Welcome to the 20212022 Season of the Arts! Dear Kinkaid Family, Last year was a tough one. However, through the ingenuity and creativity of our students and faculty, we were able to use the 2020-2021 academic year to discover new ways to grow as artists. And now, as we tentatively wade into the waters of a post- pandemic world, we are thrilled at the prospect of bringing the magic that is live performance and gallery-going back to our entire community. It is that growth and magic we hope to harness this year and that served as inspiration in choosing this year’s titles. This year’s season focuses on young people (all of our principal characters are under the age of 18) and the trials and tribulations they face as they brave the magical experience of transforming from child to adolescent and from adolescent to adult. While faced with seemingly insurmountable obstacles, many of the characters we will meet this year discover their limitless potential. And through their journeys, we, as audience members, are cautioned that we often serve as the obstacles for others’ growth: judging, assuming, and dismissing can limit both the growth of those around us and ourselves. Just as a plant needs water to bloom, we need the appreciation and kindness of others to grow. I believe that the magic of good art is that it fuels our growth. In challenging us to see the world a little differently, art inspires us to grow into more empathetic and compassionate citizens of the world. Come grow with us in 2021-2022. We’ve all got magic to do. Applause, Scott Lambert Director of Visual and Performing Arts

The 8th Grade presents ROALD DAHL’S MATILDA THE MUSICAL, JR. G Book by Dennis Kelly / Music and Lyrics by Tim Minchin Orchestrations and Additional Music by Chris Nightingale Based on the book Matilda by Roald Dahl January 2123, 2022 The Brown Auditorium Matilda is a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence, and psycho- kinetic powers. She’s unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey. Matilda’s school life isn’t completely smooth sailing, however – the school’s mean head- mistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don’t abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts and could be the school pupils’ saving grace! Inspired by the twisted genius of Roald Dahl and winner of 4 Tony® Awards, Matilda the Musical JR. revels in the anarchy of childhood and the power of imagination. Middle School Theatre presents KIM ARTHUR AND THE NERDS OF THE ROUND TABLE G By Daniel Guyton February 1112, 2022 The Edwards Black Box Theatre When the mysterious “Motherboard in the Stone” appears at Kim Arthur’s favorite arcade emporium, she and her magical friend Marlene decide to check it out. Soon Kim realizes that only she has the power to remove the Motherboard from the Stone, thus becoming queen of Game-A-Lot. But uneasy is the head that wears the crown, and it’s up to Kim to save the arcade from closing — by creating the greatest video game of all time. She knows she can’t do it alone; she’ll need the help of all of her fellow nerds. And so begins the legend of Kim Arthur and the Nerds of the Round Table. Based on Stephen King’s best-selling novel, CARRIE the Musical hasn’t been seen much since its legendary 1988 Broadway production. Now, the show’s original authors have reworked and fully re-imagined this gripping tale into an Off-Broadway award winning musical. Set today, in the small town of Chamberlain, Maine, Carrie White is a misfit. At school, she’s an outcast who’s bullied by the popular crowd yet virtually invisible to everyone else. At home, she’s at the mercy of her loving yet cruelly over-protective mother. But Carrie’s just discovered she’s got a special power. And if pushed too far, she’s not afraid to use it…
