Faith Formation and Education SAINT ANNE PARISH SCHOOL NEWS WE ARE OFF TO A GREAT BEGINNING!! Dear People of Saint Anne Community, On behalf of the entire faculty and staff, welcome to the start of a wonderful, new school year here at Saint Anne Parish School! I pray that everyone feels refreshed, renewed and ready for an exciting year of growth and learning. It was great to see so many people at Meet the Teacher Sunday! The attendance and participation at Mass set the stage for a wonderful start to a new year. Pride filled the church, and the positive energy and enthusiasm was felt by all. A special thank you to our parents who assisted in the planning of this fabulous celebration. We had many helping hands including our representatives from our School Advisory Board and Home & School Association. Tuesday was a great first full day! We celebrated with a Welcome Back Prayer Service attended by many parents and our 2nd through 8th grade students. While our returning students got reacquainted after summer break, we welcomed many new students! I am confident they will feel welcome and a part of this vibrant faith community. On Tuesday evening, under the direction of our Early Childhood Director, Mrs. Nancy Meehan, we welcomed our preschool parents at our Preschool Information Night. This gave our Early Childhood team, Mrs. Nancy Meehan, Mrs. Becki Cole, Ms. Kathleen Holmberg, Mrs. Amy Parks, Mrs. Anna Zasada and their instructional assistants, the opportunity to share curriculum-related information with specifics to our early childhood program. We look forward to having all of our youngest Cardinals in the building with us. Father Bernie, Mrs. Margaret Buckstaff and I, along with the faculty and staff, continue to work to provide an opti- mal, identifiably Catholic school community wherein we work in partnership with our parish and parents to raise faith-filled children. We are really excited about the endless possibilities that a new school year brings. Every day thus far has been filled with laughter, joy, prayer and a positive energy which fills the hallways and class- rooms of Saint Anne Parish School. It has been a great week for all of us!!! With anticipation of a wonderful year, Mrs. Dawn Kapka, Principal Saint Anne Church • August 31, 2014 • stannebarrington.org 9
Faith Formation and Education AN INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN COMMUNITY EVENTS As people of faith, we seek to educate our children in our Catholic traditions and doctrine. Does our faith formation end with First Eucharist or Confirmation? Sacraments are not meant to be goals; they are milestones along our life’s faith journey, moments to be celebrated as be- ginnings of new aspects of our lives that are made richer by having received the sacrament. Our faith journey continues beyond these sacramental celebrations as our relationship with God grows and deepens. So how do we continue this journey beyond sacraments and commit ourselves as households and individuals to a fuller, richer faith life in community with others? Saint Anne Commu- nity Events bring people of all ages and life stages together to learn and share their faith. Adults, teens, children – empty nesters, singles and families are all encouraged to participate. In conjunction with the Archdiocesan Year of the Sacraments, our focus in the coming year will be on exploring each of the sacraments. In February, we will present a Parish Mission for all to participate in on Monday, February 2nd-Wednesday, February 4th, 2015; further details will be available closer to the mission dates. In response to participant feedback seeking a session where there is no school the next day, we have arranged the schedule for the upcoming year to include Fridays. Worship WEDDING FAIR Planning a wedding at Saint Anne or for a family member? Just want to get out for an evening of beautiful music? Brides-and-grooms-to-be and their significant others are especially invited to Saint Anne Wedding Liturgy and Mu- sic Fair, to be held in the chapel on Monday, September 22nd, from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. Our prospective wedding couples will hear a brief ‘FAQ’ about parish and archdioce- san music guidelines and then hear selections from forty or so pieces of music as a cross-section of options for the wedding. Providing music will be a string quartet, trumpet and flute, along with Terry Donohoo, representing our cantors and Rory playing keyboard and singing. This will be an enjoyable and indispensable opportunity to pre- pare for the wedding ceremony. Prospective brides and/or grooms should R.S.V.P. to the liturgy office at 847.620.3064 or by email to rcooney@stannebarrington.org so that we can prepare enough handouts. There is no charge for this evening. And all are welcome, even if you are not getting married! FIRST SATURDAY DEVOTION How joyful and grateful Saint Anne and Saint Joachim must have been at the birth of their long awaited child – Mary. Little did they know that their precious child was determined to participate in God’s loving plan for our Redemption. God celebrated Mary’s birth! In September, the Church celebrates Mary’s birth. Let us also be celebrants of her birth. As loving children of the Mother of God, please remain after the 8:15 a.m. Mass on Saturday, September 6th to pray the Rosary and honor Mary, who is the cause of our joy. Human Concerns MICHAEL JOSEPH BENEFIT The 22nd annual Michael Joseph Foundation Dinner and Auction will be held Saturday, October 4th, at the Sanfilippo Estate in Barrington Hills. In response to an increasing number of homeless families due to job loss, serious illness or other personal tragedies, the Michael Joseph Founda- tion is dedicated to providing transitional housing to families in crisis. Thus far, we have helped over 650 families in local counties. The annual event is hosted by its executive board and fund raising committees which are 100% volunteers and based in Barrington. In a cooperative effort aimed at building self esteem and ultimately self reliance, the foundation not only provides housing but works with Catholic Charities, CEDA, WINGS and others as they assess client’s needs to appropriately provide counseling and job training skills. For invitations or more information on the benefit to support families in crisis, please contact Ida Cardelli at 847.639.2334 or visit our website at www.michaeljosephfoundation.org.
