Welcome! Welcome to the comprehensive High School guide regarding post-secondary applications. This guide contains important application deadlines, acceptance dates and when you are required to make a final decision. You will also find tips to enhance your university applications and solidify your decisions. Furthermore, the guide contains several useful links including university stories from other Canadian university students where they talk about their experience. We hope you can use these resources to the best of your abilities and remember to consider all important factors when making your final decision! Important Deadlines ● High school supplementary application deadlines: The deadline for university applications is January 15th, and the earliest date to submit applications is November 15th. All applications to Canadian universities are submitted through a central online portal, known as the Ontario Universities Application Centre or OUAC. The website is linked below, in the resources section. ● Early, regular and late acceptance dates: The earliest possible date of acceptance from a university is February 1st. Regular acceptance takes place from March - late April The latest date by which you can be accepted to a university is May 27th. ● When you receive your letter from the university, there are three responses that you may potentially receive: An offer of admission A refusal of admission A conditional offer of admission contingent upon the reciept of additinal information ● When to make the final decision: The earliest date an Ontario high school student may be required to respond to an Ontario university offer of admission is June 1st. @csrcharity 1

Top 10 tips for university applications and making a decision ● Talk to your guidance counsellor to get the most relevant and up-to-date information. You can even try getting in touch with a university advisor from the university you hope to attend. ● Take quizzes to understand your strengths, weaknesses, and interests. This can help you decide which program you should apply for. Some university programs will be a better fit for your strengths and weaknesses. ● Look at the university courses that will be offered in fourth year(as these are usually the more comprehensive and detailed courses). This can be found in the academic calendar for each university. Do they interest you? ● Have someone look over your university application. A second opinion may be beneficial! ● Talk to other students from your chosen program and university ● Attend university tours, they let you get a feel of the campus environment and whether it is a fit for you! ● Look into people who have graduated from that program on LinkedIn. See what kind of jobs they have. Does this interest you? ● Make sure you read the requirements thoroughly! ● Dedicate some extra time for you to check over your application. You will be surprised by the mistakes you can find after waiting a day or two. ● Every university application is different but they may require you to have a list of references, complete a video interview, essay questions and/ request a list of your extracurricular activities. How to decide on which university to attend Every university differs in the quality of the programs they offer. For example,one university may be the best for engineering, while another may be the best for psychology.
