Hurricane Season is upon us again… Here are somethings to keep in mind for the season For more information and disaster planning checklists, check out the QR code on the second page. PREPARING FOR A DISASTER You are responsible for your own safety and security. When you first occupy your condominium/HOA: Select a safe room – an interior room or closet or an area without windows where you should go in the event of a hurricane or tornado. Review your Insurance Policy to ensure you have an HO6 policy. (An HO-6 policy is like a regular homeowner’s policy, but for a condominium unit, and with a lot more extras. HO-6 insurance policies cover the interior of the unit and personal property inside–commonly known as “studs in” or “walls in” coverage) Make a Plan! (If you have special needs, research your options and arrange early) Kings Point is not in a Hillsborough County designated Evacuation Zone. County area shelters are for county resident who must evacuate from designated Evacuation Zones. If you or a family member has special needs with a medical condition that may require the use of electrical equipment, oxygen, dialysis, or is an individual with a physical, cognitive or medical condition that may require assistance from medical professionals you should immediately complete the Hillsborough County Health Department Shelter Evaluation Form. HURRICANE FORECAST When a hurricane is forecasted: Take the actions and gather or obtain the supplies and equipment shown below. Keep in mind that most of your neighbors will most likely be getting the same materials, so don’t delay. Depending on your personal situation such as health, mobility and the availability of transportation, you should already have in mind whether you will evacuate, go to a shelter or stay in place in your condominium. ACTIONS Communications - charge all devices – telephones, iPads, iPods, Laptop computers, Tablets, solar lamps etc. Fuel - Fill your car’s gas tank, fill fuel can for generator, fill grill propane tanks – (Do not use grills indoors!) Charge your golf car. Identify the locations and directions to the Hillsborough County designated shelters for our area. Research criteria, rules and regulations and restrictions for each shelter (e.g. pets allowed, etc.). Monitor both your NOAA Weather Radio, AM/FM radio and TV, where storm path, storm threats and other emergency information will be reported Review your plans regarding what you will do if a Hurricane Watch is issued – stay in place, evacuate, or go to a Special Needs Shelter.
