B T CLU H E WI 18 54 N M BLEDO THE WIMBLEDON CLUB The Wimbledon Club is a multisports club in the heart of Wimbledon Village, with separate sections for squash, tennis, cricket, hockey and a gym. The Club facilities include a first floor bar and restaurant, with balconies overlooking the tennis courts and cricket pitch, extensive changing rooms and shower facilities. The Club is committee led with the cricket programme and coaches being managed by the Cricket Director. The junior cricket programme is hugely successful with around 70 boys in each of the U5 – U15 age groups. Our girls programme is going from strength to strength and now offers cricket to U5 – U15 as well. 3
MEET JONATHAN SPELLER CRICKET DIRECTOR Jonathan Speller has spent his life playing and coaching cricket as well as managing clubs within the cricket industry. Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Jonathan became a passionate fast bowler. From the age of 14 he played in Premier First XIs and represented his province, before enrolling for a BCom Industrial Psychology degree at the University of Johannesburg. Leaving SA for England in 2008, Jonathan found himself at Church Road within 24 hours of his arrival in London and The Wimbledon Club became his new adopted home. Having played for 3 seasons, Jonathan moved to Banstead to aid in the development of their Colt section as Assistant Head Coach under the legendary Ali Jaffer. For the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons, Jonathan headed up the coaching and playing operation at Spencer Cricket Club as Director of Cricket, but now feels back at ‘home’ having re-joined The Wimbledon Club as the Director of Cricket in 2018. Jonathan has a passion for teaching and coaching the game. His coaching ethos is built around encouraging and motivating children to challenge themselves at all levels. Jonathan is determined to build a learning environment during training sessions that promotes achievement and high attainment levels for each of our junior members as they advance along their learning journey from the Beginner level to Mastery. 4

IMPORTANT INFORMATION PARKING Cricketers parking is on Church Road, where parents are able to walk in to drop off and collect their children. (It is not possible for junior cricketers and their parents to park inside the club grounds as there is not enough space). Children must be collected from the area in front of the club house where they will be with the coaches until parents arrive. It should also be noted that only adult club members are allowed to park in the car park area from the nets to the Club house. All parents are of course welcome to stay during the training session – the bar area will be open as normal. At all locations please ensure that dogs are kept on leads at all times. Please do not walk across the cricket square at any time. WET WEATHER Despite our best efforts we are not able to control the weather! As a result occasionally we have had to cancel all junior cricket. We make every effort to leave this decision as late as possible on a week day evening or Sunday morning in the hope that we do not need to cancel. Since we cannot ring, or answer calls from over 700 participants, we have put some procedures in place so you can check if cricket is on. WEEKDAY EVENING TRAINING AT THE CLUB A decision will be made by 5pm and if the session is cancelled an email will be sent to the relevant age groups. SUNDAY MORNING SESSIONS AT THE CLUB A decision will be made by 8.30am and if the session is cancelled an email will be sent to the relevant age groups. CLUB MATCHES – HOME OR AWAY If you are due to play for one of the teams then your match Manager will contact you as soon as he is advised of any decision. Please contact him direct if you are unsure. WET WEATHER ONCE SESSIONS HAVE STARTED We have no indoor cricket facilities at any of the venues. All players will remain in the clubhouses/pavilions of the relevant Club, or ground until they are collected. WIMBLEDON FORTNIGHT During Wimbledon fortnight, no cricket takes place at The Wimbledon Club. Please keep an eye out for emails closer to the time explaining what happens during this period. 8
