Project Identity General Info • Project Id: SUCRE CSA-SA 318024 • Start Date: October 2012 • Duration: 24 months SUCRE Consortium DD Month YY Name of the Event 2
SUCRE Mission Statement The SUCRE project will • investigate and suggest means for reinforcing the adoption of open source cloud solutions by key stakeholders • facilitate the interaction between academia and industry as well as among industry players • set up an all-embracing still focused supporting mechanism available to all EC funded projects in the areas of Cloud Computing and Open Source DD Month YY Name of the Event 3
Global Objectives • Establish and maintain a highly innovative community consisting of players from both commercial and scientific sectors. • Support the discussion about the use and facilitate the uptake of open-source development model solutions in cloud computing protocols. • Examine how the interweaving of open source and cloud technologies can be further stimulated. • “Equip” users and providers of open cloud services with a comprehensive set of guidelines that will support their daily business. • Initiate/Foster an international dialogue on the “hot” topics of interoperability and data portability involving experts from both Europe and Japan DD Month YY Name of the Event 4
Fostering international collaboration on Open Cloud Computing The SUCRE umbrella • Use cases: Usage of open Clouds in high-impact domains – Public sector – Private sector (healthcare) • Tools and mechanisms for EU-Japan collaboration • Dissemination Media: magazine, videos, portal – Addressing both specific and broader issues/audiences • Young Researchers forum – Establish missing connection between young researchers and Cloud experts – Promote research and innovation in open-source Cloud computing DD Month YY Name of the Event 5
Use case: Open source Clouds for the Public Sector • Issues to be investigated and addressed – Cost models and financial benefits – Public vs. private Clouds – Different requirements by different user groups • Municipal administration • Specialized organizations • Universities • Expected outcome – State-of-the-art report highlighting current solutions – Comparison report among various European public sectors – Primer for the usage of Open Cloud Computing in the public sector – Checklist for successful implementation and use of Open Clouds in the Public Sector DD Month YY Name of the Event 6
Use case: Open source Clouds for the industrial Healthcare Sector • Issues to be investigated and addressed – Data security and trust – System reliability and dependability – Service continuity • Expected outcome – Report on state-of-the-art analysis – Primer describing an ideal use case scenario – Checklist for successful implementation and use of Open Clouds in the Healthcare industry DD Month YY Name of the Event 7
Strengthening EU-Japan Collaboration • Goals – Facilitate the exchange of knowledge on topics of common interest – Produce recommendations on EU-Japan Cloud interoperability and data portability • Activities – EU-Japan experts group on Cloud interoperability – EU-Japan workshop engaging main actors and presenting – Liaison with other projects and contribution to organized events in Japan • Outcome – EU-Japan Recommendation Report DD Month YY Name of the Event 8
Dissemination Media and Community Building • SUCRE portal – One-stop-shop for Open Clouds-related information and news – Vehicle for collaboration and discussion among stakeholders • The International Cloud & Open Source Magazine – Will be published twice a year for a total of four issues – Will disseminate achievements of FP7 projects on Open Clouds beyond Europe – Channel of “success stories” originating from outside Europe (Japan, South-east Asia) • Video products (available also from dedicated SUCRE YouTube channel) – Animated demos on Open Clouds developments & applications addressing a wide spectrum of audiences – Interviews of stakeholders and industry representatives across EU and Japan DD Month YY Name of the Event 9
Young Researchers forum • Rationale – Open Clouds are not fully exposed to and exploited by young researchers – A communication gap exists between junior researchers and cloud experts & stakeholders • Goals – Educate young researchers on the use of Open Clouds – Keep them on the loop with ongoing developments – Encourage active involvement – Help establish and sustain the missing connection • Outcome – Young Researchers forum report – Established links DD Month YY Name of the Event 10
Expected Results of SUCRE • Produce two use cases addressing user and societal needs • Validate results of EU funded efforts in real world settings • Identify the impediments on why open source cloud solutions have not been yet widely adopted • Reinforce the adoption of open source cloud solutions by key stakeholders • Compare best practices among European countries for the adoption of open cloud solutions • Explore opportunities for join work in interoperable clouds and related solutions with Japan • Persuade young people across Europe about the importance and societal impact of Open Source Clouds as well as encourage their professional involvement DD Month YY Name of the Event 11
Tangible Outcomes • State of the Art Analysis • Comparison Analysis Report • A Primer for the Public Sector • A Primer for the Health Care Industry • EU-Japan Recommendation Report • A multifunctional portal • The International Cloud and Open Source Magazine • The SUCRE video products DD Month YY Name of the Event 12
Let’s collaborate! • Follow – SUCRE portal – International Cloud and Open Source Magazine – SUCRE videos • Participate – Community-targeted workshops (public sector, healthcare industry) – EU-Japan workshop – Young Researchers forum – SUCRE community • Have a say – User communities Interviews – Primers for Public Sector & Health Care provisioning Industry – International Cloud and Open Source Magazine – EU-Japan Recommendations Report DD Month YY Name of the Event 13
