TMSS Tornados Newsletter September 2021 Principal's Message Welcome back to school! Welcome to familiar TMSS families that were with us last school year, welcome to new students who have recently transferred to TMSS and welcome to a few students who took a pause from face-to-face learning last year to do remote learning. It is good to see everyone in person. There are certainly a lot of us in the building as our initial enrollment is about sixty students more than last year! We also have four new staff members. Ms. Andrea Lutz is our new administrative assistant in the office. Ms. Jen Hidelbaugh is an educational assistant who has rejoined us from Arborfield School. Ms. Steffen joined us last June as a high school teacher and will continue to be teaching some ELA 10 and 20-level classes this fall. And, Ms. Scharfenberg has joined us in the middle years as she transferred from TES. It is great to have all four women on our TMSS staff. We are optimistic with the Safe School plan that the North East School Division has implemented with all schools in the division. At this point in time, TMSS is at level one which means no restrictions and “business as usual”. That said, masks are strongly recommended, and we are a mask-friendly facility reminding students that we appreciate everyone wearing masks and we do not tolerate negative comments about the choices families are making. If we learned anything from the past school year, then we recognize that each family has their own comfort level with Covid-19 protocols. It is still very important that students stay home if they are ill. The Daily Screening Questionnaire includes symptoms such as: fever, cough, headache and muscle fatigue. We also encourage families to call in absences to the office to keep us in-the-loop as to why your child isn’t able to attend school. Teachers will appreciate the updates, too, in the form of an email, lastname.firstname@nesd.ca. Tornado athletics have already begun in at TMSS. Football, volleyball, golf and cross-country coaches have already been reaching out to students. In fact, the football team has their first game under the lights on Friday, September 10th with a 7 pm kickoff. If you’re interested in how to get involved with teams and clubs here at TMSS, then click on the Daily News tab of our website at https://www.nesd.ca/School/tmss/Pages/default.aspx#/= and read the announcements that teachers post each day. It's going to be a great school year! Carmen Messer 1|Page

I live in Melfort, SK, with my fiance Trevor and our five children Lukas, Danelle, Jaxon, Rohan, and Harper. Our family loves to spend time together, especially at the lake. We all play sports, and we’re competitive at everything, which makes for exciting game nights! If you see me at the school, football field, dance centre, or at the rink, please feel free to come and say hello. Hello everyone, my name is Miss Scharfenberg and I am very excited to be joining the TMSS team. I have spent the previous year at Tisdale Elementary School teaching grade 4 and prior to that was a middle years teacher in Gronlid and Nipawin. I am really looking forward to getting back into a middle years role and teaching grade 6 Math and Social Studies, grade 7 ELA and Social Studies, and grade 9 Social Studies. I will also be coaching a few different athletic teams throughout the school year. I am looking forward to getting to know my students and all of the learning opportunities we will share this year! Hello, I am Jenifer Hidlebaugh and I am super excited to be working at TMSS. I have 2 boys, one graduated and one in grade 6. I am in my 14th year as an EA and am looking forward to getting to know everyone. I was an EA at Arborfield School for 12 years and I did my very first year at TMSS. Some of my hobbies are crocheting, diamond dot art, going to the lake, swimming and being outdoors. I also enjoy painting. Summer is my favorite season. Have a great year everyone! 2|Page
TMSS Tornados Newsletter September 2021 Farewell We would like to thank Kristina Pipunic for her time as an EA at TMSS during the 2020-21 school year. We appreciate her hard work and dedication to the students and wish her all the best in whatever her future holds. Cross Country Running The cross-country running team will begin practices after school on Tuesday, September 7th. Usually, practices run until 4:00-4:15. We are just beginning to get information about the NESD league. We have a league for gr 7-12 students and possibly, a league for gr 5/6 students. TMSS will host the first meet for the gr 7-12 league on Thursday, September 16th at the Tisdale Kinsmen Park with more details to follow. I am encouraging any student who is busy with other team sports to still come out and compete, even in the practice times conflict with their other sports. They just need to come speak to me and we can plan alternate arrangements. Coach Messer messer.carmen@nesd.ca 3|Page
