David Rubin & Partners specialises in corporate and personal recovery, insolvency, forensic accounting and litigation support. Our experience covers all industry sectors and all sizes of business. We are experienced in every aspect of turnaround and the rescue of underperforming businesses. Where a rescue is not possible, a full range of insolvency procedures will always be considered. The firm’s team is led by seven partners, each of whom follows a ‘hands on’ policy and brings his own particular skills to every assignment. 1
David Rubin SENIOR PARTNER “Through our many years of experience we understand the traumas faced David founded the practice of David Rubin & Partners in 1984 to focus on business recovery and forensic litigation support. David regularly writes and lectures on turnaround issues and is heavily involved in training within the profession. He is a council member of INSOL Europe and a former council member of the Association of Business Recovery Professionals (R3). He has chaired the R3 Education, Courses and Conferences Committee as well as the Smaller Practice Issues Committee for both R3 and INSOL International. David’s primary role is to ensure the quality of service at the practice, ensuring that all members of his team demonstrate a high level of professionalism and technical expertise and that all legal and other regulations are complied with. He enjoys the challenge of business rescue and his work often involves litigation and alternative dispute resolution. In his spare time, David’s hobbies include tennis, skiing, restoring classic cars and playing the piano. 2
Paul Appleton MANAGING PARTNER Paul is the driving force behind David Rubin & “Our advice is clear, impartial and ” Partners’ Holborn office, which was established in unambiguous, and is designed to protect 2002. Since his qualification as a chartered accountant in 1991, Paul has overseen the turnaround of many troubled companies. His experience in the recovery industry has been guided by a commitment to the three ‘R’s of R3: rescue, recovery and renewal. Paul became a partner of the practice in 1995 and has been managing partner since 2002. He is actively involved in education and training within the profession and has lectured regularly on many R3 courses and conferences. Paul has a keen interest in both the music and film industries and has first-hand experience of life’s ups and downs, having supported Arsenal Football Club as a season ticket holder since the age of four! 3

He currently sits on the London Region Committee, having previously sat on R3’s Education Courses and Conferences Committee. He joined David Rubin & Partners as a partner in January 2003, having previously specialised in corporate recovery and insolvency at PricewaterhouseCoopers for ten years. He has a degree in accounting and finance and is both a chartered accountant and a licensed insolvency practitioner. Asher is married and enjoys spending his leisure time with his family. He also enjoys running, skiing, playing football and, like Paul Appleton, is a keen supporter of Arsenal Football Club. 4
Henry Lan PARTNER Henry is a Chartered Accountant and has held an Insolvency Practitioners licence since 1990. Henry’s expertise in taxation and forensic accounting brings depth and strength to the services offered by David Rubin & Partners. His accountancy and tax experience dates back to 1975 when he managed a substantial portfolio of personal and corporate tax clients at a long-established London firm of Chartered Accountants. Henry also spent a few years as head of finances of a major food distribution company. In 1985 Henry helped to develop David Rubin & Partners, where he took responsibility for the tax and audit departments. He also took an interest in the firm’s insolvency and rescue department while taking charge of the taxation side of insolvency. His wide experience has proved invaluable to David Rubin & Partners’ work, particularly in forensic and litigation support. Henry is interested in information technology, travel and sport. 7
Rod Reeken “We PARTNER ” never forget that we are dealing with Rod works closely with Paul Appleton in the Holborn real people in real situations office. Originally from New Zealand, he has lived in the UK for over 25 years and has been a partner of the practice since 2003. Rod has always been interested in the human aspect of accountancy. In New Zealand, his work as an Inland Revenue inspector took him out on the road and provided first-hand experience of the many factors that affect business performance. When his career moved to the UK he again worked directly with business owners in his position as auditor for a UK accounting firm. Since joining David Rubin and Partners in 1996, Rod has specialised in both corporate and personal insolvency, working closely with the management of insolvent companies to effect turnarounds where possible. Rod has two daughters and when he has spare time he enjoys reading, politics, industrial architecture and exploration of the British countryside. 8

Stephen Katz PARTNER Stephen Katz is the most recent member of the team at David Rubin & Partners and is based “We are proud to achieve excellence in the service we provide for each individual case, at the Holborn office. ” whether we are dealing with a major multinational or a small business Having qualified as a chartered accountant with HW Fisher & Company in 1988, Stephen spent three years in audit before heading up the firm’s business development and investigation team, specialising in business acquisitions, due diligence and pre- lending reviews. In the early 1990s, Stephen assisted in setting up a dedicated insolvency team at HW Fisher & Company. He qualified as a licensed insolvency practitioner in April 1995 and subsequently became Head of Insolvency. Stephen has considerable experience across a wide range of industry sectors and has acted in a number of cross border insolvency cases, resulting in him undertaking work in Europe, Sub-Sahara Africa, USA and the Bahamas. Stephen is married with two children and has four dogs, but he still manages to find time to practise two styles of karate at black belt level. 11

He is a commercially minded business restructuring professional, who brings a unique background of chartered accountancy, investment banking and Com- pany debt and equity funding to his restructuring assignments, in order to reach the optimal outcome for all stakeholders. Paul is married with three children and has a lifelong passion for playing Texas Hold’em poker. 12

Chris attributes much of his organisational ability to his military training. He spent twenty-five years with the Coldstream Guards, where he received not only the long service and good conduct medal, but also, in the New Years Honours list of 1990, the British Empire Medal. His ability to remain calm and manage people working under pressure remains second to none. In his spare time, Chris is interested in theatre and historical literature. He has a real passion for live music and enjoys maintaining a high level of fitness by regular attendance at the local gym and pool. 13

Trudi Clark DIRECTOR - CHANNEL ISLANDS Trudi is the Chief Executive of the Channel Islands firm. In her 21 years in Guernsey she has enjoyed a “Byadvisors working together we can help successful career in both accountancy and banking. to add value for their clients ” Ten years of this were spent with Schroders on the island, holding the position of CEO between 2003 and 2005. Her appointment provides David Rubin & Partners with the offshore expertise to handle complex liquidations for funds and corporate structures. In her spare time Trudi enjoys walking the cliffs of Guernsey and enjoying island life. 16
