Pets in t he Par ks Pets in the Parks The Berwyn Park District Board of Commissioners adopted Resolution R-18-02 which amends the Berwyn Park District General Use Ordinances effective May 1, 2018. The amended ordinances now provide for park users to bring domesticated animals and pets into permitted areas of parks operated by the Berwyn Park District. The change in the ordinance was based on several factors including a survey conducted in 2017 in which more than 70% of the respondents favored allowing leashed pets into the park system. Effective May 1, 2018 people may bring domesticated animals and pets into the park system, with said animal on a leash with a maximum extension of 6 feet and the owner or person must be in-control of the leash at all times. There will areas where animals are prohibited including playgrounds, pool, tennis courts, waterways, botanical areas, or sports fields. Animals may not be allowed to run at large (off leash). Violators are subject to a $100.00 fine and four (4) hours of community service at the park district. All current State of Illinois and Cook County animal requirements are also in effect.
