The Peel District School Board’s Promotion Process Information Session What You Need To Know Monday, May 13, 2019 HJA Brown Education Centre 1
ON-LINE SUBMISSION PROCESS! Timelines will be available online . . . The application is due on Tuesday, November 4 no later than noon!
2019-2020 Promotion Process Information Successful candidates remain in the pool for three years. After three years – if not placed then individuals would need to reapply. For the upcoming school year, we will not know until the Fall if all four positions (EVP, EP, SVP, SP) will be posted for application.
The Process: An Overview The Package Screening of the Package The Interview (if screening successful)
Submitting the Package 1) Electronic submission of packages and the distribution to screening and interviews teams. 2) Screening will consist of 3 references checks, Leadership Framework and the Readiness Essay. 3) A score of 75 out of 100 is required to move on to an interview.
Coming for the Fall of 2019 will be the requirement to have Special Education Part One on your OCT for Vice-Principal candidates.

Developmental Continuum This tool has been designed to: • link and align School Success Planning and leadership development • honour the developmental continuum of leadership growth • promote reflection of leadership development • identify within the five domains, areas of strength and next steps • provide a common language for conversation and descriptive feedback
Personal Leadership Resources “Effective leaders tend to possess a small but critical number of personal leadership resources that they draw on when enacting the leadership practices identified in this framework. These resources are applied by effective school leaders as needed across each of the five domains under Leadership for Learning, Climate for Learning and Working, and Teaching and Learning and play a key role in considering readiness for promotion.”

Readiness for Leadership Prompt The Prompt “Successful school leaders build collaborative teaching and learning cultures and contribute to a positive climate for learning and working. For one recent location, illustrate how your unique leadership style enabled you to positively impact student achievement and well-being within a diverse school community and affect a change that has outlived your direct leadership influence.”
Written Response to Leadership Prompt This written submission will be assessed and used as one tool in determining leadership readiness. The format of your submission must: • be no more than two pages • be double-spaced • use Arial, size 10 font • clearly include the prompt at the top of the first page Your submission will be critiqued on: • your leadership capacity in action as it positively impacts student achievement and well-being • your ability to work effectively within a diverse school community • your ability to affect change that outlives your direct leadership influence • your written communication skills (must be coherent, demonstrate logical development and contain no errors)

Screening A screening team will review your package to ensure it includes all of the required sections. All applicants will be assessed using established criteria and guidelines. Applicants who hold the skills, experience and qualifications will be invited to participate in the interview process. Candidate must ensure that the application package is complete and submitted by the deadline November 4, 2019

Presentations and Interview The interviewing team will be comprised of trustees, superintendents and a representative from the appropriate Peel vice-principal/principal association. We will provide employment accommodation (i.e. an accessible location, rescheduling of interviews that fall on holy days) if we are advised of an applicant's needs in advance of any part of the selection process. Candidates are required to prepare and speak to the prepared prompt “Please discuss your leadership experiences and how they have prepared you for the role of P/VP with a focus on the Personal Leadership Resources found in the Peel Leadership Framework. (5-7 minutes) The interview team will ask candidates five questions one from each domain and may probe for further information through follow- up questions. This meeting will last about 40 minutes.

Feedback and Exit Survey Feedback is offered to all candidates at all stages of the promotion process. Applicants will be contacted by a member of the interview team or representative following either the screening or final interview stage. All candidates who submit a package will be invited to complete an on-line exit survey.

Application process for the position of Acting Vice-Principal Through annual learning plan conversations, school and central administrators will promote this initiative to interested and qualified staff and direct them to complete the application package housed on the LDSS portal (https://intranet.peelschools.org/ldss/leadership/aspiring/Page s/default.aspx). LDSS applications will be screened by a team of central administrators led by the School Support Officer - Leadership using co-constructed tools. The list of interested and qualified staff will be maintained for two years; candidates would need to re-apply after two years on the list.
Acting Vice-Principal Process To apply for the position of acting Vice-Principal, candidates must have: • Completed seven years of successful teaching experience as a full-time permanent teacher within a recognized education institution. • Part 1 of the Principal’s Qualification Program. • A current teacher performance appraisal (within last 5 years). • Demonstrated experience with special education policies and procedures (e.g., Member of ISRC / School IPRC) and/or Special Education Part 1. • Demonstrated experience in differentiating instruction for students. • Demonstrated leadership ability in their school and/or beyond the school. • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a diverse school community. • A completed and signed Reference Check Consent form (use form attached).
Candidate should have: • Served as a Teacher-in-Charge over the course of one year, or completed Teacher-In-Charge Modules. • Chaired, co-chaired, or been an integral member of, a school success team within past 2 years, or held a central support position. • Leadership experience in promoting and applying equity and inclusion education and culturally responsive decision- making in the classroom, school, or system level. • Successful experience or training with Restorative Practices, Tribes, or other relevant conflict / mediation strategies. • Rich and varied teaching experiences within the panel (elementary or secondary) being applied to. • The intention of going through the Vice-Principal process within two years of applying for Acting Vice-Principal.
