Junior Presentation Afternoon On a day that was beautifully sunny, and wet with a bitterly cold wind at times, we gathered together to celebrate a great 2019 rugby season. It was a fantastic sight – over 300 players, parents, grandparents, supporters and guests FILLED our clubhouse. The highlight of the day (among many highlights), was the presentation of jerseys to our Premiership-winning Under 12 team, and the club song that they, and just about every other person in the clubhouse, belted out in celebration! These events are made possible through the efforts of many committed people. We would like to make special mention of the following volunteers who made this great day possible. Please take a moment to read this list, and reflect on the incredible efforts of the members of our club. Before the day: Danny McCartan for the container (chair & table storage); Shayne, Ramm Constructions, the carpenter for the construction and Rob Costanzo, Shayne & Corné for the genius idea! to create the outdoor covered deck to protect us from the rain that was forecast for the day. Items required were purchased late on Saturday and construction started 5.30am on Sunday morning. All the senior players, junior players, parents and other volunteers who helped with setup on the morning. On the day: Corné, for organising Trophy’s, Awards, medals etc. This takes hours, and hours of work. Peet, Henri, Carl & Jaye Gordon who all helped with the running of the presentation; Patricia Hattingh & Bronwyn Keanie for photography; Jonny Pretorius for the live music in the late afternoon; The parents and senior players who supervised the children in the bouncing castles; All the senior players, junior players, parents and other volunteers who helped with clean up and pack up in the afternoon, and taking down and putting back the end wall. A very special thank you to our friend, The Honourable Vicki Chapman MP, who very graciously gave us her time to participate in our day. Not only did she present many of our awards, including the Premiership jerseys to our Under 12 team, she spoke to us, highlighting the just how great our Old Collegians rugby community is, and spent the whole afternoon with us. Thank you to every player, parent, grandparent and guest who attended to celebrate with us the great season we’ve had, and for the support you have all given our club over this season. Nate Sos Director Junior Rugby
Junior Presentation Afternoon Club News Congratulations to Siobhan Monaghan who has been selected for the RUSA U17s 7’s Squad and also to Phoebe Linder-Patton who has been selected as the coach.
Club News FROM THE DIRECTOR OF JUNIOR RUGBY What a year 2019 has been in Old Collegians rugby! There are so many people that put in a massive effort, week in and week out, for this club to function as well as it does. Coaches and Mangers: You all have the toughest job – gaining the attention of the players, keeping the attention of the players ... and then teaching them new skills to improve their game! Our group of players this year have been a happy bunch, who have enjoyed their rugby – and that is because of the incredible efforts of you all. Referees: As I mentioned at Presentation, we have had a very large number of referees this year from our junior club, more than in recent memory. I have appreciated the parents who have volunteered to referee our JPP games at home this year, which have given our junior players good role models to look to. We have had 7 junior players referee games this year, with over 10 more junior players that have acted as Assistant Referees in those games also. Our games would not be played without your involvement, so I thank you all for your incredible efforts this season, and look forward to developing you skills more next season. Volunteers: We are very fortunate to have a club with so many willing volunteers who help us out in so many ways. From those who help in the canteen and on the BBQ, to those who help set up and pack up on game day, and everything else in between – you have been noticed, and are greatly appreciated for all that you do for our club. I wish that we could award each and every one of you with a medal to recognise that work that you do for our club. Parents / Grandparents / Caregivers ... and others who provide taxi services!: Thank you for getting our players to training and games throughout the season ... and for standing in the cold rain and shouting support and encour- agement to our teams. It has been wonderful to see many junior players and families stay after their games to support our senior teams this year. This is what makes our club great! OC Committee: The Committee this year have done an outstanding job of managing the club, and moving us towards an even stronger position. The work and effort that goes into keeping our club functioning strongly is more than most will know, and we all thank the Committee for this great effort of theirs. Corné: This has been a very busy year! This has been the first year in recent memory that Corné has not had an official or formal job in the club. She has been the hardest worker by far, and has certainly earned a well deserved break. Despite this, she has been a tireless worker AGAIN this year, and I could not let this opportunity go by without thanking her for all of the hard work she has done behind the scenes this year. I have lost count of the times that Corné has called or emailed me to remind me of something that needs attention or action, only to find that she has already actioned it for me to help me out! This is a person who sees something needing to be done, and without fuss, just gets it done. Corné, I thank you! Finally, on a more personal note, it is appreciated, more than you know, the countless small words of encouragement that were given to me over the season from many of you. Thank you all. And the smiles on the kid’s faces as they trained and played – that made it all worth it! 2020 will be a HUGE year for our club, as we look to build on the success of our Under 12 Premiership, and the increasingly strong numbers coming through our Under 7 to Under 10 groups. It will be exciting to be in our new clubhouse and use our new facilities, so the off-season will be incredible busy as we make this happen. Tell your friends how much you love rugby, and love our club, and let’s get more players in to make this club even greater! See you all in 2020. Nate Sos Director Junior Rugby
