STRATHAIRD PRIMARY SCHOOL ph: 03 9705 3800 email: strathaird.ps@education.vic.gov.au website: www.strathairdps.vic.edu.au Success Pride Self-esteem Parent Newsletter Edition 18 25th November 2020 $10 million for Strathaird Primary School Yesterday afternoon we received the news from our local MP, Gary Maas, that Strathaird Primary School will receive $10 million from the Andrews Labor Government through the 20/21 budget. To say that we are excited is a huge understatement. Gary works very hard for the whole Narre Warren South Community and is very supportive of our school. Last year we developed a School Sustainability Masterplan which aligns with our strong commitment to empower students to become engaged, responsible citizens who look after our environment and all of its precious resources. The Masterplan brings together all the sustainability initiatives that have been completed over a long period of time, as well as the new ones that will be completed over the next couple of years. The Masterplan includes a state of the art Eco-Cabin which will be a multipurpose facility. It will feature advanced technology innovations which will lead to lower energy use and lower waste production and will enhance the learning of our students in understanding technology innovations. The Eco-Cabin will include learning spaces as well as a kitchen and can be used by the Parents and Friends group, for parent program sessions and for whole school events. There will be a new toilet block built to replace the Year 5/6 toilets. The funding will also enable us to complete other important work around the school. We are currently working on completely redoing the oval in 2021 so it is levelled, has proper drainage and irrigation. It promises to be a big and exciting year at Strathaird. We are very grateful to Gary Maas and the State Government and thank them very much for this funding which will make a big difference to our school and benefit the whole school community. We are so excited and can’t wait to get started. :) Transition program This week we have been welcoming small groups of our new 2021 Preps. It has been wonderful to see their smiling faces and their excitement about coming to school. They have been delightful for the Prep teachers and have enjoyed participating in the activities. We are very much looking forward to welcoming them to school next year. Booklists for 2021 Booklists for 2021 have been sent home. We are ordering from the same company as last year and we would prefer parents purchase from this company if possible so that students have the same items. Recently the Green Team completed a litter audit of the school. They found a huge amount of plastic zip lock bags in our school grounds as well as a lot of cling wrap. These single use plastics break up into microplastics and can kill hundreds of animals. Renee Van Styn Sustainable and reusable wraps have a short term outlay but long term savings.
