Your Trek Travel guides will meet you at the Nice Train Station (Gare de Nice-Ville, Avenue Thiers, 06008 Nice, France) at 11:30 AM on the first day of your Etape du Tour trip. After a brief transfer to your hotel in Vence and initial introductions, you will enjoy lunch at the hotel. Afterward, your guides will familiarize you with your Trek bike and ensure a perfect fit, before a scenic loop ride on winding roads to the small village of Châteauneuf- Grasse. You can also choose to make yourself comfortable at the hotel as you prepare for the week ahead and watch the 2021 Tour stage on TV. Start your day with a café au lait before heading out for a ride that boasts spectacular roads and sprawling vistas. Our route starts up the Col du Vence, with a gentle 5% grade that warms up the legs and prepares you for the Alpes-Maritimes ahead. Enjoy a well-deserved descent and follow the Esteron River to Roquestéron-Grasse, a charming medieval village perched in the mountains. Explore the winding streets to find a lunch of your choice before we spin back to the hotel. Or, feel free to hop aboard the van for a quick shuttle back. This evening, we'll shuttle into Vence to explore its historic center, which dates back to the 13th century, to enjoy dinner together at a charming local bistro and toast another successful day. This climb will be sure to catch your attention! Enjoy the views as the road ascends eight miles before summiting and soak in the thrilling descent back to Gourdon. Continue riding to the Cascades du Sault de Loup, one of the most beautiful waterfalls of the region. We'll stop for a sandwich and walk to the gorge to view this resplendent waterfall. This evening, we'll enjoy a group dinner at the hotel. Tomorrow brings a lot of excitement with a preview of the final climb of the racecourse and our 1st night in Nice, so be sure to rest up! HOTEL: INCLUDED MEALS: Cantemerle Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner TODAY'S RIDE: Day Nice to Col D'Èze and Col de la Madone Loop TODAY'S ACTIVITY: Approximately 42 miles with 5,900 R ide the Col d'Èze just day s feet of climbing before the race 4 DESCRIPTION: Today's ride starts with an hour-long shuttle to Nice. Enjoy a short warm up before tackling the Col d’Èze. One of the most iconic of the Alpes-Maritimes cols, this climb is six miles long and with an average 4.7% gradient. It has a long race history and has been used as the decisive time trial of the Paris-Nice stage race since 1969. Preview this final climb of the Etape du Tour race route and admire stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea before descending to the base of the Col de la Madone, made famous by Trek Bikes when they named their bike the ‘Madone” after it. The climb starts at sea level in the seaside town of Menton before paralleling the Italian border and heading west at the small village of Sainte-Agnès. As the road narrows, the views are spectacular all the way to the top. Pause for a snack and take in the panorama before descending into Nice and our perfectly hotel located in the heart of the city. You’ll rise early this morning, fuel up with a hearty breakfast, and ride to the start line to take your place among thousands of other riders who will all chase history together. Your Trek Travel support team will be available at strategically-located private rest stops to provide you with tasty nourishment and encouragement. This much-needed support will keep you motivated and fueled for your ride and keep you out of the long lines at the official race stops. First, you’ll ascend the Col de Colmiane, then prepare for a gorgeous descent into La Bollène-Vésubie before attacking the next climb, Col de Turini, made famous as a stage of the Monte Carlo Rally and one of the most scenic roads in France. Hold on tight for a long descent into Nice and the final climb of the day up the Col d'Èze in the closing miles of the course.
