Holy Trinity Church The Trinitarian August 2021 From the Rector Save the Date Jesus said, Love Thy Neighbor We’ve had this message on our sign along Level Road for about 16 Sunday Worship 8 am & 10 am months now. It went up shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic began Live Stream on YouTube its grip on the United States. Of course, we know this message is at 10 am taken from the Great Commandment as recorded in the synoptic gospels -Matthew 22:37-39, Mark 12:29-31, and Luke 10:27. What Mondays Women's AA Meeting some may not know, however, is that when Jesus uttered these words, he was pulling from Torah. To love God with all your heart, Wednesday soul, and might is taken from Deuteronomy 6:5 and to love your August 4th, 11th & 18th Brown Bag Bible Study neighbor as yourself is from Leviticus 19:18. This command by our 12 pm Lord therefore is not a new one, but one that is ancient. In fact, we could say that the entirety of Holy Scripture, from the Garden of Eden August 9 in Genesis to the New Jerusalem as described in the Book of Vestry Meeting, Parish House 7 pm Revelation, is a complex and tangled love story between God and God’s creation and the constant call, a reminder throughout the span August 16 of time, that we should above all else Love God and Love our WHT Meeting , Neighbor. Zoom 7 pm This message, as shown on our sign for all to see as they pass our August 21 Scrapbooking parish, remains today as it did 16 months ago. I could think of nothing more important in this moment than the call to love God and August 23 our neighbors. A love that should inform the choices we make today Trinitarian Articles Due as they not only impact ourselves, but also everyone around us. There is a tension today between the individual and the community. What 2929 Level Road, Churchville, MD 21028 · (410) 914 - 5531 · office@hrinitychurchville.org · www.htrinitychurchville.org
Rector Report Continued would our faith be if Jesus only considered himself? Or perhaps the disciples that sacrificed everything? Even Moses or Jeremiah who turned away from the trappings of the world that were rightfully theirs to instead place all their heart, soul and might into God and their neighbors. Our faith is a selfless faith, one that calls us to look beyond our own needs or desires and see a wider perspective, the Kingdom of God. That is our call today, to live in love for the Kingdom of God. Jesus said, Love Thy Neighbor. Fr. Joe+ August Vacation Schedules Jenn will be on vacation August 16th &17th. Outreach We have received several thank you notes over the past months. Usually, I try to post them on the bulletin board in the Parish Hall, but in the absence of regular coffee hours until recently, I’m pretty sure they have gone unnoticed. Here are a few of them: The Native American Heritage Society thanked us for our donation at the end of 2020. Likewise, Doctors Without Borders and Feeding America. We sent each of them $200. Riverside Elementary thanked us for our “Family Games Basket” which we donated to their Riverside Community Fair. Magnolia Elementary thanked us for donating laundry supplies to one of their families. The Maryland Food Bank thanked us for a donation of $171.82 which was the total collected from our Lenten Mite Boxes. Hall’s Crossroads has thanked us for the donation of ten “Baby Basket Bundles” containing supplies that will be given to new mothers with children attending the school, and for donating various small rewards for their students who have outstanding attendance records. They thanked us for the donation of rain ponchos for their many students who walk to school. Also they thanked us for participating in the delivery of food bundles “Backpack Blessings” to the homes of some of their students with food insecurities and for our spring collection and donation of cleaning supplies toiletries, and paper goods. The Havre de Grace Housing Authority thanked us for our April donation of some of our surplus pantry items to their drive by grocery pick up event. None of this would have happened without the participation of Holy Trinity Parishioners, and I thank all of you for your contributions to these ongoing outreach efforts. Diane Quarles and Jenn Contino have put together a flyer advertising our food pantry. Some of these have been sent to county agencies and senior housing apartments. We are attempting to reach clients who would formerly have been served by FISH. We are still trying to determine how best to use our food pantry supplies. Jane Scocca Outreach Chair
250th Anniversary of Harford County The Historical Society of Harford County is planning the celebration of Harford County’s 250th anniversary. They are in the search for stories of Harford County. Do you have a story to share? Email your typed 500 to 2,000 word stories to 250celebration@harfordhistory.org for inclusion in the Harford 250 Anthology celebrating Harford’s residents, businesses and institutions. For more information you can visit www.harfordhistory.org/250-memoir/. Perfectly Delightful: The Life of Harvey Ladew On Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at 12:30 pm, Maryanna Skowronski, the Director of the Historical Society, will give an illustrated presentation on the life of Harvey Ladew from his boyhood in New York City to his years on Long Island through his final years in Harford County. One of society’s favorite bon vivants, Harvey Ladew ‘s story is that of Industrial Age wealth and a life lived to the fullest. Ms. Skowronski is a noted freelance writer in the field of equestrian sport and has enjoyed a lifelong connection to equestrian sports. This interest prompted her research into the life of Harvey S. Ladew, former Master of Foxhounds of the Elkridge-Harford Hunt and owner of Pleasant Valley Farm, now Ladew Gardens. For reservations to this virtual program, please visit the Society’s website at www.harfordhistory.org. A Visit with Jim Wollon On July 20, Father Joe and Jane Scocca visited with Jim Wollon. Father Joe presented Jim with a framed collage of photos from Holy Trinity that was created by Jenn Contino and Penny Schmidt, and Jane presented, and read to him, a letter of gratitude from the Diocese of Maryland that was signed by both Bishop Sutton and Bishop Ihloff. A copy of that document can be found on the following page. Father Joe also celebrated the Eucharist. As some of you are aware, Jim and his wife will be moving to Maine most likely in the next few months. We have been asked not to discuss this move with Jim. We, none the less, wanted to express our gratitude for all he has done for Holy Trinity and the Diocese over these many years. Keep Jim in your prayers as he navigates this next stage of life.
Connected in God’s Creation: Fulfilling our Call as Christians Join us on September 18, 9:30-3:30, in person at St. Martin’s in the Field, Severna Park. A day of community and learning sponsored by the ELCA Delaware-Maryland Synod and the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland. We are working toward God’s peace for all, through economic, environmental, racial and social justice. For more information please visit: https:// episcopalmaryland.org/event/connected-in-gods-creation-fulfilling-our-call -as-christians/ A Journey to the Holy Land I want to invite you to join with me on the sixth Pilgrimage to the Holy Land from the Diocese of Maryland, next April 18-30, 2022. This pilgrimage will be a wonderful way to live into the new Easter season, strengthen your faith, and increase your understanding of the land of the Bible. These pilgrimages have provided life-changing encounters for the dozens of pilgrims who have walked the same paths of our Lord Jesus in his earthly ministry. Our itinerary will include visits to several Biblically important sites in Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Nazareth, the Sea of Galilee, the Jordan River, the road to Emmaus, and many more. We will also visit the Princess Bassma Center for Disabled Children on the Mount of Olives, and celebrate the Holy Eucharist as the sun rises in the Judean dessert. The pilgrimage will cost approximately $4,500.00 including airfare, hotel accommodations and meals. We will be staying in Jerusalem at the Guest House on the grounds of the historic St. George’s Cathedral in Jerusalem, and at the Sisters of Nazareth convent in Galilee. You may find the proposed itinerary here: https://www.iyadqumripilgrimages.com/copy-of-diocese-of-maryland-1 Based on our experience with the previous tours, we expect this Holy Land Pilgrimage to fill to capacity with a waiting list, so please prayerfully consider registering your interest as soon as possible. To do so, or if you have any questions, contact Sally Goss (who with her husband Tom - both members at St. John’s, Ellicott City - will once again serve as our pilgrimage coordinator) at sallykgoss@gmail.com. I look forward to seeing you next year in Jerusalem! Blessings and peace, +Eugene The Right Rev. Eugene Taylor Sutton Bishop, Episcopal Diocese of Maryland
What marvelous things God can do with a little bit of our help. Forever in our Hearts Edie Himmel entered God’s Kingdom Monday morning, July 26, 2021. A service will be held at a later time. She will be interred at Holy Trinity next to her husband Norman. Her son John and daughter in law Joyce wish to thank you all for the many years she was part of Holy Trinity. "She truly loved y’all." Also thanks to all who sent her birthday wishes for her last birthday. She smiled at each and every one when they were read to her. If anyone wishes to do anything in her memory, Edie's family suggest singing loudly her favorite hymn, How Great Thou Art, or maybe a donation in her name to Pawmetto Lifeline 1275 Bower. Pkwy, Columbia SC 29212, (803)465-9150. This is a pet rescue where she found her last dog Jack. Condolences may be sent to: Joyce and John Himmel 1260 Balch Road Madison, AL 35757 Let us prayer for our departed sister in Christ, and for those who grieve.
