PHONE: (972) 562-2601 Scott Michael Kelly July 8, 1987 - January 23, 2021 Scott Michael Kelly of Dallas, Texas passed away January 23, 2021 at the age of 33. He was born on July 8, 1987 to Michael Joseph Kelly and Christine Elaine (Rowe) Kelly in Overland Park, Kansas. Scott grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico and graduated from La Cueva High School. He earned his mechanical engineering degree from Texas Tech University. Scott was an avid sports fan and collector of memorabilia. He followed the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals faithfully but was a fan of all sports. He studied and appreciated a wide variety of music, art, literature, and movies. He was teaching himself to play the ukulele and guitar at his passing. Scott was a history buff, a trivia whiz, and a bit of a foodie. Travel was a more recent passion and he made time for his two favorite annual trips; fishing in Canada and the NCAA basketball tournament in Las Vegas. He was a Lego Maniac and spent his down time building Lego sets to add to his impressive collection. Scott loved his work family and was proud of his accomplishments and many projects at M-E Engineers. He is survived by his parents, Mike and Chris Kelly of McKinney, Texas; sisters, Jill Eshelman and husband Ryan of McKinney, Texas, Diana Knee and husband, Jordan of Murphy, Texas and Laura Kelly of Dallas, Texas; niece, Rose Eshelman; grandmother, Lois Jean Rowe; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many other loving family members and friends. Scott will also be missed by his beloved cat, Teddy. In support of our local, state, and federal government including CDC directives and to protect the physical health, safety and well-being of our community, only a limited number of guests will be allowed to attend the memorial service. For more information or to make a donation go to www.lilabeanfoundation.com. Memorials I'm not sure if it's too late, but I worked with Scott on several projects over the years. He was a great mechanical engineer, but an even better friend. I always knew he'd be up for having a beer after our meeting was over to get to the real issues and could always count on him to just hang out and talk about the day. I'm still saddened by his passing as he cannot be replaced. He will be missed! ALAN HARMON, FEBRUARY 26, 2021 I first met Scott when we attended Texas Tech. He happened to be my next door neighbor at Coleman Hall freshman year. From that day, our friendship began. We hung out almost every day. We had many good times together as college students would. Lately, I've been thinking a lot about the times we hung out in Lubbock. His news came to a big shock to me and I am deeply saddened. My condolences to Scott and his family. JOSHUA GOMEZ, FEBRUARY 16, 2021 My condolences for your loss Mr. and Mrs. Kelly, Jill, Diana, and Laura. I was Scott's friend and roommate for many years at Tech. He definitely loved his family and always had nice things to say about growing up in your home (he had framed pictures of all you around our place). We all had a blast at the OU vs Tech game in 06 - thanks for including me in that trip to Norman. As visitors we braved the OU student section that day. Scott introduced me to snowboarding, something I enjoy every year now, Tupac, and so many great movies and shows. We balanced our engineering studies with a fun social life. He was dependable, fair, adventurous, and a good friend.. We last saw each other at the Denver airport a few years ago while on business trips and got to
catch up. I am grateful for Scott's friendship during our formative time in college, and wish we were closer than just playing fantasy football in recent years. I will miss him and he's in my prayers, I wish you all the best. MALIC ABUSAWA, FEBRUARY 15, 2021 Thank you for making it possible to be with you all from a distance--we wish we could have been with you. We loved watching the video full of sweet, sweet memories and hearing about his passionate life. As Scott's Godparents, we are heartbroken with you and have been praying that the sweet memories will hold your grief and comfort you as you continue on in this life. God speed Scott Michael Kelly. FRED AND MICHELLE BETZEN, FEBRUARY 15, 2021 Scott had a genuine kindness and openness that was easy to see and very easy to love. Friendly, light-hearted and quick-witted- you could always count on Scotty to bring a fun perspective to the party. It is so clear how much he cared about all the people (and teams and cat!) in his life. Way too soon to say goodbye, I'll always think of Scott with lots of love and his bright smile. Thank you for sharing this today - the words, music and photos were really beautiful. Sending lots of love, prayers and hugs to the whole family. ANN & AARON FRENCH, FEBRUARY 15, 2021 It was a moment I didn’t except when my parents told me. Scott was amazing! I remember our trip to Canada and Scott hitting the candle with a fork. Hugs to you all! The Kelly’s were lucky and still are to have such a great person in the family and to be looking down on us now. BRIDGET KELLY , FEBRUARY 15, 2021 I had the pleasure of working with Scott on the Rangers Ballpark project. I was on the architecture side but we worked together in a trailer out on site for a year. Walking the site, discussing issues to resolve, and most of days all of us that worked in the trailer together would go somewhere for lunch and just get to
know one another. He was a smart, talented, funny and interesting person. I really enjoyed working with him and getting to know him. I am so sorry for your loss. He was so young and full of life and I am thankful that I got to know him. My thoughts are with your family, his friends, and coworkers. DANIEL CAHAK, FEBRUARY 15, 2021 We love you all we mourn with you all and we are here for you all BRIAN KELLY (EMILY AND ABBY), FEBRUARY 15, 2021 I send my condolences to the family. I know the pain from losing a love one can be unbearable but the bible can be a great source of comfort. 2 Corinthians 1:3,4 in that it tells us that God is the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort. The bible also gives us the hope of a resurrection (Acts 24:15). JOR, FEBRUARY 15, 2021 Scott will be forever missed. He was such a great person. I am incredibly heartbroken for your family and I am sorry for this horrible loss. I love you all so much. Love, Caitlin and Family CAITLIN MARTIN, FEBRUARY 15, 2021 Better for having known Scott, and grateful for the times I spent with him. Each conversation with Scott was more engaging than the typical chit-chat. Smart, funny, passionate - interesting and interested in return. Although our conversations were fewer than I’d like - they were memorable and meaningful - a rare gift. It was easy to gather the following truths from my time with Scott: He loved his family - near and far - and loved being with them anywhere. He loved his work and was proud of the projects he was part of. He loved his teams (we agreed on all but one). He loved his interests and hobbies, and embraced them unapologetically. Mickey, Christine, Jill, Diana, and Laura - I’m so sorry for the immense pain you’re suffering. I pray you can find peace and joy in the lifetime of memories you made with Scott. My family will continue to pray for each of you, and especially for Scott’s eternal rest in the glory of Heaven. Jesus, I Trust in You.
MIKE GIROUX (LESTER), FEBRUARY 15, 2021 I always enjoyed my time with Scott as I could always count on his sweet and kind disposition and learning something new. The world will miss out on his discoveries not yet made. He was lucky to be part of the Kelly clan- such a loving and caring family. Sending all my love. LAUREN SANCHEZ, FEBRUARY 15, 2021 It was a lovely service. I only wished I had been there. Hugs to all of you and I hope to see you all soon. This historic winter storm can’t last forever. Love to all. Love you Scott. Karen and David. KAREN LANGWORTHY, FEBRUARY 15, 2021 Kelly Family - What a beautiful service for Scott, the family pictures made my heart so happy. You have a beautiful family that will forever be watched over by Scott. How I know Scott - I had the pleasure of hiring Scott for his first engineering position. Boy was he green but thanks to his persistence and eagerness he quickly grew from "the new guy" to a trusted engineer and someone I saw as a partner in the industry. Scott and I worked hard, side by side, on so many projects, some good ones and some we endlessly complained about and worked hard to forget. After 6 years of working together I got to know Scott not just as an engineer but a person and boy did he have a kind heart. He genuinely cared about the people around him and showed it every chance he got. He was the first person to offer to help. He showed all of his work family the same passion his family knew. It was always fun to hear Scott's strong opinions on food, music, and movie reviews (scary movies specifically). Scott - I've missed you and will forever miss you. Love you Scott. LAUREN BERRY, FEBRUARY 15, 2021 A beautiful service. All the fun and loving photos are testament that Scott was blessed with a wonderful, caring family and a full life. Sending love, strength, and peace.
CASEY RUSSELL, FEBRUARY 15, 2021 What a wonderful memorial to Scott. Watching from Kansas wishing we were there. Our love and sorrow is overwhelming. Wishing we could wrap our arms around them all. Jim Marilyn Gary Bridget and Chris are with me sending our love. And may perpetual light shine upon Scott. LYNN , FEBRUARY 15, 2021 Mickey, Christine, Jill, Diana and Laura, I wish I could be there to celebrate Scott’s life in person. Scott was always so much fun and made us all laugh, his passion for living life to its fullest is what I’ll remember and carry with me throughout my own. Scott was one of the most genuinely good guys out there. When I think of Disney World, our cousin sleepovers/video game wars or antics in Nan’s and Grandy’s basement, I’ll think of Scott with a huge smile. Sending you all so much love and prayers. Love, Julie Shuss JULIE SHUSS, FEBRUARY 15, 2021 We love you Scott. You will be missed by any and all who had the honor to meet you and to know you. You were a remarkable young man, brother, son and nephew. Keep cheering our Chiefs and Royals on to victory since you now have the best seat in the house. You were taken too young. To Chris, Mike, Jill, Diana and Laura - So wish we could have been there for Scott's service today. Please know that it was a lovely service and amazing pictorial of his life which brought back several memories for me. We send you all our love, hugs and hope for some comfort. at ME Engineers, I was relieved to find a fellow geek! Whether we talked about Star Wars or John Williams, he was a refreshing spirit that I loved to be around. MEGAN ROWE, FEBRUARY 15, 2021 Scott, you are cared for by so many. I am so grateful to have known you and share in a deep love for all things Star Wars. Our yearly movie outing was a highlight for me as well as your BB8 robotics in the ME office! It was so evident at how you loved your parents, sisters, and family in how you talked about them. You were proud of their accomplishments and I thoroughly enjoyed hearing about all the adventures and travels you all got to have together. You will be missed! ANNE SCHULTZ, FEBRUARY 15, 2021 I love your family so much. Scott’s service was really beautiful, and I am so sorry I couldn’t attend in person. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. DENISE AND STEVE MCKEE, FEBRUARY 15, 2021 Chris, Mike and family, we are so sorry for your, and our, loss and wish we could be there for you. We will be thinking about you as you say goodbye. Love, David and Brock DAVID AND BROCK ROWE, FEBRUARY 14, 2021 Scott sat at my table in our 11th grade algebra II class. He was a smart, funny, and kind person. We played the card game 13 every day instead of paying attention to Mr. Morris. I paid for it at exam times, Scott did not! I would see him every so often after we both graduated college and we always had a lot of fun. He will be sorely missed. SAMUEL KUNZMAN, FEBRUARY 10, 2021 Mike and Chris, I know there are no words that will take away your pain but I want to let you know that my family and I will be praying for Scott, for you and for your entire family. We pray for the Lord to give you the strength and faith that you all need during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Sincerely, Juan Segura and Family JUAN SEGURA, FEBRUARY 8, 2021 Scott came to us as a new grad, nervous about his engineering abilities and willing to do whatever was asked to make himself useful and to advance. He did quite well becoming a confident and capable engineer with us. He was always a kind soul with diverse interests making him a pleasure to talk to. He is greatly missed.
