That is over a 1000 children a week!

Community Focus – 1000 Children a Week High School Mentoring Program • Over 480 children visited by a Rams player every week at their school • Marques Whippy leads high school mentoring programmes at Hillmorton, Hornby, Hagley, Mairehau & Hagley High Schools – weekly morning trainings are run by Marques and the results have already been seen with Hillmorton qualifying for Nationals for the first time • Players learn life values from their Rams mentor as well as basketball • Children receive game tickets to attend Rams home games & support their Rams mentor • Every school holidays the High School Mentoring camps attract over 50 kids In-Schools Program • Rams see 675 school children a week in our In-schools program (this program also aids the development of teachers so that they can run their own basketball programs)
High School Mentoring Program “Hillmorton High School are endeavouring to rebuild their basketball program and have Inga Solofuti (Canterbury Rams) and the current Senior A Boys team to thank for the boost they have given the sport. The team placed 3rd at the recent SSSI A's Premiership, an event Hillmorton have not entered for at least 20 years, and they have qualified to compete at the National Tournament for the first time ever! ELITE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM Mainland Eagles Academy delivered to over 50 of most talented high school players in Canterbury and the Southland with the objective of obtaining scholarships to player basketball at U.S universities – 16 players have achieved scholarships since programme began 2 years ago SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM Delivered 4 scholarships of up to $2,500 to promising young basketballer’s who cannot afford the cost commitments of participation REPRESENTATIVE PROGRAM (Canterbury Basketball Academy) Operated the Canterbury representative program for U13, U15, U17, U19 & U23 age groups with great success – over 250 players involved
Mainland Eagles Academy • The top 50 high school aged players from throughout the South Island are trained to support their goal of receiving a US College academic & basketball scholarship • Have provided training, guidance, support & US college placement for 16 players since beginning Academy began 2 years ago • 3 camps, skill training, strength training, academic guidance and college placement support is provided to all Academy members by Mark Dickel (studied & played at Division 1 US College – UNLV), Lori McDaniel (studied & played Mainland Eagles Academy member Quinn Clinton is provided training & guidance to at Butler University – Division 1 US College) & help prepare him for his dream of playing for Caleb Harrison (10 years of US college coaching New Zealand & receiving a US D1 College scholarship experience) • Annual US tour for boys & girls to help players develop and to receive US College recruiting

REPRESENTATIVE & DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM • Operated the Canterbury representative program for U13, U15, U17, U19 & U23 age groups with great success – over 250 players involved • Specialist coaches provided by the Rams (Mark Dickel, Caleb Harrison, Marques Whippy, Ethan Rusbatch & other Rams players) so players are getting best practice coaching • Rams resources are leveraged to provide subsidised strength & conditioning, nutrition, performance analysis services to the coaches & athletes in the program • All representative teams and coaches are provided with mentor coaches and support team to develop pool of elite coaches & players • Fundraising opportunities are provided to the teams through the support from our Rams sponsors Esra McGoldrick who plays for the New Zealand U19 team receives specialist coaching through the Canterbury Basketball Academy to help prepare her for the U19 World Championships Qualifying Tournament in December
2017 – Returning the Core Base structure and resources are now in place to achieve the Rams vision Now require sustainable funding to underpin excellence of delivery Retain 2 full-time elite coaches to deliver Academy and Representative program Building a squad that will be a serious finals contender every year with a core of experienced players and outstanding young talent coming through – already signed the “core 4” with Marques Whippy, Ethan Rusbatch, Marcus Alipate & Mike Karena Continuing to expand the mentoring and in-schools annual programme including the employment of Marques Whippy & Marcus Alipate to oversee it – significantly increasing basketball participation numbers Continuing to target best practice for the Academy and Representative programm and develop the best young players in the country
Rams vision: it’s not just about the team on court Largest participation sport at primary and secondary school level within the greater Canterbury region • The visibility and attraction of basketball has been dramatically lifted through having an elite local team playing, media coverage and active community and school programmes Canterbury has the best player talent development programme (U13 through to the Rams) in the country • Coaching, training resources and networks are leveraged by the Rams for the benefit of junior talent • Rams provide the pathway, exposure and access for a significantly greater number of Canterbury players to play successfully in the NZ NBL, Australian NBL or US College system Canterbury has the best coach talent development programme in the country • Rams coaching resources have directly worked to build a high performance coaching pool of 15-20 who are each mentoring 2-5 coaches • Facilitate regular group coaching clinics through the year to increase coaching networks and sharing of knowledge across Canterbury Canterbury has a participation and development pathway for young players from lower socio-economic communities • Rams mentoring at risk youth through the medium of basketball • A Rams ‘scholarship’ system for promising players, who cannot afford the current costs of participation, that puts a support and financial structure around them as required Basketball seen as an exemplar sport within the Canterbury Region • Rams are seen as a long-term sporting mainstay of the Canterbury landscape • Rams are the model for the operation of NBL teams and talent development programmes in NZ • Rams has made a major contribution to Christchurch re-build

Key personnel ANDREW HARRISON Managing Director Senior executive with international business experience and deep basketball involvement Managing director of Koau Capital Partners Ltd, a specialist investment management firm in the Māori economy. Formerly Chief Executive role of Ngai Tahu Holdings Group. Began his career with PwC and then senior international roles with oil and gas giant Halliburton in Asia, South America and the UK. Has strong basketball knowledge and experience coming from a family that is very active in administration, coaching, playing and refereeing capacities within basketball in the Canterbury community. MARK DICKEL Head Coach An outstanding Tall Black with the potential to become one of the greatest NZ Coaches of all time New Zealand’s finest point guard of all-time, having been on the Tall Blacks historic 2002 World Championship side and playing for a decade in the side. He led NCAA Division 1 in assists and was named All American (top 20 players in the country) during his time at University of Nevada, Las Vegas and played in high-level European leagues and the Australian NBL In 1995 named Tall Blacks player of the year, in 1997, he averaged 16 points and 6 assists in the World Under 23 championships and was recognised as a top 5 player at the tournament and he finished the tournament ranked third in assists per game at the 2002 world championships. A coaching resume from international appointments overseas as well as coaching the Otago Nuggets in NZ NBL. Brings the very unique experience to Canterbury of what is required to train, play and coach at the very highest level.
Key personnel Nicky Harrison Sponsorship Relations Manager Driver of the Rams vision to enhance young peoples lives through basketball opportunities Became involved with the startup of the Rams after her 4 children passionately began playing basketball. Wanting to help provide a sustainable pathway not only for her own children but also for young people throughout the entire region the vision of the Rams was born. She works tireless on delivering a Rams home game experience like no other, co-ordinating corporate hosting, ticketing & game day entertainment. Through the game day experience of the Rams and the sponsorship relationships, this allows for the vision of Rams players visiting Schools and teaching kids basketball, Rams providing specialist coaching to the Rams Development Academies and support provided for our young people to achieve their basketball drams. The development of the various partnerships with the Rams allow for a sustainable model of basketball excellence for the future of basketball throughout the region. Caleb Harrison Development Manager Specialist coach with expertise on development pathways & 10 years of US College coaching experience Co-ordinates Rams development programs including Mainland Eagles Academy, Canterbury Basketball Academy, High School Mentoring & In- Schools Coaching programs. With 10 years of international coaching experience, he leads the overall program design and development pathway being established throughout the region. He provides specialist guidance and mentoring to the families on US college & international basketball pathways. Through his US college connections & experiences he is able to find the right US College fit for each Eagles Academy member. The knowledge from coaching national teams & developing professional players is passed through the design of the High School Mentoring and In-Schools Coaching programs meeting the development needs of the participants. ISRAEL COOPER. Director Entrepreneur with international business experience, heavily involved in Canterbury’s rebuild Founder and Director of Buildtech Holdings, a rapidly growing construction company involved with the Christchurch re-build, currently employing 110 full time staff. A driving force behind award winning start-up technology company Trigger Happy and board member of Parachute Music, organisers of one of the largest music festivals in the Southern Hemisphere. Previously held roles as CFO of robotic technology company Rex Bionics and Director of Finance for Massive Software. Began career as a finance and corporate strategy specialist at PwC, where he led the firm’s NZ Media & Entertainment practice.
