A Holiday Prayer Loving Lord, as the time for our holiday gets closer, we pray that You will be with us, as we make all the plans and preparations for this much needed time of rest and refreshment. Help us not to miss any important things as we get ready. We pray that there will not be any last-minute problems to hinder or prevent our restful holiday time. Keep us and all our friends safe and warm during this break. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity to recharge our mental, spiritual and physical ‘batteries’, so that we may be able to spend time away from our hard work at school and of the every-day life, and return rejuvenated and ready to continue our daily tasks. Amen. MUFTI MANIA Just a reminder that tomorrow, 5th of July, we have Mufti Mania. Children may wear mufti and please bring in a gold coin donation - the money goes to Caritas towards Bougainville and Doputz Primary School which are in Papua New Guinea. From the Board: We have recently completed our triennial election for our Board of Trustees. Thanks to those people who have put their hand up to help and also those who have nominated or supported those standing. The Board members have already been announced. Now I will introduce the team: I'm John Assen, a dairy farmer at Taupiri, where I live with my wife and four children, with the oldest two attending school at St Paul's. We belong to the St Paul's Catholic Parish and are happy that our children are getting a quality education at a school centred around Catholic values and teaching. I've been on the Board for a couple of years now and I'm privileged to take on the position of Board chairperson. Kia ora koutou, I’m Shaun Emms, principal of our school. I was born and raised in Gisborne, but have spent much of my professional life teaching in the Waikato, with a number of these years at St Paul’s. My wife Linda and I live in Hamilton and we have two children at this school, Benson in Room 3 and Ella in Room 4. My name is Lisa Ashton. I am the staff representative on The BOT. I teach in Room 6 which is the Year 7 and 8 students. I travel to Ngaruawahia daily as I live in Hamilton with my husband Larry and two children. I’m Matt Reynolds, dad of Oliver in Y8 and Thomas in Y5, and husband of Carolyn. Away from home and school, I’m the Hamilton Branch Manager and Sales Manager of Thomsons ITM. I want to ensure that St Paul’s is a safe, bully free zone, is fully inclusive of students with special needs, that the staff have access to professional development to enhance their teaching and, of course, ensure that we are community focused. Robert McGowan, born and bred on the family farm just north of Rotorua. My wife and I moved our business and family here 3.5 years ago and absolutely love it. We have 1 daughter at the St Paul’s and 1 at Sacred Heart. I joined the board to help out where needed and to try and help the kids get the most out of their time at St Paul’s. Hi, I’m Chris Cummings. My wife Fiona and I live locally and our 3 kids attend St Paul’s Catholic School. I work as a lawyer at Raleigh Law based in Ngaruawahia and I’m on the Board as a proprietor’s rep.
Hi everyone, my name is Amy de Boer. I grew up in and around Ngaruawahia and Horotiu. I have one daughter at St Paul's and joined the Board to make sure my daughter and all other children get the most they can out of their education. My name is Natalie Harnett. Originally from Taumarunui, my husband Andrew and I have made our home in Horsham Downs. Together we have five children, 4 of which are here at St Paul’s Catholic Primary School. Between juggling mum life and work for our family business, I look forward to getting to know the wider St. Paul’s community and being able to offer my support to the BOT. Kia Orana, Latisha Utikere is thy name. I've recently been made a Proprietor's Rep (I best put on my 'Good Behaviour Cap') for the St Paul's Catholic School BOT. I'm from the realm called Nikaupara, Aitutaki, Cook Islands. Raised by a multi-cultural village with influence gleaned from Japanese, Maori, the Sisters of Mercy and the Cook Islands. I was named Fruit Salad growing up. I have too many children to count on two hands, three whom attend St Paul's Catholic School. I joined the BOT to help make a positive difference within the school community, to share wisdom, encourage the children to celebrate our cultural diversity; and support our Principal and his crew with their vision for the future of our school and the direction it will take moving forward. Ako mãrie I ngã põtiki I teia rã, kia upoko tu rãtou ãpõpõ (Nurture young minds today, so they may become leaders tomorrow). Hi! My name is Amanda McLaughlin. My husband Chris and I have three children in the junior school here at St Paul's and a 2 and a half year old. I have a legal and banking background and am currently a stay at home mum to our four children. I am an ex pupil of St Paul's and have been on the board for two years. I am thrilled to support the BOT as Board secretary and to help support the school. I am excited to work with such a great Board and I can’t wait to get to know them better and see what we can achieve for the children of our school. Have a great break and we’ll see you all next term. God Bless, John Assen - BoT Chairman
