   Q & A with Willard R. Kitchens
Supreme Governor Willard R. Kitchens is already on the road visiting lodges
and spreading his positivity for the Fraternity wherever he goes. Moose Magazine

What led you to join Prattville, AL Lodge 1864 in 1982?
I had retired from the Navy and received an offer to work in the civil service to

communities.”
          — Willard R. Kitchens Why is it important to do the things you hope to do as
      2017-18 Supreme Governor Supreme Governor?
We have two institutions that we support as a Fraternity: Mooseheart and
Moosehaven. If we are going to continue to support them, we have to get back
to fraternalism and get back to the basics in our local communities. We need to
inform everyone that we are a fraternal organization. The public image of the
Moose in too many towns is that we are the bar down the road, and we need to
change that view because it’s not what we are.

What are your hopes for the future of the Moose?
I think we have a great future. In a recent Supreme Council meeting, we discussed
on our last day the things we need to do in order to make our Fraternity great
again. I watched and listened and it made me feel so good to think about the things
that these men had to say about the Moose. We have some great talent in the
Fraternity and I think it’s in great hands. I think there is also great talent coming
into this organization to continue to help it grow. „

Wiebe said the Moose needs to adjust swiftly to this new reality, because
organizations with steeped traditions have found themselves in worse shape.
As an example, he mentioned Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey, the world-
renowned circus that ceased operation in 2017 after 150 years in operation, and
an organization for which Wiebe worked.
The good news, Wiebe said, is that the Moose is progressing as an organization

and expect to see gains – so we haven’t,” Wiebe said.
As proof, Wiebe mentioned the First Responders/Active Military membership
campaign, a promotion through which more than 11,000 members have joined the
                                         Fraternity.
