The Paris Olympic Games. Two young track athletes who live for the beautiful purity of running and who prevail in the face of overwhelming odds. Based on the extraordinary true story of Eric Liddell and Harold Abrahams, and the Oscar- winning film, Mark Bartlett’s Chariots of Fire is an Olympic tale of hope, honour and belief. For this year’s senior Rattigan Society production, girls from St Dominic’s Sixth Form College join a large ensemble cast in a Ryan Theatre auditorium reconfigured to capture the drama of the race! Adam Cross, Director of Drama, directs. THE GROVE AND LYON’S HOUSE PLAY: METAMORPHOSES Thursday 10 and Friday 11 March 7.30pm – Ryan Theatre Stranded by floods, Theseus and his men take shelter in the subterranean home of a river god. They pass the evening telling tales. The Grove and Lyon’s join forces in an adaptation of Ovid’s subversive epic in which mythological stories are woven together with the common theme of change. Friday 14 January 7.30pm – Speech Room Although Schubert only lived for one and a half years after the death of Beethoven in 1827, he composed some of his finest and most transcendental music in that time. Music that truly could have been written by Beethoven in Heaven. This concert shows, through music for violin and piano, that transition of Schubert from disciple to master.
