Can’t believe I’m writing February already – wasn’t it just Christmas?? And today, January 6th, when I’m writing this for the Jan. 9th deadline for the February issue, it’s actually ‘Little Christmas’ in some cultures. We always leave our decorations up until after this day, but may do it longer this year, due to Covid and cancellations and another strange beginning to a New Year – I think we’ve learned to live with whatever happens, like it or not. Helping Hands isn’t happy with what’s going on, but we all have to deal with it as best we can – here is a message from our president, Dominic Tangredi: To: Residents of Leisure Knoll From: Helping Hands Officers The year 2021 has created a major problem for all of us. 2022, I hope, will be better for all of us. After speaking to our officers, we decided to cancel any activities for January due to the increased COVID problems happening in Ocean County. That included our blood testing program and the open meeting. We want our residents to be able to come out without fear of getting COVID. The supply center remains open by appointment only by calling Marilyn Larsen or Dominic Tangredi. Their respective phone numbers are in the Knoll phone book. We were unable to sell our Christmas Cards because of the building shutdown in November. We decided to donate our Christmas Cards for Arista Care patients. We brought them approximately 150 cards, one for each resident. We also donated 60 cards to 21Plus Foundation Inc. (A non-profit group) They manage seven group homes for challenged adults. In December we purchased 30 Poinsettia’s Plants, and Claire Miehle and her elves delivered them to our Leisure Knoll residents who are homebound. We have received many thank you notes from the recipients. As of now we will be having blood testing on Friday February 11th from 8 to 10AM. The office will be occupied with our volunteers Monday through Friday from 1 to 3PM. Happy New Year to all, Dominic Tangredi, President of Helping Hands Our Ring-a-Bell program continues as usual, with phone calls made by our volunteers to residents on our list of those who are called on a daily basis. Please contact us at 732-657-7269 if you wish to be put on the list to have someone call you each morning with a friendly greeting!! The office will be open soon with our selection of greeting cards at 10 cents each, as well as information on services available in our area. We will try to reschedule the Covid booster shots as well, as soon as we are able. As we move into 2022, we hope to be resuming our regular monthly meetings on the second Friday of the month, from 1-3PM in the PAC, with our usual gathering beforehand with coffee and snacks at 12:30PM – we welcome you to join us in the new year and learn about our club and see how we can help each other. We look forward to seeing you again soon. In the meantime, be helping hands for each other. ad#7053 36 The Knoll News - February 2022 BULLETIN

Ren Selvaggio Cookie Jar Greetings to all our Leisure Knoll neighbors from the Volunteers at the Ren Selvaggio Cookie Jar. The year 2021 will probably not be remembered by the majority of us as our most memorable year. We all have experienced bumps in the road along the way. With Covid still very much with us and the never ending flow of information on it bombarding us on a daily basis, it has been exhausting. Despite all of it, we have remained diligent in our efforts to protect ourselves from Covid. We have taken the precautions we know have worked over the past two years and because of that we are all here and are thankful for that. It is not all Doom and Gloom. We know what works. The future will be brighter, and we will all be able to look back and know that we got thru it. So, get up and get out and about and do the things you enjoy. We are a resilient bunch that do not give up. Be Safe. A FEW GENTLE REMINDERS: CARDBOARD BOXES: We are still experiencing large numbers of cardboard boxes being brought to the trailer not broken down and flattened. This makes a lot of extra work for our Volunteers. Our Volunteers are your neighbors giving of their time to benefit our community. Please respect their efforts and do your part to comply with this simple request. A little effort on the part of everyone will make the job of our Volunteers that much easier. Packing materials in the boxes should be placed in your household garbage. LOOSE NEWSPAPERS: We have had this issue in the past. You were all doing very well tying your newspapers in manageable bundles. Lately we are getting more and more loose papers in plastic bags, brown bags and loose newspapers just being dumped into the baskets at the end of the trailer. This is unacceptable. Please get back to tying the newspapers in manageable bundles. We offer balls of twine for sale at the office. The cost is $1 each. This price is less than we are paying for them, but we are trying to make it as easy as possible on our homeowners. NOTE OF CAUTION: Please do not enter the cardboard trailer with your cardboard. Baskets are provided at the end of the trailer to place your cardboard in. The floor of the trailer can be moist and wet and can cause a fall which could result in serious injury. The health and wellbeing of our homeowners is our number one concern. With winter here and inclement weather possible there will be times when we will close the doors of the trailers until the area around the trailers is cleaned up and made safe. Please do not dump your recyclables outside the trailer doors. Keep them in your vehicle until the trailer doors are reopened. NEW VOLUNTEERS: We have had two homeowners join our Volunteers. Joe Hodapp and Roger Brownlee. We are very thankful for your help. Welcome Gentlemen. We at the Ren Selvaggio Cookie Jar wish all our homeowners a HEALTHY and HAPPY 2022. May this NEW YEAR bring many blessings your way. RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED JOHN MC CARTHY, TREASURER. February 2022 - The Knoll News 41
