on the 16th December. This will see both teachers in Whare Manaaki and Room 1 using a planning tool, to Notice, Recognize and Respond to their student’s learning. Developing oral language at a very early age, is essential for every learner. At the end of term one, the team will look at achievement data and evaluate the Play Based Learning program and meet with parents to discuss their child’s learning story. Please contact the school to share your ideas for this focus. We always appreciate our parents who come in to share their thoughts and ask questions. We value our partnership between school and home. EOTC 2020: Next year is our camp year. Middle and Senior students will be given the opportunity to attend camp. At our planning meeting scheduled for the 16th of December, our teachers in the above year groups will discuss and tentatively book camps for Term 4, 2020. This will ensure all parents who wish to attend camp, have time to be police vetted, as stated in our school policies and receive relevant information early. Invitation to Whanau: All teachers will be at school on the 31st of January 2020 from 9 am - 1 pm, for parents to meet their child’s/children’s teacher. Students placed in Whare Maanaki and Room 1, will have an opportunity to see Play Based Learning Stations set up, with both teachers available to share, the purpose of the learning stations. Our Taitoko Facebook page will have the above date on it. I wish to thank everyone for their support and look forward to working with you all next year. Enjoy the holiday break and time with family and friends Regards Rachel King
