What are Home-School Partnerships? Family-school partnerships are collaborative relationships. Effective partnerships are based on mutual trust, respect and shared responsibility for the education of the children at school.
The Goal of Home-School Partnerships Encourage ongoing and effective partnerships between all members of the school community, parents, families, and students. These partnerships should ● share responsibility for student learning ● respect student needs ● address obstacles that could limit family engagement in schools ● give parents and families appropriate opportunities to contribute to school decision- making
Priorities of Family-School Partnership Communication involves not only an exchange of information, but also an opportunity for schools and families to learn from each other. Connecting learning at home and at school involves families and schools recognizing and using learning opportunities in the home environment.
Priorities of Family-School Partnership Building Relationships involves schools acting as a focal point for communities to come together and engage in the improvement of students’ academic achievement. Recognizing the role of the family as the child’s first teacher. Decision-Making ensures that parents and families participate in decisions concerning their own children.
