13 JUN 2019 – Kilimanjaro - Arusha Start Safari: Kilimanjaro International Airport Kilimanjaro - Arusha, Tanzania (Arrival Location) Kilimanjaro - Arusha, Tanzania Mount Kilimanjaro is a dormant volcano that stands 19,000 feet high in Tanzania. It's Africa's highest mountain and an impressive sight. It forms the back drop to Amboseli National Park and the Chyulu Hills Wildlife Preserve in Kenya, and Arusha National Park in Tanzania. The surrounding area is known for some of the largest elephant tusks ever recorded. You can trek to the top of Kilimanjaro on one of two main routes, the Shira route and the Machame route. The Kilimanjaro Airport is serviced by international carriers, and it serves as a gateway to Tanzania's Northern wildlife highlights including Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and the Serengeti National Park. Arusha is a small safari town in close proximity to Kilimanjaro International Airport. If your international flight arrives late in the day, you can stay at some charming coffee plantations and intimate hotels and recharge before setting off on safari the next day. You’re guaranteed a great cup of coffee to send you on your way. Rivertrees Rivertrees is a small country estate, set in the exquisite location of the Usa River, Tanzania. Now imagine the plains filled with so many wildebeest and zebra that they run to the horizon too. This is just a glimpse of the incredible views at the Serengeti National Park. There is no other place in the world where you can get such a feeling of wild expanse. This area is famous for the Great Migration, in which millions of wildebeest and zebra travel in giant herds, and predators follow closely behind. If you’d like to see one of nature’s greatest phenomena, timing is everything. Every year is slightly different, since the migration is dictated by the weather. But in general, the migration is in the southern Serengeti in December through March, in the western Serengeti in June and July, and heads up to the northern Serengeti and Masai Mara in Kenya in September through November. Serengeti Safari Camp (Central) The Serengeti National Park, home to the Great Migration, hosts the largest concentration of wildlife in the world. Over a million wildebeest and zebra move through the ecosystem, followed by lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, and wild dogs. The sheer numbers, combined with the daily drama of life and death, makes this an unforgettable experience. Serengeti Safari Camp was the first of its kind, designed to shadow the wildebeest migration as it covers hundreds of miles of the Serengeti National Park each year. Serengeti Safari Camp moves throughout the Serengeti National Park, changing location to follow the movements of the migration, although it will not move during your stay. Camp movements are pre-planned in an effort to be within reach of the herds, but this cannot always be guaranteed given the unpredictability of nature and weather conditions. Each year, this little camp casts off from Lamai Serengeti and begins its own odyssey. This camp has six large walk-in East African-style Meru tents, each with a comfortable bed and distressed iron bed-frame, a canvas rack for luggage and a leather-topped writing desk and side tables. The use of natural materials and colors in the bedrooms works really well and is simple, yet to stylish effect. A dressing area separates the beds from the bathroom area; with new eco-flush toilets and safari-style bucket showers. Hot and cold water are available on demand. Guests accommodations are arranged in a line with the main dining tent, fireplace and library/bar tent nearby located
in the middle. Serengeti Safari Camp is one of the only places in the Serengeti where you will get a private vehicle and guide as standard for the duration of your stay, offering you the flexibility to enjoy game viewing at your own pace. Additionally, there are no limits to the timings of your game viewing – you can leave camp at dawn with a picnic lunch, and return at last light. Or you can take morning and evening drives returning to camp for lunch in between. The whole structure of the day is deliberately designed to cater for each person’s individual interests. Included Accommodation, meals, all drinks (except Champagne & premium wines), shared use of Serengeti Safari Camp, private vehicle and guide for game drives, bush picnics, laundry, transfers to/from nearest airstrip, park and concession fees Amenities Cell Phone Coverage, Ensuite Bathrooms, Laundry Included, Recharge Facilities Available at an Additional Cost Champagne & premium wines, Hot Air Balloon safaris 17 JUN 2019 - 19 JUN 2019 – Ruaha Serengeti Central Ruaha Scheduled Light Aircraft Transfer (2 hours, 5 minutes) Ruaha, Tanzania This park derives its name from the great Ruaha River which flows along its border. Wild, remote and covered with baobab trees, Ruaha contains one of the largest elephant populations in Tanzania, as well as concentrations of hippos, crocodiles and large herds of buffalo. Kigelia Ruaha One of Tanzania’s wildest parks, Ruaha National Park can be described as a true unspoiled natural wilderness. Vast and untouched it is now the largest National Park in Tanzania and stands currently at an incredible 5,685,000 square acres. Due to its distance from any major city, very few tourists visit the park each year but those who do are treated to unsurpassable wilderness and complete isolation. Kigelia is exemplary in that it lies in the best game area within this vast and beautiful park. The Ruaha River also provides an ecosystem on its own with its huge Nile crocodiles, pods of hippo and all the other smaller mammals and reptiles. The camp has six beautifully airy tents set beneath the boughs of the Sausage Tree (Kigelia Africana) after which it was
named. It has a charm and simplicity that highlights the surrounding landscape rather than detracting from it. Falling asleep under canvas to the calls of leopard, and waking in the dappled light of the sun as it peers through the bush is simply magic. The tents are well furnished with locally crafted pale wood furniture and there's a hot safari-style bucket shower under the stars (the showers are en-suite but outdoors), and a flush loo. The camp kitchen whips up some tasty feasts - simple but satisfying meals served in the intimate dining tent or better still, under the stars. Like all bush camps, there's a camp-fire where the essential sundowner can be enjoyed as the hot day gives way to cool night. From camp explore on foot and in open vehicles, in search of elephant and lion, the statuesque greater kudu and noble sable, as well as all the smaller creatures that call this place home. Enjoy comfortable custom-built open game drive vehicles which are perfect for traversing the beautiful and varied habitats of the park. Game drives are the best way to get up close to the multitude of wildlife that calls Ruaha home: big-maned lions, great herds of elephant, the handsome greater kudu or statuesque sable. Walking gives you an appreciation of the tranquility, complexity and vastness of the African wilderness and is one of the best things you can do on safari. Being in the company of a trained and experienced guide both ensures your safety and opens the door onto the wonders of your natural surroundings. Kigelia's lovely location is also an attractive spot for local birdlife and many an early morning or afternoon can be spent wandering around camp with a pair of binoculars to see what's around. Included Accommodation, meals, all drinks (except Champagne & premium wines), activities on a shared basis: game drives, bush walks, bush picnics, sundowners, scheduled road transfers to/from Ruaha (Msembe) airstrip, laundry, park fees Amenities Cell Phone Coverage, Ensuite Bathrooms, Laundry Included, Local Drinks Included, Recharge Facilities Available at an Additional Cost Premium wines and Champagne, night drives 20 JUN 2019 – Zanzibar Ruaha Dar Es Salaam Scheduled Light Aircraft Transfer (2 hours, 30 minutes) Dar Es Salaam Zanzibar Scheduled Light Aircraft Transfer (20 minutes) Zanzibar, Tanzania A few relaxing days on the beach is the perfect end to even the most luxurious safari. Zanzibar Serena Inn For a thousand years, Zanzibar was one of the world’s crossroads of trade, with Persians, Arabs and Europeans attracted to its exotic exports. Stone Town’s architecture is testimony to this cultural heritage. Flanked by an exotic mix of sultan's palaces, Portuguese forts, ancient dhow harbors, and bright bazaars, the Serena Inn is a haven of tranquility and opulence amongst the bustle of one of Africa's most ancient and most enchanting towns. Masterfully restored, the Serena Inn has been styled to represent the epitome of Swahili style, ethnic elegance and Arabic opulence. Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania (Departure Location) End Safari Julius Nyerere International Airport Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania The official capital city of Tanzania (Dodoma for you trivia buffs) is 250 miles away. But Dar es Salaam serves as the cultural and economic capital of the country. It also serves as a great stop-over point for trips farther inland. If you find yourself some extra time in the city, a trip to the national museum or an Indian Ocean beach is a great way to spend the time. Dar es Salaam is the safest city in Eastern Africa, with violent crime a rarity, even in the poorer neighborhoods.
