Play Week 2019 Event Brief: Between the 5th August and the 9th of August 2019, Dudley Play Service, Children’s services and partners delivered the eleventh ever “Dudley Play Week”. The weeklong event takes place annually to celebrate National Play Day which is celebrated across the country on the first Wednesday in August. This year’s Play Day theme was #PlayBuildsChildren, celebrating play’s impact on childhood experiences and development. The weeklong event saw thousands of families playing and enjoying a varied menu of activities in Dudley parks, thanks to partnership working between statutory, voluntary and private sector organisations. Participants: Dudley Play Week was delivered in partnership with a wide range of statutory, voluntary and private sector organisations (56 in total), maximising sharing of resources and enhancing participant’s choice. There was a 30% increase in partner engagement this year. Those participating included; Dudley Play Service, Family Information Service, Public Health - parks, Dudley Road Safety Team, Public health Teams, Parks Development Team, Met recruitment, HSBC Dudley, Sainsbury’s Amblecote, Healthwatch, The Creation station, Discover Dudley, Dudley Canal Trust, Dudley Tourism, Saltwells Nature Reserve, Waste Care Dudley, Dudley Sports and Leisure Services, Black Country Partnership NHS Trust, NCS Challenge, Dudley Zoo, Black Country Living Museum, Pippa the ten ton bus, Early Help, Dudley Family Centres, Dudley Parenting Team, GTP leisure, Sedgley Kids Club, My Bow Box, Village Hotel, Wickets West midlands, Thomas Jones Funfairs, Event Higher, Black Country Radio, Promarco Media, Anytime Fitness, Beacon Centre for the Blind, PC Karate Academy, Academy Martial Arts, Rick Dubidat Blackbelt Academy, Fire Service, Department for Work & Pensions, Lullababy, Back to Basics Face Painting, Water Babies, The What centre, Stourbridge Green Watch, mum 2 mum market, Just Straight Talk, Puddleducks, Kangaroo Pouch Nursery, Glitterbugs, Mad Hattie, Trotalot, The Treasure Chest, The Sweetie Shop, Nandos and St John’s Ambulance.

3 Attendance: Our eleventh ever Play Week Event was extremely busy with over 3,500 children in attendance (5,750 people attending in total). The weather was good most days, apart from Friday the 9th of August where torrential rain resulted in the event being closed early. A variety of scheduled events took place each day to enhance the free offer to families. This included a Talent show where children could showcase their gifts in front of a captive audience:
4 Feedback: Daily evaluations were completed by 213 participants in total with outstanding feedback received. Participants found the events to be an exciting, cheap, local, family day out, with friendly staff, a wide range of activities on offer for all ages, accompanied by useful information for adults. 5 Event Summary: Play Week 2019 was a huge success with nearly 6,000 people attending (our second busiest play week event). This year’s event saw the highest ever Play Week partnership engagement, with 56 statutory, voluntary and private organisations working together to maximise sharing of resources and enhancing participant’s choice of play activity. A wide and varied menu of play activities was available for children and there was a wealth of information available for adults in attendance. Outstanding feedback was provided. 100% of people questioned thought that the event was great and that the staff were fun and helpful. Participants said that Play Week 2019 was a well organised, unique, exciting, active, cheap, local, family day out, with lots of choice for all ages. Play Week 2020 will take place between Monday the 3rd and Friday the 7th of August 2020, so put the date in your diary now and come along and join in with the fun!
