Welcome to TAS TAS PRINCIPAL, DR RACHEL HORTON Since its inception, the TAS Rugby Carnival has grown to become the largest primary- aged rugby carnival in Australia. This year, we are thrilled to host it again and, for the first time, include U14 and U16 girls Sevens in the tournament. It is a pleasure to welcome so many players, coaches, parents and supporters willing to travel what is for many, a considerable distance, to help celebrate all that is good in junior rugby. Rugby has a special reputation for forging bonds between players from distant parts and different cultures and backgrounds and we are proud that this carnival creates a great opportunity for the camaraderie and sharing of spirit that the Rachel Horton game is famous for. The values of rugby - integrity, passion, solidarity, discipline and respect wiil no doubt be reflected both on and off field this weekend. This is also a very important event for the Armidale community and we thank the sponsors, organisers and volunteers for their efforts in making this possible. Particular thanks to Canterbury Sport who is our carnival sponsor again in 2022. All the best to players and their supporters for an enjoyable weekend. TAS DIRECTOR OF CO-CURRICULAR, HUON BARRETT Since 2005 the TAS Rugby Carnival has provided an opportunity for junior rugby players and their parents to experience and celebrate the camaraderie, teamwork and sportsmanship that rugby offers. The Carnival has always been about young people having fun, experiencing rugby and meeting people in a carnival atmosphere. Over the years, many friendships have been made and strengthened on the playing fields and on the sidelines. The inaugural Carnival attracted 18 teams and some 360 players and in 2019 the Carnival hosted 51 teams and over 1000 players from all around Australia - our largest Carnival to date. Sadly due to COVID-19 the 2020 Carnival was cancelled and in 2021 the TAS Rugby Carnival continued as a smaller NSW Regional Huon Barrett Carnival. In 2022 we are back again with 46 teams which includes 31 U12 teams and the introduction of girls Sevens with 15 teams. For all of us at TAS the Carnival is also part of our inclusive and broad co-curricular program, one that includes sport, the creative arts, public speaking and debating and student clubs that engage young people to find their passion in life. The TAS Rugby Carnival also reaffirms our commitment and passion to positive community engagement and your attendance and support is greatly appreciated by us all. Thank you for being a part of the 2022 TAS Rugby Carnival and we hope to see you again next year. 2
