Term1– Issue 3. 26th March 2021 08 79695600 www.mtcpsnt.catholic.edu.au admin.motherteresa@nt.catholic.edu.au 16 Ginger Road, Zuccoli NT, Australia https://www.facebook.com/motherteresaNT/ Principal Message Dear Families, As we prepare to take a short break from school, I want to express my gratitude for everyone who makes it possible for as many students as possible to come to school every day, on time, ready to learn. Our students and families make daily attendance a priority since they know the habit of attendance will help them do well in the classroom and eventually in a job. Our wonderful teachers who pour their energy into making each classroom an exciting place for exploration and knowledge so children do not want to miss out on learning. Our support staff who provide the extra hands and attention our children need. We appreciate each one of you so much. Sometimes, absences are unavoidable. When this happens Mother Teresa and parents have pivotal roles to play in protecting the safety and well-being of children through the reporting and monitoring of absenteeism. Parents/carers have an obligation to notify the school of their child’s absence and schools are required to notify parents/carers on the day of an unexplained student absence. This responsibility needs to be underpinned by shared understandings and expectations about the procedures for the promotion, monitoring and follow-up of student attendance. In an effort to achieve this shared understanding during 2021 the leadership team has been compiling a student attendance procedure which outlines all the steps to be taken in regards to monitoring attendance. This procedure will also be sent out as an attachment in our last newsletter of Term 1 and be uploaded to the school website. In finishing, Mother Teresa staff would like to especially acknowledge everyone’s efforts to avoid taking extra days off before and after the holidays. Just a few missed days here and there, even if they’re excused absences, can add up to too much lost learning time and leave your child behind in school. This is as true in kindergarten as it is in secondary school. Reuben Johnson Principal Dates to remember: Parent Teacher Interviews are being held week 9. Monday the 29th and Tuesday the 30th. Inclusion Support Welcome to all our new families, For the benefit of the new families we are sharing what our Inclusion services can offer. At Mother Teresa Catholic Primary School we recognise that everyone has their own culture, beliefs, values and strengths contributing to our rich and diverse community. We embrace and advocate for the rights of all children to access and actively participate in our programs and have a sense of truly belonging. The Inclusion Support program supports children with low, moderate or high needs in areas of social, emotional, cognitive, behavioural and physical learning. In inquiry, Year 3&4 are learning about how we look after our bodies through healthy food and exercise. Tammy from Tammy’s Fitness Training & Phil from Phil Purg NT BPT are group fitness and personal trainer. We were privileged enough to have Tammy & Phil come on two separate occasions and teach the 3/4 cohort some physical activities and the benefits it has for our bodies both physically and mentally. THANK YOU Tammy & Phil. After much deliberation and discernment both Mrs Mandall and Miss Dimond have decided to resign from their roles at Mother Teresa and return to be with their families in WA & SA. I am sure you will join with me in wishing them all the best.
