A very warm welcome to our three new students who are starting with us on Monday 3 May: Greta Jurgeleit (Year 1), Christina He (Year 4) and
Georgia May (Year 4). We are looking forward to getting to know you and your families, and wish you a wonderful start at Marsden Primary. Week 1 We have a busy and exciting first week back at school next week. It is ‘Spirit and Wellbeing Week’ and our Year 13 prefects are organising a variety of activities for our girls to be involved in, including zumba, yoga and hair braiding at lunchtime. Unit of Inquiry ‘Provocation Day’ - Tuesday 4 May To begin our Term 2 ‘Out of this World - Space’ Unit of Inquiry, Te Papa’s Stardome is coming to Marsden on Tuesday. Teachers have planned a range of activities for the day to provoke the girls in their thinking and wonderings about this new learning area. Te Papa will be bringing their handling collection so our girls have the opportunity to make connections between the physical items and the night sky. They will go into the Stardome and learn how to find constellations. Girls will learn about both western and Māori astronomy and the stories told in the night sky. They will discover planets, galaxies, and other objects that can be seen from earth. Girls will also learn how early navigators used the stars to help navigate the Pacific Ocean. I’m sure your daughters will come home buzzing with excitement and new learning to share with you on Tuesday! Mother’s Day Breakfast - Wednesday 5 May 8am We are looking forward to our Preschool and Primary Mothers breakfast in the Cultural Centre at 8am on Wednesday 5 May. Breakfast will start promptly at 8am and finish at 8.45am. Following this you are most welcome to join us at our Wednesday morning Chapel service in the school’s Chapel. This is a lovely informal occasion and an opportunity for Mothers and their children to meet socially and a chance to get to know friends. In order to cover costs we will be charging $18 for Mums, $10 for children in PS - Year 3 and $12 per child in Years 4 - 6 which will be added to your account. To assist with catering arrangements please RSVP here: Mothers' Day Breakfast Registration (https://www.marsden.school.nz/about/whats-on- now/breakfast-at-marsden/)
Swimming Sports - Thursday 6 May Marsden Primary Swimming Sports will take place at Karori Pool on Thursday 6 May. The event will start at 9:30am and finish at approximately 12:00pm. The girls will walk to the pool under teacher supervision, leaving school at 8:50am and returning by 12:30pm. Years 4 - 6 will be taking part in competitive races to gain a place at Western Zone Swimming, which will take place on Tuesday 22 June. If you are available to help out during the morning, please let Kathrynn know by emailing: kathrynn.petrie@marsden.school.nz (mailto:kathrynn.petrie@marsden.school.nz) Padder tennis A reminder that for our Years 3-6 girls this term, we have organised for Paul Grubi from Padderco to come back to Marsden to deliver padder tennis lessons during Wednesday P.E. lessons with Mrs Coster. Padder tennis is an exciting form of tennis that everyone can play and enjoy! It has shorter courts than tennis, smaller bats, lower nets, softer and lighter tennis balls and simpler scoring, which allows students to learn the skills to rally sooner and develop strokes faster. Lessons will take place from Week 1 for 5 weeks. The total cost is $30 per student and will be disbursed to your school account. This year we are also having an opt-in lunchtime tournament each week for the 5 weeks for those girls who are interested in testing their skills out in a competitive and organised way, and don’t have any other lunchtime commitments on a Wednesday. The school is making this opportunity available for the students. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. The staff and I look forward to having the girls back at school on Monday. We are excited about another action-packed and productive term ahead, full of wonderful learning. Ngā manaakitanga,
