FUNDRAISING EVENTS Hosting a fundraising event gives you a unique opportunity to educate your donors face to face on Your Velocity’s mission: to solve cancer. They are also a ton of fun! Below are steps to take whether you’re hosting a socially-distanced or virtual fundraiser. And remember that Coach Dan is available to help if you get stuck planning. How To Host A Fundraising Event STEP 1:CHOOSE YOUR EVENT Think about what you and your friends already like to do. Fitness classes? Paint Nights? Game Nights? Many things that you love to do with your friends can be turned into a fundraising event if you get creative! (Check the list below for some great ideas!) STEP 2: IDENTIFY YOUR REVENUE STREAM How will this event raise money? Will you charge an entry fee? If so, will participants donate at the time of your event or beforehand? STEP 3: CHOOSE WHERE YOU’LL HOST YOUR EVENT Are you going to host a socially-distanced or virtual fundraising event? Will you be at a park? Your backyard? Will you use Zoom? Facebook Live? There are various ways to responsibly host a socially-distanced event or platforms that can be used to stream and connect with your audience. Your fundraising coach can help you identify which of these ideas are best for you if you need some help! STEP 4: INVITE YOUR GUESTS The type of event you have will determine the number of attendees you need to make it successful. Either way, you’ll want to invite your family and friends. Create a Facebook event, and send e-vites or physical invitations. Word of mouth is great, but you’ll need to do some leg work as well! STEP 5: HAVE FUN! Hosting an event can be stressful. You have taken on a big challenge and will make such a great impact this season – but make sure you take some time during your fundraiser to celebrate your accomplishments with your family and friends! BONUS TIP: USE OUR CUSTOM YOUR VELOCITY ZOOM VelocityRide.org BACKGROUND! Make your virtual event stand out with the custom Your Velocity Zoom background provided to you with your fundraising tools. This is an easy way to keep your event looking professional and on brand!
FUNDRAISING EVENT IDEAS • Fitness Fundraisers- Approach your gym (or yoga studio, or spin studio, or Zumba teacher, or martial arts school…) to see if a teacher would be willing to volunteer their time to host a virtual or socially-distanced class. Charge admission, in the form of donations to your fundraising page. • Game Night- Host a virtual game night with friends and family. Each team can donate to your fundraising page while you have fun playing games like trivia, bingo, and pictionary! • Meals/Baked Goods At Your Door- Put your cooking or baking skills to work. Create to-go treat boxes or meal kits and offer to deliver to friends, family, co-workers or neighbors in return for a donation to your fundraising page. • Virtual Concert/Talent Show- Host a virtual or socially-distanced concert or talent show where you and your friends can show off your creative skills! Whether you play an instrument, sing, or dance you can do what you do best and ask viewers for a donation in exchange for providing live entertainment.
UNIQUE INDIVIDUAL FUNDRAISING IDEAS • Incentivized Donations- If you are particularly talented at something artistic, provide donors with the opportunity to receive a thank you gift for donating beyond a certain threshold. For example, if somebody donates $20 or more, give them a handmade keychain or if somebody donates $50 or more, give them a custom painting or drawing. • Pledge per Mile/Minute- Ask people to sponsor your walks, runs, rides or any other activity of your choice. Ask someone to sponsor you at $1 per mile and if you run a total of 25 miles- that’s a $25 donation right there! • Donation Bingo- Post this donation bingo card on your Facebook page with the link to your fundraising page! As people donate to your page, mark off the corresponding square with their name to show your gratitude. Feel free to use this post below: “Now through October 3rd I will be [INSERT ACTIVITY] to raise critical funds for the incredible research being done at Columbia’s Cancer Center. Help me complete my bingo board by donating the amount in one of the open bingo spaces on my board at [INSERT PERSONAL FUNDRAISING LINK].” Download this donation bingo card by clicking here and then post it on your Facebook page with the link to your fundraising page!
