St Francis Xavier Catholic School To Love, To Learn and To Serve Kia Aroha, Kia Akona, Kia Aro Atu No. 8 Rāpare-Thursday 30th July-Hōngoingoi 2020 Dear%Parents,%Caregivers%and%Friends%of%our%school, The%year%2020%is%shaping%up%to%be%quite%a%year!%We%began%with%a%drought,%conAnue%to%baBle%a%pandemic%and%recently%we% have%had%a%flood.% We%all%know%the%story%of%Noah%and%the%Ark.%A%great%flood%came%but%Noah,%his%family%and%all%the%animals%were%kept%safe%and% dry.%The%story%of%Noah%is%a%story%of%hope.%When%the%rain%stopped,%Noah%sent%the%dove%out%and%sure%enough,%dry%land%was% found.%We%sent%our%doves%out%and%they%got%very%wet.%If%there%was%an%upside%to%all%of%the%rain%last%week%then%let%us%hope% that%the%dam%is%full.% In%some%respects%our%school%is%an%Ark.%The%children%have%walked%in%two%by%two%and%it%is%our%job%to%guide%them%to%a%place% where%they%can%be%safe%and%prosper%in%their%lives.%It%is%a%privilege%that%we%don’t%take%lightly. Over%recent%weeks%we%have%had%so%many%visitors%comment%on%the%posiAve%tone%and%feeling%of%calm%in%our%school.%Even% Bishop%Gielen%told%the%staff%that%our%school%has%a%lovely%feeling%about%it.%This%is%testament%to%the%great%team%of%teachers,% whanau%and%friends%of%our%school.%%We%will%always%have%our%challenges%but%the%posiAves%always%outweigh%the%negaAves.% That’s%the%great%thing%about%the%ChrisAan%message%and%being%people%of%hope. On%another%note,%I%know%that%some%of%you%are%experiencing%some%challenging%Ames%at%present;%loss%of%income,%damage%to% homes%and%loss%and%hardship%due%to%personal%circumstances.%As%a%school%community,%this%is%the%Ame%when%we%need%to% reach%out%to%our%whanau%and%say,%“We%are%here%for%you%if%you%need%support%and%assistance.”% With%this%in%mind%I%am%suggesAng%that%we%offer%two%new%and%two%exisAng%services%to%parents%who%may%need%some% addiAonal%support.% 1. SCHOOL%DEVELOPMENTS:% 1.%Your%children%have%probably%told%you%that%we%had%the%EssenAal%Workers%here%for%the%launch%of%our%school%wide%concept% for%the%term.%The%concept%is%“Heroes”%and%this%term%we%are%focussing%on%those%people%that%we%rely%on%to%keep%us%safe.%It% was%a%great%morning%of%sirens%and%smiles.% In%the%abernoon%Mr%Eric%Rush,%ex%All%Black%and%current%owner%of%the%Regent%New%World%supermarket,%spoke%to%us%about%his% boyhood%and%perseverance%to%become%an%All%Black. 2.%This%term%we%have%two%beehives%being%delivered%and%situated%on%the%other%side%of%the%creek%in%our%gated%bush%area.%Each% fortnight%a%group%of%Year%3%enviro%students%and%Mrs%Cash%will%work%with%the%apiarists%from%Tahi%honey.% 3.%As%of%last%Friday,%we%have%500%students%enrolled%at%our%school.%We%anAcipate%an%end%of%year%roll%of%523%students.%Please% call%at%the%office%or%phone%us%if%you%have%yet%to%enroll%your%child. BISHOP%MICHAEL%GIELEN:%On%Monday,%Bishop%Michael,%Auxillary%Bishop%of% Auckland,%came%to%school%to%meet%the%children%and%talk%about%his%role%as%a% Bishop.%I%got%up%early,%put%on%my%suit%and%Ae%as%you%would%to%meet%the%new% Bishop,%and%he%fronted%up%in%his%Blues%rugby%jersey.%That%set%the%scene%for%a% great%visit%with%Bishop%Michael.%He%is%a%humble,%warm%hearted%person%who% related%parAcularly%well%to%our%students%and%staff.%%We%wish%him%every% blessing%and%success%in%his%new%posiAon. Family Mass It is wonderful to see many families supporting the whanau Masses. Even if your children does not belong to the whanau that is helping with the Mass please come along and support our whanau. We are all part of one family. As%we%know,%not%all%heroes%wear%capes%or%have%superpowers. We%know%that%heroes%can%be%emergency%workers,%essential% workers%and%everyday%heroes.%%Heroes%can%be%ordinary% people%who%do%extraordinary%things. Last%Friday%morning,%we%had%members%of%emergency% services%display%their%vehicles%and%equipment.%%They%also% *SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY answered%questions%and%sounded%the%sirens!%A%huge%success. In%the%afternoon%we%had%a%sporting%legend,%Mr%Eric%Rush,%talk% to%the%children%about%his%life%and%experiences%as%an%All%Black% and%NZ%Rugby%Sevens%player. He%spoke%of%setting%goals% otherwise%you%are%like%a%plane%without%a%pilot%on%a%trip%to% nowhere.%He%said%you%need%to%have%perseverance%and%keep% trying,%we%don't%all%achieve%what%we%want%to%the%Mirst%time.% To%be%successful%you%surround%yourself%with%successful% people,%and%that%no%team%is%undefeatable.%The%All%Black% mantra%is%to%be%humble%before%you%are%humbled.
