Frankston Council’s Community Event of the Year David and Anita Cross were on hand to accept the 2020 Community Event of the Year award on behalf of the Friends of Wallace Reserve at Frankston Council’s Australia Day Ceremony. The award was in recognition of Schools Tree Day, held each year at the reserve in conjunction with Frankston Heights Primary School. David and Anita started the Friends Group in 2005 and in 2007 we approached the school with an idea to celebrate National Schools Tree Day jointly at the reserve, and 13 years later, we’re still at it. Over the years, students have planted around 5,500 seedlings in the reserve in specially prepared areas; as well as tour the reserve and discuss aspects of our natural environment. Anita and David with principal Cheryl and teacher Tai.
