Bangkok, Thailand BANGKOK PRE-TOUR: January 12–15 ....... January 12: Bangkok, Thailand Plan to arrive in the vibrant city of Bangkok on January 12. Expedited through customs and immigration, you will be transferred to the five-star Mandarin Oriental Hotel, centrally located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. This evening, we gather for a welcome reception. ....... January 13: Bangkok Golf: Thai Country Club Our first round of golf is at the exclusive Thai Country Club, eight-time winner of the best course in Thailand and host to many Asian Tour events. All hazards, from scalloped white bunkers to attractive lakes, are evident from the tee box. The variety of challenges presented make this a great first round for our journey. Tour: Grand Palace & Canal Boat Ride Touring passengers depart via canal boat for a tour of the Grand Palace, Thailand’s most sacred site and home to the Emerald Buddha Temple. We continue on our canal tour and visit the Royal Barge Museum, home to the intricate and beautiful barges used in state ceremonies. ....... January 14: Bangkok Golf: Amata Spring Golf Club Amata Spring Golf Club provides one of the best private club experiences in Thailand. The serenity of Amata Spring is impressive, but golfers soon realize that the holes become progressively more challenging, highlighted by a tough island green on 17. Tour: Jim Thompson House The Jim Thompson House is the home of the “Legendary American of Thailand” known for saving Thailand’s silk industry from extinction. In 1967, Jim Thompson traveled to the Cameron Highlands in Malaysia, where he set out for a walk in the surrounding jungle but never returned. Thus began the Jim Thompson legend. Since his disappearance in 1967, little has changed in the home; even today, the charming Thai style house continues to be a key stop for visitors to Bangkok. ....... January 15: Bangkok • Siem Reap, Cambodia This morning is at your leisure to explore Bangkok. In the afternoon, we fly to Siem Reap, Cambodia, to join the start of our main itinerary. Tour price is $2,765 per person, double occupancy, in a Deluxe Room ($3,435 per person for Executive Suite). The price includes three nights at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, breakfasts, welcome dinner, two rounds of golf or two tours, and transfer to and from the Bangkok Airport. Angkor Golf Resort January 15: Siem Reap, Cambodia Plan to arrive in Siem Reap, Cambodia on January 15. Upon arrival at Siem Reap Airport you are transferred to the Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor in the heart of the old French Quarter, where we will stay for three nights. Relax and explore the area until our welcome dinner this evening. If you plan to arrive early in Siem Reap, we are happy to make arrangements for additional nights at the Raffles Grand Hotel and organize private tours of the area. ....... January 16: Siem Reap Golf: Angkor Golf Resort Angkor Golf Resort is the finest golf course in Cambodia, a magnificent layout designed by Nick Faldo. Faldo’s design offers generous fairways with bold bunkering, and the green’s subtle undulations require thoughtful approach shots. Golfers tour the temples at Angkor Wat after golf. Tour: Angkor Wat Today we tour the awe-inspiring Angkor complex, ancient capital of Cambodia and one of the must-see sights in Southeast Asia. Built in the early 12th century in the classical Khmer architectural style, the Angkor Wat temple is the largest in the world, with a volume of stone equal to that of the Great Pyramid in Egypt. ....... January 17: Siem Reap Golf: Siem Reap Booyoung Country Club Surrounded by rice paddies, just 15 minutes outside of Siem Reap, the Booyoung Country Club offers an unhurried round of golf on a course that is always in great condition. Meandering creeks feed lakes that come into play on many holes. Fairways are wide but the greens are well protected with greenside bunkers and delicately shaped water hazards. Tour: Banteay Srei Considered by some to be the most beautiful temple due to its elaborate pink sandstone carvings, Banteay Srei is an interesting contrast in style from the structures of the main Angkor complex. Danang Golf Club January 18: Siem Reap • Danang, Vietnam Today, we transfer by private plane from Siem Reap to Danang, Vietnam, where we check in to our five-star home for the next four nights, The Nam Hai. Located on Hoi An Beach, The Nam Hai is an oasis set amid ancient cultural wonders. This evening, we enjoy a welcome barbecue dinner. ....... January 19: Danang Golf: Montgomerie Links With the Marble Mountains as a backdrop, Montgomerie Links offers an exciting mixture of heathland and modern links-style holes that cater to players of all abilities. Golfers have a guided tour of Hoi An after their round. Tour: Hoi An and Red Bridge Cooking School In Hoi An, merchants from around the world have met for centuries and a multi-cultural influence is apparent throughout this ancient community. Chefs from Red Bridge Restaurant guide our group through the market, helping to select fresh ingredients, which we will use in a hands-on Vietnamese cooking class. Our tour includes a delicious lunch at this beautiful waterfront location. ....... January 20: Danang Golf: Danang Golf Club The championship Dunes course at Danang Golf Resort, designed by Greg Norman, annually vies with Montgomerie Links to be named #1 in Vietnam. The natural terrain and sand dunes are reminiscent of many Scottish courses, and the signature 16th hole is nestled into the dunes overlooking China Beach. Tour: Countryside Bicycle Tour We take a leisurely bicycle tour through the village of Cam Thanh and its neighboring rice fields to see Vietnam’s rural culture in action. We visit a local elementary school and get an interactive glimpse of everyday life in Vietnam. ....... January 21: Danang Golf: Laguna Lang Designed by Nick Faldo and opened in 2013, Laguna Lang flows beautifully through its natural surroundings, from rugged jungle to pristine beaches with rice paddies in between. The views are breathtaking at every turn, and risk/reward strategic choices are many. Tour: Hue Today, we visit Hue, the ancient imperial capital of Vietnam. Van Tri Golf Club ....... January 22: Danang • Hanoi, Vietnam We fly by private aircraft to Hanoi, Vietnam, and are transferred to the wonderful colonial French Sofitel Legend Metropole Hotel, where we stay for the remainder of our journey. After check-in, we venture out to a private water puppet show, a cultural tradition since the 11th century, and enjoy a traditional Vietnamese dinner. ....... January 23: Hanoi Golf: Van Tri Golf Club Our final round of golf is at the most exclusive private golf club in Vietnam. Van Tri was laid out with visually appealing holes that offer surprises at every turn. Stone, vibrant colors, trees and grasses shape a delightfully challenging course. Van Tri Golf Club provides a fitting and classic finish to our golf line up. Tour: Hanoi Old Quarter Touring passengers are treated to a fascinating trip through 36 Streets District, the city’s main shopping area. Goods were once traded here under the street name of a guild, and the themes remain the same, such as Sugar Street and Paper Street. We enjoy a local lunch in the nearby Hoan Kiem district. ....... January 24: Hanoi Today, we explore Hanoi, a city of contrasts, from its colonial French architecture to Vietnamese pagodas, tranquil green parks to bustling streets. Our tour takes us to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the rustic home where he lived his final years. We visit the unique One Pillar Pagoda, dating from 1049 and the Temple of Literature, dedicated to the cult of Confucious. We also stop at the Hoa Lo Prison, known by its American inmates as the “Hanoi Hilton.” .......
