Indoor Youth Sports The Mishawaka Parks Department recreational youth leagues are, first and foremost, intended to provide a positive social experience with an emphasis placed on good sportsmanship, fun, and exercise. Our Battell Center number one goal for our programs is to make sure kids come smiling and leave smiling! Youth Sports Leagues Volleyball This five-week program will be separated into two leagues: 5-6 year olds and 7-8 year olds. Rules will be modified to help kids have a great time learning the basics and fundamentals of volleyball. Registration ends February 25th Practice begins March 10th Ages: 5 to 8 Cost: $40, includes t-shirt Game dates: March 20th – April 10th Location: Battell Community Center Basketball This five-week program will be separated into three leagues: 3-4 year olds, 5-6 year olds and 7-8 year olds. Rules will be modified to help kids have a great time learning the basics and fundamentals of basketball. Registration ends October 5th Practice begins October 20th Ages: 3 to 8 Cost: $40, includes t-shirt Game dates: October 30th – November 20th Location: Battell Community Center | John Young Middle School Youth Winter Skills Clinic Youth winter skills clinics focus on introductory and basic skills for t-ball, basketball and soccer. Each sport will feature clinics focusing on introductory skills in a fun environment. Space is limited, 25 children per age group, per session. Outdoor Sports T-Ball Youth Soccer Provides a positive recreational introductory baseball experience Provides a positive recreational for children ages 3 to 8 years old. Striving to maintain a balance soccer experience for children between teaching progressive baseball skills, sportsmanship and ages 3 to 9 years old. Striving to healthy competition. Games are played on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings; times will vary. Practice day, maintain a balance between time, and location set by the team’s volunteer coach. This program teaching progressive soccer skills, will be separated into three leagues: 3 year olds, 4-5 year olds, and sportsmanship and healthy 6-8 year olds. Teams are formed at random by friend and coaches competition. Games are played on request. Younger siblings may play up an age group, if needed. Late Saturday mornings, times will vary. registration for this league is subject to a $20 late fee. Practice day, time, and location set Registration ends May 10th by the team’s volunteer coach. Recruit your friends, family or co-workers to register for this league. Adult (18+) co-ed teams with a minimum of 4 females on the field at all times. Outdoor Activities 100 Mile Mishawaka Riverwalk Club Do you have what it takes to log 100 on-foot miles on our Riverwalk this summer? Log your miles from May 15th – August 31st. The miles must be logged on the Riverwalk. Once you reach 100 miles, turn in your log sheet to the Parks Department for your FREE 100 Mile Club t-shirt. The shirt is sponsored by Fleet Feet of Mishawaka. Dates: May 15th – August 31st Cost: Free Location: Mishawaka Riverwalk Summer Concert Series Join the Mishawaka Parks Department for our annual Summer Concert Series! We will have Monday Concerts at the Battell Park Bandshell, 7:00-8:00 pm, Wednesday Concerts at the Ball Band Biergarten, 6:30-8:00 pm, and Thursday evening Concerts at Central Park, 6:00-8:00 pm! All concerts are FREE to attend, family-friendly, and feature local artists. If you are interested in performing, please contact the Parks Department! Mishawaka Parks Foundation Mishawaka Parks and Recreation Foundation We are excited to introduce the Mishawaka Parks & Recreation Foundation. If you are up for expanding on the positive momentum in our community, we have two small projects you can be a part of. These projects are a catalyst to the work the Parks Foundation will continue to do in support of the Mishawaka Parks & Recreation Department. The long-term goal of the Parks Foundation is to support the development of neighborhood parks through grants, amenity-specific fundraising campaigns, and individual community support. We will be adding a Hammock Station at Hums Park and a Skate Park in a Cart for special events to the list of unique amenities offered to Mishawaka residents. Special Events Riverwalk Virtual 5K Looking for a challenge? Interested in doing a 5K on your own time? Sign up for our Virtual 5K race! You will have one week to complete the 5K. Upon registration, you will receive the route map and any information you need to race. Submit your times to the Parks Department and earn a medal for your achievement. Best time will win a prize. Times must be submitted by June 30th. Date: July 3rd Cost: Free Time: 3:00 pm Location: Central Park Stuff the Bus Join the Mishawaka Parks Department and Crossroads Community Church to help us Stuff the Bus! This event gives community members a chance to donate school supplies for local Mishawaka students who are in need. You can help us by bringing school supplies to a bus parked in the Battell Community Center parking lot. The supplies collected will be distributed to the School City of Mishawaka to help supplement supplies throughout the year. Color lights, fobble machines, foam parties, neon paint, and a live DJ are all in store for our awesome NEW event. Get your Join Mishawaka Barks and Purrcreation as we celebrate flannel on and come down to a flan-tastic-el event at national dog adoption month at Margaret Prickett Dog the Ball Band Biergarten! We will have a best dressed Park and Marina. We are excited to participate with a “Lumber Jack” and “Lumber Jane” contest, music, a dog adoption event! Come adopt your future fur-ever bonfire, and flannel-inspired activities. Tickets to the pal, get some information on local vet and pet services, event include a commemorative mug. This is an event and help us to contribute to this paw-some cause! you won’t want to miss! Special Events Monster Dash & Dance! Join Mishawaka Parks and Recreation for our first ever Monster Dash and Dance! We are excited for this fun run to celebrate the fall season. Participants will run the length of Ironworks Ave. dressed in their spooky best. At the end of the run, participants will receive a small pumpkin to decorate and a cup of hot chocolate. Children must be pre-registered to participate in the event. After the run, we will have music playing over our sound system and an open grass space for the kids to space out and dance out to some monster boggie tunes. Food will be available for purchase as well. Date: October 8th Ages: 3 to 9 Cost: $5 Time: 6:00-8:00 pm Location: Ball Band Biergarten Halloween Spooktacular Table-or- Treat (Trunk-or-Treat) Come trick-or-treat with us and local businesses along the Mishawaka Riverwalk. There will be music, inflatables, pumpkins and of course candy, lots and lots of candy. Special Events Winterfest Holiday Fun Night Join us to celebrate the holiday season for our annual Battell Community Center is hosting its fifth annual Winterfest celebration at Merrifield Park! The event holiday fun night! Toys for Tots and a visit from Saint features free ice skating, hot cocoa, visits with Santa, a Nick will kick off the event where you can donate a new bonfire, horse-drawn carriage rides and more! unwrapped toy and get a picture with Santa. For over 85 years, Eberhart-Petro Municipal Golf Course has served the City of Mishawaka and surrounding areas with a fantastic golf course. First opened in 1929 with the first nine holes on the south side of the St. Joseph River then expanding to 18 holes in 1949, which includes four river crossings. This may be the most well-manicured municipal golf course you will ever play, and probably the toughest 6,000 yard, par-70 golf course in the Midwest. George Wilson Park Named for a Mishawaka High School athletic coach in the 1950s-1960s, the park features 54.3 acres of rolling hills, lush tall trees, a playground and scenic views of Mishawaka and South Bend. In 1990, a disc golf course was installed, which hosted the 1996 PDGA Disc Golf World Championships and continues to host several disc golf tournaments throughout the year. The park also hosts excellent snow tubing hills for the winter months, its signature 55’ teepee-like windbreak structure overlooks the park, while providing shelter from the bitter cold winter weather.
